Proverbs 25
1 These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
Desse äro ock Salomos Ordspråk, hvilka här tillsatt hafva Hiskia män, Juda Konungs.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
Det är Guds ära ena sak fördölja; men Konungars ära är ena sak utransaka.
3 As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, so the heart of kings is unsearchable.
Himmelen är hög, och jorden djup; men Konungars hjerta är oransakeligit.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there comes forth a vessel for the refiner.
Man kastar bort slagget ifrå silfret, så varder der ett rent käril utaf.
5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Man kastar ett ogudaktigt väsende bort ifrå Konungenom, så varder hans säte med rättfärdighet befäst.
6 Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men.
Pråla icke för Konungenom, och träd icke fram der de store stå.
7 For it is better that it be said to thee, Come up here, than that thou should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom thine eyes have seen.
Ty det är dig bättre, när man till dig säger: Gack hitupp; än att du skulle för Förstanom förnedrad varda, det din ögon se måste.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive. What will thou do in the end of it when thy neighbor has put thee to shame?
Var icke hastig till att träta: ty hvad vill du sedan göra, när din nästa dig skämt hafver?
9 Debate thy case with thy neighbor himself, and disclose not the secret of another,
Handla dina sak med din nästa, och uppenbara icke ens annars hemlighet;
10 lest he who hears it revile thee, and thine infamy turn not away.
På det att den det hörer icke skall tala dig illa till, och ditt onda rykte icke återvänder.
11 A word fitly spoken is apples of gold in a network of silver.
Ett ord i sinom tid taladt är såsom ett gyldene äple uti silfskålom.
12 An earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
Den som en visan straffar, och han lyder honom, det är såsom en gyldene örnaring, och ett gyldene halsband.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, is a faithful messenger to those who send him, for he refreshes the soul of his masters.
Lika som snököld i andstiden, så är ett troget bådskap honom, som det sändt hafver, och vederqvicker sins herras själ.
14 Clouds and wind without rain, is he who boasts himself of his gifts falsely.
Den der mycket talar, och håller intet, är såsom ett moln och väder utan regn.
15 By long-suffering a ruler is persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone.
Genom tålamod varder en Förste blidkad, och en len tunga stillar hårdhetena.
16 Have thou found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.
Finner du hannog, så ät så mycket som behöfves af honom, att du icke för mätt varder, och spyr det ut.
17 Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbor's house, lest he be weary of thee, and hate thee.
Drag din fot tillbaka ifrå dins nästas hus; han måste ledas vid dig, och varda dig vred.
18 A man who bears false witness against his neighbor is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
Den som emot sin nästa falskt vittnesbörd talar, han är ett spjut, svärd och skarp pil.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Föraktarens hopp i nödenes tid är såsom en rutten tand, och en oviss fot.
20 As he who takes off a garment in cold weather, and vinegar upon soda, so is he who sings songs to a heavy heart.
Den för ett bedröfvadt hjerta visor qväder, det är såsom en sönderrifven klädnad om vintren, och ättika på krito.
21 If thine enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
Hungrar din ovän, så spisa honom med bröd; törstar han, så gif honom vatten dricka;
22 For thou will heap coals of fire upon his head, and Jehovah will reward thee.
Ty du samkar kol tillhopa uppå hans hufvud, och Herren vedergäller dig det.
23 The north wind brings forth rain. So does a backbiting tongue, an angry countenance.
Nordanväder gör storm, och en hemlig tunga gör ett oblidt ansigte.
24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.
Det är bättre att sitta uti en vrå på taket, än när en trätosamma qvinno i ett stort nus.
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
Ett godt rykte utaf fjerran land är lika som kallt vatten ene törstigo själ.
26 A troubled fountain, and a corrupted spring, is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.
En rättfärdig, som för enom ogudaktigom faller, är såsom en rörd brunn och en förderfvad källa.
27 It is not good to eat much honey, so for men to search out their own glory is grievous.
Den som för mycken hannog äter, det är icke godt; och den svår ting utransakar, det varder honom för svårt.
28 He whose spirit is without restraint is a city that is broken down and without walls.
En man, som sin anda icke hålla kan, han är såsom en öppen stad utan murar.
