< Proverbs 23 >

1 When thou sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently him who is before thee,
Bw’otuulanga okulya n’omufuzi, weetegerezanga ebiri mu maaso go;
2 and put a knife to thy throat if thou be a man given to appetite.
era weegendereze bw’obanga omanyi ng’olulunkanira ebyokulya.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties, since they are deceitful food.
Tolulunkanira mmere ye ennungi, kubanga erimbalimba.
4 Weary not thyself to be rich. Out of thine own wisdom, cease.
Teweemalangako mirembe ng’oyaayaanira obugagga; weefuge obeere mukkakkamu.
5 Will thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? For it certainly makes itself wings, like an eagle that flies toward heaven.
Eby’obugagga obikubako eriiso limu nga by’agenze dda, kubanga ddala bimera ebiwaawaatiro ne bibuuka mu bbanga ng’empungu.
6 Eat thou not the bread of an evil eye, nor desire thou his dainties.
Tolyanga mmere ya muntu mukodo, wadde okwegomba ebirungi by’alya.
7 For as he thinks within himself, so is he. Eat and drink, he says to thee, but his heart is not with thee.
Kubanga ye muntu abalirira ensimbi z’asaasaanyizza, n’akugamba nti, “Weeriire, weenywere,” naye ng’omutima gwe tegukusanyukira.
8 The morsel which thou have eaten thou shall vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
Akatono k’onooba olidde onookasesema, ebigambo byo ebirungi eby’okwebaza bibe bya bwereere.
9 Speak not in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
Totegana kubuulirira musirusiru, kubanga ajja kunyooma ebigambo byo eby’amagezi.
10 Remove not the ancient landmark. And enter not into the fields of the fatherless,
Tojjululanga nsalo ey’edda, so toyingiriranga nnimiro za bamulekwa,
11 for their Redeemer is strong. He will plead their cause against thee.
kubanga abalwanirira w’amaanyi, alikuggulako omusango.
12 Apply thy heart to instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.
Ossangayo omwoyo eri okuyigirizibwa, n’amatu go eri ebigambo by’okutegeera.
13 Withhold not correction from the child, for if thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.
Tolekangayo kukangavvula mwana, bw’omubonereza n’akaggo tekimutta.
14 Thou shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from Sheol. (Sheol h7585)
Mubonerezenga n’akaggo, kiwonye emmeeme ye okufa. (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart will be glad, even mine.
Mwana wange, bw’oba n’omutima ogw’amagezi, kinsanyusa.
16 Yea, my heart will rejoice when thy lips speak right things.
Nnaajjaguzanga okuva ku ntobo y’omutima gwange, bw’onooyogeranga ebituufu.
17 Let not thy heart envy sinners, but be thou in the fear of Jehovah all the day long.
Omutima gwo gulemenga okukwatirwa aboonoonyi obuggya, kyokka nyiikira okutya Mukama ebbanga lyonna.
18 For surely there is a reward, and thy hope shall not be cut off.
Mazima ddala onoobanga n’essuubi mu biseera eby’omu maaso, n’essuubi lyo eryo teririggwaawo.
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way.
Mwana wange wulirizanga, obeerenga n’amagezi, okumenga omutima gwo mu kkubo ettuufu.
20 Be not among winebibbers, among gluttonous eaters of flesh.
Teweegattanga ku abo abeekamirira omwenge, n’abalulunkanira ennyama:
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.
Kubanga omutamiivu n’omuluvu baavuwala, n’okubongoota olutata kubambaza enziina.
22 Hearken to thy father who begot thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
Wulirizanga kitaawo eyakuzaala, so togayanga nnyoko ng’akaddiye.
23 Buy the truth, and do not sell it, yea, wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Gula amazima so togatunda, ffuna amagezi, n’okuyigirizibwa n’okutegeera.
24 The father of a righteous man will greatly rejoice, and he who begets a wise son will have joy of him.
Kitaawe w’omutuukirivu alina essanyu lingi, n’oyo azaala omwana ow’amagezi amwenyumiririzaamu.
25 Let thy father and thy mother be glad, and let her who bore thee rejoice.
Leka kitaawo ne nnyoko basanyuke, omukazi eyakuzaala ajaguzenga.
26 My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes delight in my ways.
Mwana wange mpa omutima gwo, n’amaaso go geekalirize amakubo gange,
27 For a harlot is a deep ditch, and an interloping woman is a narrow pit.
kubanga omukazi omwenzi lukonko luwanvu, n’omukazi omubambaavu luzzi lufunda.
28 Yea, she lies in wait as a robber, and increases the treacherous among men.
Ateega ng’omutemu, n’ayongera ku muwendo gw’abasajja abatali beesigwa eri bakazi baabwe.
29 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes?
Ani alina obuyinike? Ani alina ennaku? Ani alina ennyombo? Ani alina okwemulugunya? Ani alina ebiwundu eby’obwereere? Ani amyuse amaaso?
30 Those who tarry long at the wine. Those who go to seek out mixed wine.
Abo abatava ku mwenge, nga bagenda baloza ku mwenge omutabule.
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly.
Totunuulira wayini ng’amyuse, bw’atemaganira mu ggiraasi ng’akka empolampola;
32 At the end it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder.
ku nkomerero aluma ng’omusota, wa busagwa ng’essalambwa.
33 Thine eyes shall behold strange things, and thy heart shall utter perverse things.
Amaaso go galiraba ebyewuunyo, n’omutwe gwo ne gulowooza ebitategeerekeka.
34 Yea, thou shall be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he who lies upon the top of a mast.
Oliba ng’omuntu eyeebase wakati mu nnyanja, obanga oyo alengejjera waggulu ku mulongooti.
35 They have stricken me, thou shall say, and I was not hurt. They have beaten me, and I did not feel it. When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
Olyogera nti, “Bankubye, naye sirumiddwa. Bankubye naye sirina kye mpuliddemu. Nnaazuukuka ddi, neeyongere okunywa?”
