Proverbs 26
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not seemly for a fool.
Como la nieve en el verano, y la lluvia en la segada, así conviene al insensato la honra.
2 As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, so the curse that is causeless does not alight.
Como el gorrión andar vagabundo, y como la golondrina volar, así la maldición sin causa nunca vendrá.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools.
El azote para el caballo, y el cabestro para el asno, y la vara para el cuerpo del insensato.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like to him.
Nunca respondas al insensato conforme a su fatuidad, porque no seas como él también tú.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
Responde al insensato conforme a su fatuidad, porque no se estime sabio en su opinión.
6 He who sends a message by the hand of a fool cuts off the feet, and drinks injury.
El que corta los pies, beberá el daño; y el que envía algo por la mano del insensato.
7 The legs of a lame man hang loose. So is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
Alzád las piernas del cojo: así es el proverbio en la boca del insensato.
8 As he who binds a stone in a sling, so is he who gives honor to a fool.
Como quien liga la piedra en la honda, así es el que da honra al insensato.
9 As a thorn that goes up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.
Espinas hincadas en mano de embriagado: tal es el proverbio en la boca de los insensatos.
10 As an archer who wounds all, so is he who hires a fool, and he who hires those who pass by.
El Grande cria todas las cosas; y al insensato da la paga, y a los transgresores da el salario.
11 As a dog who returns to his vomit, is a fool who repeats his folly.
Como perro que vuelve a su vómito: así el insensato que segunda su fatuidad.
12 See thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope for a fool than of him.
¿Has visto hombre sabio en su opinión? más esperanza hay del insensato que de él.
13 The sluggard says, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
Dice el perezoso: El león está en el camino: el león está en las calles.
14 The door turns upon its hinges, so does the sluggard upon his bed.
Las puertas se revuelven en su quicio, y el perezoso en su cama.
15 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. It wearies him to bring it again to his mouth.
Esconde el perezoso su mano en el seno: cánsase de tornarla a su boca.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men who can render a reason.
Más sabio es el perezoso en su opinión, que siete que le den consejo.
17 He who passes by, and meddles with strife not his, is like he who takes a dog by the ears.
El que pasando se enoja en el pleito ajeno, es como el que toma al perro por las orejas.
18 As a madman who casts firebrands, arrows, and death,
Como el que enloquece, y echa llamas, y saetas, y muerte,
19 so is the man who deceives his neighbor, and says, Am I not in sport?
Tal es el hombre que daña a su amigo, y dice: Cierto, burlaba.
20 For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, contention ceases.
Sin leña, el fuego se apagará; y donde no hubiere chismoso, cesará la contienda.
21 As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to inflame strife.
El carbón para brasas; y la leña para el fuego; y el hombre rencilloso para encender contienda.
22 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts.
Las palabras del chismoso parecen blandas: mas ellas entran hasta lo secreto del vientre.
23 Fervent lips and a wicked heart are an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
Plata de escorias echada sobre tiesto son los labios encendidos, y el corazón malo.
24 He who hates masquerades with his lips, but he lays up deceit within him.
Otro parece en los labios el que aborrece: mas en su interior pone engaño:
25 When he speaks graciously, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart.
Cuando hablare amigablemente, no le creas; porque siete abominaciones están en su corazón.
26 Though his hatred cover itself with guile, his wickedness shall be openly shown before the assembly.
Encúbrese el odio en el desierto: mas su malicia será descubierta en la congregación.
27 He who digs a pit shall fall in it, and he who rolls a stone, it shall return upon him.
El que cavare sima, en ella caerá; y el que revuelve la piedra, a él volverá.
28 A lying tongue hates those whom it has wounded, and a flattering mouth works ruin.
La falsa lengua al que atormenta aborrece; y la boca lisonjera hace resbaladero.
