< Matthew 11 >
1 And it came to pass when Jesus finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
itthaM yIzuH svadvAdazaziSyANAmAjJApanaM samApya pure pura upadeSTuM susaMvAdaM pracArayituM tatsthAnAt pratasthe|
2 Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, having sent two of his disciples,
anantaraM yohan kArAyAM tiSThan khriSTasya karmmaNAM vArttaM prApya yasyAgamanavArttAsIt saeva kiM tvaM? vA vayamanyam apekSiSyAmahe?
3 he said to him, Are thou he who comes, or do we look for another man?
etat praSTuM nijau dvau ziSyau prAhiNot|
4 And having answered, Jesus said to them, After going, report to John the things that ye hear and see:
yIzuH pratyavocat, andhA netrANi labhante, khaJcA gacchanti, kuSThinaH svasthA bhavanti, badhirAH zRNvanti, mRtA jIvanta uttiSThanti, daridrANAM samIpe susaMvAdaH pracAryyata,
5 the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor are proclaimed good news.
etAni yadyad yuvAM zRNuthaH pazyathazca gatvA tadvArttAM yohanaM gadataM|
6 And blessed is he, whoever will not be caused to stumble by me.
yasyAhaM na vighnIbhavAmi, saeva dhanyaH|
7 And while those men departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes about John, What did ye go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
anantaraM tayoH prasthitayo ryIzu ryohanam uddizya janAn jagAda, yUyaM kiM draSTuM vahirmadhyeprAntaram agacchata? kiM vAtena kampitaM nalaM?
8 But what did ye go out to see? A man clothed in delicate clothes? Behold, those wearing delicate things are in king's houses.
vA kiM vIkSituM vahirgatavantaH? kiM parihitasUkSmavasanaM manujamekaM? pazyata, ye sUkSmavasanAni paridadhati, te rAjadhAnyAM tiSThanti|
9 But what did ye go out to see? A prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
tarhi yUyaM kiM draSTuM bahiragamata, kimekaM bhaviSyadvAdinaM? tadeva satyaM| yuSmAnahaM vadAmi, sa bhaviSyadvAdinopi mahAn;
10 For this is he about whom it is written, Behold, I send my agent before thy face who will prepare thy way before thee.
yataH, pazya svakIyadUtoyaM tvadagre preSyate mayA| sa gatvA tava panthAnaM smayak pariSkariSyati|| etadvacanaM yamadhi likhitamAste so'yaM yohan|
11 Truly I say to you, among men born of women there has not been raised a greater than John the immerser. Yet the smaller in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he.
aparaM yuSmAnahaM tathyaM bravImi, majjayitu ryohanaH zreSThaH kopi nArIto nAjAyata; tathApi svargarAjyamadhye sarvvebhyo yaH kSudraH sa yohanaH zreSThaH|
12 And from the days of John the immerser until now the kingdom of the heavens is treated aggressively, and aggressors seize it.
aparaJca A yohano'dya yAvat svargarAjyaM balAdAkrAntaM bhavati Akraminazca janA balena tadadhikurvvanti|
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
yato yohanaM yAvat sarvvabhaviSyadvAdibhi rvyavasthayA ca upadezaH prAkAzyata|
14 And if ye are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is going to come.
yadi yUyamidaM vAkyaM grahItuM zaknutha, tarhi zreyaH, yasyAgamanasya vacanamAste so'yam eliyaH|
15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
yasya zrotuM karNau staH sa zRNotu|
16 But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, calling to their companions,
ete vidyamAnajanAH kai rmayopamIyante? ye bAlakA haTTa upavizya svaM svaM bandhumAhUya vadanti,
17 and saying, We piped to you, and ye did not dance, we mourned to you, and ye did not beat the breast.
vayaM yuSmAkaM samIpe vaMzIravAdayAma, kintu yUyaM nAnRtyata; yuSmAkaM samIpe ca vayamarodima, kintu yUyaM na vyalapata, tAdRzai rbAlakaista upamAyiSyante|
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon.
yato yohan Agatya na bhuktavAn na pItavAMzca, tena lokA vadanti, sa bhUtagrasta iti|
19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold the man, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! And wisdom is justified from her children.
manujasuta Agatya bhuktavAn pItavAMzca, tena lokA vadanti, pazyata eSa bhoktA madyapAtA caNDAlapApinAM bandhazca, kintu jJAnino jJAnavyavahAraM nirdoSaM jAnanti|
20 Then he began to upbraid the cities in which most of his mighty works occurred, because they did not repent.
sa yatra yatra pure bahvAzcaryyaM karmma kRtavAn, tannivAsinAM manaHparAvRttyabhAvAt tAni nagarANi prati hantetyuktA kathitavAn,
21 Woe to thee, Chorazin! Woe to thee, Bethsaida! Because if the mighty works that occurred in you occurred in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
hA korAsIn, hA baitsaide, yuSmanmadhye yadyadAzcaryyaM karmma kRtaM yadi tat sorasIdonnagara akAriSyata, tarhi pUrvvameva tannivAsinaH zANavasane bhasmani copavizanto manAMsi parAvarttiSyanta|
22 Nevertheless I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.
tasmAdahaM yuSmAn vadAmi, vicAradine yuSmAkaM dazAtaH sorasIdono rdazA sahyatarA bhaviSyati|
23 And thou, Capernaum, which was exalted as far as the sky. Thou will be brought down as far as Hades, because if the mighty works had occurred in Sodom that occurred in thee, it would have remained until this day. (Hadēs )
aparaJca bata kapharnAhUm, tvaM svargaM yAvadunnatosi, kintu narake nikSepsyase, yasmAt tvayi yAnyAzcaryyANi karmmaNyakAriSata, yadi tAni sidomnagara akAriSyanta, tarhi tadadya yAvadasthAsyat| (Hadēs )
24 Nevertheless I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
kintvahaM yuSmAn vadAmi, vicAradine tava daNDataH sidomo daNDo sahyataro bhaviSyati|
25 Jesus having responded at that time, said, I extol thee, O Father, Lord of the heaven and the earth, because thou hid these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to the childlike.
etasminneva samaye yIzuH punaruvAca, he svargapRthivyorekAdhipate pitastvaM jJAnavato viduSazca lokAn pratyetAni na prakAzya bAlakAn prati prakAzitavAn, iti hetostvAM dhanyaM vadAmi|
26 Yea, Father, because this way it was done pleasing in thy sight.
he pitaH, itthaM bhavet yata idaM tvadRSTAvuttamaM|
27 All things were delivered to me by my Father. And no man knows the Son, except the Father, nor does any man know the Father, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son wants to reveal him.
pitrA mayi sarvvANi samarpitAni, pitaraM vinA kopi putraM na jAnAti, yAn prati putreNa pitA prakAzyate tAn vinA putrAd anyaH kopi pitaraM na jAnAti|
28 Come to me, all ye who labor and have been burdened, and I will give you rest.
he parizrAntA bhArAkrAntAzca lokA yUyaM matsannidhim Agacchata, ahaM yuSmAn vizramayiSyAmi|
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, because I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye will find rest for your souls.
ahaM kSamaNazIlo namramanAzca, tasmAt mama yugaM sveSAmupari dhArayata mattaH zikSadhvaJca, tena yUyaM sve sve manasi vizrAmaM lapsyadhbe|
30 For my yoke is befitting, and my burden is light.
yato mama yugam anAyAsaM mama bhArazca laghuH|
