Proverbs 24
1 Be not thou envious against evil men, nor desire to be with them.
No tengas envidia de los hombres malos: ni desees estar con ellos.
2 For their heart meditates oppression, and their lips talk of mischief.
Porque su corazón piensa en robar; e iniquidad hablan sus labios.
3 Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established,
Con sabiduría se edificará la casa; y con prudencia se afirmará.
4 and by knowledge the chambers are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Y con ciencia las cámaras se henchirán de todas riquezas preciosas y hermosas.
5 A wise man is strong, yea, a man of knowledge increases might.
El hombre sabio es fuerte; y el hombre entendido es valiente de fuerza.
6 For by wise guidance thou shall make thy war, and in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
Porque con industrias harás la guerra; y la salud está en la multitud de los consejeros.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool. He opens not his mouth in the gate.
Alta está para el insensato la sabiduría: en la puerta no abrirá su boca.
8 He who devises to do evil, men shall call him a mischief-maker.
Al que piensa mal hacer, al tal, hombre de malos pensamientos le llamarán.
9 The thought of folly is sin. And the scoffer is an abomination to men.
El mal pensamiento del insensato es pecado; y abominación a los hombres el burlador.
10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
Si fueres flojo en el día de trabajo, tu fuerza será angosta.
11 Deliver those who are carried away to death, and hold thou back those who are ready to be slain.
¿Detenerte has de escapar los que son tomados para la muerte, y los que son llevados al degolladero?
12 If thou say, Behold, we did not know this, Does not he who weighs the hearts consider it? And he who keeps thy soul, does he not know it? And shall not he render to every man according to his work?
Si dijeres: Ciertamente no lo supimos: ¿el que pesa los corazones no lo entenderá? El que mira por tu alma él lo conocerá, el cual dará al hombre según sus obras.
13 My son, eat thou honey, for it is good, and the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to thy taste,
Come, hijo mío, de la miel, porque es buena; y del panal dulce a tu paladar:
14 so the knowledge of wisdom is to thy soul. If thou have found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy hope shall not be cut off.
Tal será el conocimiento de la sabiduría a tu alma, si la hallares; y al fin tu esperanza no será cortada.
15 Lay not in wait, O wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Do not destroy his resting place.
O! impío, no aseches a la tienda del justo: no saquees su acostadero:
16 For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again, but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.
Porque siete veces cae el justo, y se torna a levantar: mas los impíos caerán en el mal.
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falls, and let not thy heart be glad when he is overthrown,
Cuando cayere tu enemigo, no te huelgues; y cuando tropezare, no se alegre tu corazón:
18 lest Jehovah see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
Porque Jehová no lo mire, y le desagrade; y aparte de sobre él su enojo.
19 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, nor be thou envious at the wicked.
No te entremetas con los malignos, ni tengas envidia de los impíos:
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man. The lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Porque para el malo no habrá buen fin; y la candela de los impíos será apagada.
21 My son, fear thou Jehovah and the king, and do not associate with those who are given to change.
Teme a Jehová, hijo mío, y al rey: no te entremetas con los inmutadores:
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly, and the destruction from them both, who knows it?
Porque su quebrantamiento se levantará de repente: ¿y el quebrantamiento de ambos quién lo comprenderá?
23 These also are from the wise: To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.
También estas cosas pertenecen a los sabios. Tener respeto a personas en el juicio, no es bueno.
24 He who says to a wicked man, Thou are righteous, peoples shall curse him, nations shall abhor him.
El que dijere al malo, justo eres: los pueblos le maldecirán, y las naciones le detestarán:
25 But to those who rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
Mas los que le reprenden, serán agradables; y sobre ellos vendrá bendición de bien.
26 He who gives a right answer kisses the lips.
Los labios serán besados, del que responde palabras rectas.
27 Prepare thy work outside, and make it ready for thee in the field, and afterwards build thy house.
Apareja de fuera tu obra, y dispónela en tu heredad; y después edificarás tu casa.
28 Be not a witness against thy neighbor without cause, and deceive not with thy lips.
No seas testigo sin causa contra tu prójimo; y no lisonjees con tus labios.
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.
No digas: Como me hizo, así le haré: daré el pago al varón según su obra.
30 I went by the field of the sluggard, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding.
Pasé junto a la heredad del hombre perezoso, y junto a la viña del hombre falto de entendimiento.
31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns. The face of it was covered with nettles, and the stone wall of it was broken down.
Y he aquí que por toda ella habían ya crecido espinas, ortigas habían ya cubierto su superficie, y su cerca de piedra estaba ya destruida.
32 Then I beheld, and considered well. I saw, and received instruction:
Y yo miré, y púse lo en mi corazón: lo ví, y recibí enseñanza.
33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep,
Tomando un poco de sueño, cabeceando otro poco, poniendo mano sobre mano otro poco para volver a dormir:
34 so thy poverty shall come as a robber, and thy want as an armed man.
Vendrá como caminante, tu necesidad; y tu pobreza como hombre de escudo.
