Proverbs 22
1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold.
Ein guter Name ist wertvoller als großer Reichtum, und Anmut ist besser als Silber und Gold.
2 The rich and the poor meet together. Jehovah is the maker of them all.
Reiche und Arme begegnen einander; der HERR hat sie alle gemacht.
3 A prudent man sees the evil, and hides himself, but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
Der Kluge sieht das Unglück und verbirgt sich; aber die Einfältigen tappen hinein und müssen es büßen.
4 The reward of humility and the fear of Jehovah is riches and honor and life.
Der Lohn der Demut und der Furcht des HERRN ist Reichtum, Ehre und Leben.
5 Thorns and snares are in the way of a perverse man. He who keeps his soul shall be far from them.
Dornen und Schlingen sind auf dem Wege des Verkehrten; wer seine Seele bewahren will, bleibe fern davon!
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Gewöhnt man einen Knaben an den Weg, den er gehen soll, so läßt er nicht davon, wenn er alt wird!
7 The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
Der Reiche herrscht über die Armen, und wer borgt, ist des Gläubigers Knecht.
8 He who sows iniquity shall reap calamity, and the rod of his wrath shall fail.
Wer Unrecht sät, wird Unheil ernten, und die Rute seines Übermuts liegt bereit.
9 He who has a bountiful eye shall be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor.
Gesegnet wird der Mitleidige; denn er gibt dem Armen von seinem Brot.
10 Cast out the scoffer, and contention will go out, yea, strife and reproach will cease.
Vertreibe den Spötter, so nimmt der Streit ein Ende, und das Zanken und Schmähen hört auf.
11 He who loves pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips, the king will be his friend.
Wer Herzensreinheit liebt und anmutige Lippen hat, dessen Freund ist der König.
12 The eyes of Jehovah preserve knowledge, but he overthrows the words of the treacherous man.
Die Augen des HERRN behüten die Erkenntnis, aber er verwirrt die Reden des Betrügers.
13 The sluggard says, There is a lion outside. I shall be slain in the streets.
Der Faule spricht: «Es ist ein Löwe draußen; der könnte mich auf offener Straße zerreißen!»
14 The mouth of interloping women is a deep pit. He who is abhorred of Jehovah shall fall in it.
Ein Hurenmaul ist eine tiefe Grube; wen der HERR strafen will, der fällt hinein.
15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Torheit steckt dem Knaben im Herzen; aber die Rute der Zucht wird sie ihm austreiben.
16 He who oppresses a poor man to his increase, and he who gives to a rich man, comes only to want.
Wer einen Armen drückt, bereichert ihn; wer einem Reichen gibt, schadet ihm nur.
17 Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart to my knowledge.
Neige dein Ohr und höre die Worte der Weisen, und dein Herz merke auf meine Lehre!
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee, if they be established together upon thy lips.
Denn das ist lieblich, wenn du sie in deinem Innern bewahrst, wenn sie allzumal bereitstehen auf deinen Lippen.
19 That thy trust may be in Jehovah, I have made them known to thee this day, even to thee.
Damit du dein Vertrauen auf den HERRN setzest, lehre ich dich heute, ja, dich!
20 Have I not written to thee excellent things of counsels and knowledge,
Habe ich dir nicht Vortreffliches geschrieben mit Ratschlägen und Lehren,
21 to make thee know the certainty of the words of truth, that thou may carry back words of truth to those who send thee?
daß ich dir kundtäte die zuverlässigen Worte der Wahrheit, damit du wahrheitsgetreuen Bescheid gebest denen, die dich senden?
22 Do not rob a poor man, because he is poor, nor oppress an afflicted man in the gate.
Beraube den Schwachen nicht, weil er schwach ist, und unterdrücke den Elenden nicht im Tor!
23 For Jehovah will plead their cause, and despoil of life those who despoil them.
Denn der HERR wird ihre Sache führen und wird denen, die sie berauben, das Leben rauben.
24 Make no friendship with a man who is given to anger, and thou shall not go with a wrathful man,
Geselle dich nicht zu einem Zornmütigen und begib dich zu keinem Hitzkopf,
25 lest thou learn this ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
damit du dir nicht seinen Wandel angewöhnest und er dir nicht zum Fallstrick deiner Seele werde.
26 Be thou not one of those who strike hands, or of those who are sureties for debts.
Sei nicht unter denen, welche in die Hand geloben, die sich für Schulden verbürgen;
27 If thou have not wherewith to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
denn wenn du nicht bezahlen kannst, warum soll man dir dein Bett wegnehmen?
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
Verrücke die ewige Grenze nicht, welche deine Väter gemacht haben.
29 See thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before obscure men.
Siehst du jemand emsig in seinem Geschäft, der darf sich vor Könige stellen; er wird nicht bei unbedeutenden Leuten dienen.
