Philippians 2
1 If therefore any exhortation is in Christ, if any encouragement of love, if any fellowship of spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
Si donc il est quelque encouragement dans le Christ, s’il est quelque consolation de charité, s’il est quelque communauté d’esprit, s’il est quelque tendresse et quelque compassion,
2 fulfill my joy, that ye may think the same way, having the same love, being knit in soul, thinking in oneness,
rendez ma joie parfaite: ayez une même pensée, un même amour, une même âme, un même sentiment.
3 in nothing according to selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility considering each other surpassing yourselves.
Ne faites rien par esprit de rivalité ou par vaine gloire; mais que chacun, en toute humilité, regarde les autres comme au-dessus de soi;
4 Look ye out each man not to things of yourselves, but each man also to the things of others.
chacun ayant égard, non à ses propres intérêts, mais à ceux des autres.
5 Indeed have this way to think in you, that also was in Christ Jesus,
Ayez en vous les mêmes sentiments dont était animé le Christ Jésus:
6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider being equal to God something to seize and hold.
bien qu’il fût dans la condition de Dieu, il n’a pas retenu avidement son égalité avec Dieu;
7 But he emptied himself, having taken a form of a bondman, having become in a likeness of men.
mais il s’est anéanti lui-même, en prenant la condition d’esclave, en se rendant semblable aux hommes, et reconnu pour homme par tout ce qui a paru de lui;
8 And having been found in a form like a man, he lowered himself, having become obedient until death, even of death from a cross.
il s’est abaissé lui-même, se faisant obéissant jusqu’à la mort, et à la mort de la croix.
9 Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name above every name,
C’est pourquoi aussi Dieu l’a souverainement élevé, et lui a donné le nom qui est au-dessus de tout nom,
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of the heavenly, and the earthly, and the sub-earthly,
afin qu’au nom de Jésus tout genou fléchisse dans les cieux, sur la terre et dans les enfers,
11 and that every tongue should acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
et que toute langue confesse, à la gloire de Dieu le Père, que Jésus-Christ est Seigneur.
12 Therefore my beloved, just as ye have always obeyed, not only as in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Ainsi, mes bien-aimés, comme vous avez toujours été obéissants, travaillez à votre salut avec crainte et tremblement, non seulement comme en ma présence, mais bien plus encore maintenant que je suis absent;
13 For it is God who works in you both to desire and to work for approval.
car c’est Dieu qui opère en vous le vouloir et le faire, selon son bon plaisir.
14 Do all things without grumblings and arguments,
Agissez en tout sans murmures ni hésitations,
15 so that ye may become blameless and pure children of God, blameless in the midst of a crooked and perverted generation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.
afin que vous soyez sans reproche, simples, enfants de Dieu irrépréhensibles au milieu de ce peuple pervers et corrompu, dans le sein duquel vous brillez comme des flambeaux dans le monde,
16 Holding firm the word of life, for a boast by me in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain nor labor in vain.
étant en possession de la parole de vie; et ainsi je pourrai me glorifier, au jour du Christ, de n’avoir pas couru en vain, ni travaillé en vain.
17 Yet even if I am poured out a libation upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.
Et même dût mon sang servir de libation dans le sacrifice et dans le service de votre foi, je m’en réjouis et vous en félicite.
18 And in the same way, ye also be glad and rejoice with me.
Vous aussi réjouissez-vous-en et m’en félicitez.
19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I also may be cheerful when I know the things about you.
J’espère dans le Seigneur Jésus vous envoyer bientôt Timothée, afin de me sentir moi-même plein de courage en apprenant de vos nouvelles.
20 For I have no man like-minded who will genuinely care for the things about you.
Car je n’ai personne qui me soit tant uni de sentiments, pour prendre sincèrement à cœur ce qui vous concerne;
21 For they all seek the things of themselves, not the things of Christ Jesus.
tous, en effet, ont en vue leurs propres intérêts, et non ceux de Jésus-Christ.
22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a child to a father, he served with me for the good news.
Vous savez qu’il est d’une vertu éprouvée, qu’il s’est dévoué avec moi, comme un enfant avec son père, au service de l’Évangile.
23 Indeed therefore I hope to send this man immediately, whenever I may focus on the things concerning me.
J’espère donc vous l’envoyer dès que j’apercevrai l’issue de ma situation;
24 And I trust in the Lord that I myself also will come soon.
et j’espère également du Seigneur que moi-même aussi je pourrai venir bientôt.
25 But I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and co-workman and fellow soldier, and your apostle and servant of my need,
En attendant j’ai cru nécessaire de vous envoyer Épaphrodite mon frère, le compagnon de mes travaux et de mes combats, qui était venu de votre part pour subvenir à mes besoins.
26 since he was longing for you all, and distressed because ye heard that he was sick.
Car il désirait vous revoir tous, et il était fort en peine de ce que vous aviez appris sa maladie.
27 For also he was sick, near death, but God was merciful to him, and not only him, but also me, so that I might not have sorrow upon sorrow.
Il a été, en effet, malade à mourir; mais Dieu a eu pitié de lui et non pas seulement de lui, mais aussi de moi, afin que je n’eusse pas tristesse sur tristesse.
28 Therefore I sent him more urgently, so that having seen him again, ye may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful.
J’ai donc mis plus d’empressement à vous l’envoyer, afin que la joie vous revînt en le voyant, et que moi-même je fusse moins triste.
29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men esteemed.
Recevez-le donc dans le Seigneur, avec une joie entière, et honorez de tels hommes.
30 Because for sake of the work of the Christ he came near the point of death, handing over his life so that he might fill up the deficiency of your service toward me.
Car c’est pour l’œuvre du Christ qu’il a été près de la mort, ayant mis sa vie en jeu, afin de vous suppléer dans le service que vous ne pouviez me rendre.
