These men, the Twelve, Jesus sent forth, after giving them the following instructions. "Do not go among the Gentiles, or enter any Samaritan town,
6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
"but rather be on your way to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And while going, preach, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has come near.
"As you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
8 Heal those who are feeble, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely ye received, freely give.
"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.
9 Acquire no gold, nor silver, nor copper in your belts,
"Take no gold or silver or coppers in your purses;
10 no bag for the road, nor two coats, nor shoes, nor staffs, for the workman is worthy of his provision.
"not even a bag for the journey, or a change of clothes, or sandals, or even a stick; for the worker is worth his rations.
11 And into whatever city or village ye may enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and there abide until ye go forth.
"Into whatever city or town you enter, inquire for some worthy person there, and stay with him until you leave.
12 And while entering into the house, salute it.
"When you enter the house, salute it;
13 And if indeed the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
"and if the house is worthy let your blessing sit upon it; but if it be unworthy, let your blessing return to you.
14 And whoever will not receive you, nor hear your words, while departing that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet.
"And whoever will not receive you or listen to your words, as you go out from that house or that city, shake off the very dust from your feet.
15 Truly I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.
"I tell you solemnly it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of Judgment than for that town.
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Become ye therefore wise as serpents, and innocent as doves.
"Behold, it is I who am sending you forth like sheep among wolves. Be then as serpents and as guileless as doves.
17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues,
"But beware of men! For they will give you up to the Sanhedrin, and flog you in their synagogues.
18 and ye will be brought to governors and even kings because of me, for a witness to them and to the Gentiles.
"And you will be taken before governors and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye should speak, for it will be given you in that hour what ye will speak.
"But whenever they apprehend you, do not be anxious about how you shall speak or what you shall say; for it will be given you in that very hour what to say.
20 For ye are not who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking in you.
"For it will not be you who is speaking, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
21 And a brother will deliver up a brother to death, and a father a child. And children will rise up against parents, and condemn them to death.
"And brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against their parents and put them to death.
22 And ye will be hated by all men because of my name, but he who endures to the end, this man will be saved.
"You will be hated by all men because of my name; and he who endures to the end shall be saved.
23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the other, for truly I say to you, ye will, no, not have completed the cities of Israel, until the Son of man comes.
"But when they persecute you in one city, flee to the next. In solemn truth I tell you that you shall not have completed the cities of Israel, before the Son of man comes.
24 A pupil is not above his teacher, nor a bondman above his lord.
"A pupil is not above his teacher, nor a slave above his masters.
25 It is enough for the pupil that he becomes like his teacher, and the bondman like his lord. If they have called the house-ruler Beelzebub, how much more those of his household.
"It is enough for the pupil to fare like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more, the members of his household.
26 Fear them not therefore, for there is nothing covered, that will not be revealed, and hid, that will not be known.
"So do not fear them; for there is nothing concealed which shall not be revealed, nor anything secret which shall not become known.
27 What I tell you in the darkness, speak ye in the light, and what ye hear in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
"What I am telling you is in the darkness, do you speak in the light; and what is whispered in your ear, proclaim upon the housetops.
28 And be not afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Geenna g1067)

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall on the ground independent of your Father.
"Are not two sparrows sold for a half-penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your father.
30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
"The very hairs on your head are all numbered.
31 Fear not therefore, ye are of worth more than many sparrows.
"Cease to be afraid! You are of greater value than many sparrows.
32 Therefore every man, whoever will profess in me before men, I also will profess in him before my Father in the heavens.
"Every one, then, who will confess me before men, I also will confess before my Father who is in heaven.
33 But whoever would deny me before men, I also will deny him before my Father in the heavens.
"But whoever disowns me before men, I also will disown before my Father who is in heaven.
34 Think not that I came to spread peace on the earth. I came not to spread peace, but a sword.
"Do not suppose that I am come to bring peace on the earth; I am come not to bring peace, but a sword.
35 For I came to divide a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
"For I came to set "a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
36 And a man's foes, are those of his own household.
"and a man’s own household will be his enemies.
37 He who loves father or mother above me is not worthy of me, and he who loves son or daughter above me is not worthy of me.
"He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;
38 And he who does not take his cross and follow behind me, is not worthy of me.
"and he who does not take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.
39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life because of me will find it.
"He who has saved his life shall lose it; and he who has lost his life for my sake shall find it.
40 He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.
"Whoever receives you is receiving me, and he who receives me is receiving Him who sent me.
41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's reward.
"Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet, shall receive a prophet’s reward; and whoever receives a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
42 And whoever may give to drink one of these little ones merely a cold cup in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you he will, no, not lose his reward.
"And whoever gives to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only, because he is a disciple, I tell you in solemn truth, he shall not lose his reward.
