Proverbs 20
1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever errs thereby is not wise.
El vino es un burlador y la cerveza es un pendenciero. Quien se deja llevar por ellos no es sabio.
2 The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger sins against his own life.
El terror de un rey es como el rugido de un león. Quien lo provoque a la ira perderá su propia vida.
3 It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarrelling.
Es un honor para un hombre mantenerse alejado de las disputas, pero todos los tontos se pelearán.
4 The sluggard will not plow because of the winter. Therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
El perezoso no arará a causa del invierno; por lo que mendigará en la cosecha, y no tendrá nada.
5 Purpose in the heart of man is deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.
El consejo en el corazón del hombre es como las aguas profundas, pero un hombre comprensivo lo sacará.
6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness, but a faithful man who can find?
Muchos hombres pretenden ser hombres de amor indefectible, pero ¿quién puede encontrar un hombre fiel?
7 A righteous man who walks in his integrity, blessed are his sons after him.
El hombre justo camina con integridad. Benditos sean sus hijos después de él.
8 A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
Un rey que se sienta en el trono del juicio dispersa todo el mal con sus ojos.
9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean. I am pure from my sin?
¿Quién puede decir: “He purificado mi corazón”? Estoy limpio y sin pecado”.
10 Diverse weights, and diverse measures, both of them alike are an abomination to Jehovah.
Pesos y medidas diferentes, ambos por igual son una abominación para Yahvé.
11 Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
Hasta un niño se da a conocer por sus actos, si su trabajo es puro, y si es correcto.
12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Jehovah has made even both of them.
El oído que oye y el ojo que ve, Yahvé ha hecho incluso a los dos.
13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty. Open thine eyes, and thou shall be satisfied with bread.
No ames el sueño, no sea que llegues a la pobreza. Abre los ojos y te saciarás de pan.
14 It is bad, it is bad, says the buyer, but when he is gone his way, then he boasts.
“No es bueno, no es bueno”, dice el comprador; pero cuando se va por su camino, entonces se jacta.
15 There is gold, and abundance of rubies, but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
Hay oro y abundancia de rubíes, pero los labios del conocimiento son una joya rara.
16 Take his garment who is surety for a stranger, and hold him in pledge for foreigners.
Toma la prenda de quien pone una garantía para un extranjero; y lo tienen en prenda por una mujer descarriada.
17 Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
La comida fraudulenta es dulce para el hombre, pero después se le llena la boca de grava.
18 Every purpose is established by counsel, and by wise guidance make thou war.
Los planes se establecen mediante asesoramiento; ¡con una guía sabia haces la guerra!
19 He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets. Therefore do not associate with him who opens wide his lips.
El que va de un lado a otro como portador de cuentos revela secretos; por tanto, no te hagas compañía de quien abre mucho los labios.
20 He who curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.
El que maldiga a su padre o a su madre, su lámpara se apagará en la oscuridad de las tinieblas.
21 An inheritance gotten hastily at the beginning shall not be blessed in the end.
Una herencia ganada rápidamente al principio no será bendecido al final.
22 Say thou not, I will recompense evil. Wait for Jehovah, and he will save thee.
No digas: “Pagaré el mal”. Espera a Yahvé, y él te salvará.
23 Diverse weights are an abomination to Jehovah, and a false balance is not good.
Yahvé detesta las diferencias de peso, y las balanzas deshonestas no son agradables.
24 A man's goings are of Jehovah, how then can man understand his way?
Los pasos del hombre son de Yahvé; ¿cómo puede entonces el hombre entender su camino?
25 It is a snare to a man to say rashly, It is holy. And to make inquiry after vows.
Es una trampa para el hombre hacer una entrega precipitada, para luego considerar sus votos.
26 A wise king winnows the wicked, and brings the wheel over them.
Un rey sabio selecciona a los malvados, y conduce el trillo sobre ellos.
27 The spirit of man is the lamp of Jehovah, searching all his innermost parts.
El espíritu del hombre es la lámpara de Yahvé, buscando en todas sus partes más íntimas.
28 Kindness and truth preserve the king, and his throne is upheld by kindness.
El amor y la fidelidad mantienen al rey a salvo. Su trono se sustenta en el amor.
29 The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is the hoary head.
La gloria de los jóvenes es su fuerza. El esplendor de los ancianos son sus canas.
30 Stripes that wound cleanse away evil, and strokes, the innermost parts.
Los golpes que hieren limpian el mal, y los golpes purgan las partes más íntimas.
