Luke 8
1 And it came to pass that he traveled through, by city and village in succession, announcing and preaching the good news of the kingdom of God, and the twelve men with him,
Ensuite, il alla de ville en ville et de village en village prêchant, et annonçant l'Évangile du Royaume de Dieu.
2 and certain women who were healed from evil spirits and infirmities: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
Avec lui étaient les douze et quelques femmes qui avaient été délivrées de mauvais Esprits, ou guéries de maladies: Marie, celle qu'on appelle Magdelaine, de laquelle étaient sortis sept démons;
3 and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many other women who served them from the things they possessed.
Jeanne, femme de Chouza, intendant d'Hérode; Suzanne, et beaucoup d'autres qui l'assistaient de leurs biens.
4 And when a large multitude gathered together, and those coming to him from each city, he spoke by a parable.
Comme il s'assemblait une foule énorme et que de toutes les villes on venait à lui, il dit cette parabole:
5 The man who sows went forth to sow his seed. And during his sowing, some fell by the way, and it was trampled, and the birds of the sky devoured it.
«Le semeur est sorti pour semer sa semence; il jette sa semence, et des grains sont tombés le long du chemin; on les a foulés aux pieds; et les oiseaux du ciel les ont mangés.»
6 And another fell on the rock, and having grown, it withered away because of not having moisture.
«D'autres sont tombés sur des pierres; ils ont levé, puis séché; ils n'avaient pas d'humidité.»
7 And another fell amidst the thorns, and having grown together, the thorns choked it.
«D'autres grains sont tombés au milieu des épines, et en même temps ont crû les épines; et elles les ont étouffés.»
8 And another fell on the good ground, and having grown it produced fruit a hundredfold. As he said these things, he called out, He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
«D'autres sont tombés dans la bonne terre; ils ont levé; ils ont porté du fruit au centuple.» Cela disant, il s'écriait: «Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende!»
9 And his disciples questioned him, saying, What is this parable?
Ses disciples lui demandèrent ce que signifiait cette parabole.
10 And he said, To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the others in parables, so that seeing they would not see, and hearing they would not understand.
Il répondit: «A vous il est donné de pénétrer les mystères du Royaume de Dieu, mais les autres ne les connaissent que par des paraboles, afin qu'ils voient sans voir et entendent sans comprendre.»
11 Now the parable is this. The seed is the word of God.
«Voici le sens de cette parabole: «La semence, c'est la parole de Dieu.
12 And those by the way are those who hear, then the devil comes, and takes away the word from their heart, lest having believed, they would be saved.
Le long du chemin sont ceux qui ont écouté; mais ensuite vient le diable, qui enlève de leurs coeurs la parole, de peur qu'ils ne croient et ne soient sauvés.
13 And those on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy. And these have no root, who believe for a time, and withdraw in time of trial.
Sur des pierres sont ceux qui, après avoir écouté la parole, l'ont accueillie avec joie; mais ils n'ont pas de racine; ils ont la foi momentanément et, au moment de l'épreuve, ils se retirent.»
14 And that which fell in the thorns, these are those who heard, and as they go they are choked by cares and wealth and pleasures of life, and do not bring to maturity.
«La semence tombée parmi les épines représente ceux qui ont écouté la parole, et puis ils sont partis, et chez eux elle demeure stérile, étouffée par les soucis, par les richesses et par les plaisirs de la vie.»
15 But those in the good ground, these are those who in an good and right heart, having heard the word, hold it firm, and bring forth fruit in perseverance.
«La semence tombée dans la bonne terre représente ceux qui retiennent dans un coeur excellent et bon la parole par eux entendue, et portent du fruit avec persévérance.»
16 And no man, having lit a lamp, covers it with a container, or places it under a bed, but places it on a lampstand, so that those who enter in may see the light.
«Personne, quand il allume une lampe, ne la recouvre d'un vase ou ne la pose sous un lit; on la place au contraire sur un pied-de-lampe, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière.
17 For there is no secret that will not become visible, nor hid, that will not be known and come to be visible.
Car rien n'est caché qui ne doive être découvert, rien n'est secret qui ne doive être connu et mis au jour.
18 Notice therefore how ye hear. For whoever has, to him will be given, and whoever has not, even what he seems to have will be taken from him.
Prenez donc garde comment vous écoutez. Car à celui qui aura, il sera donné, et à celui qui n'aura pas, même ce qu'il croit avoir lui sera ôté.»
19 And his mother and brothers came to him, and they could not come near him because of the crowd.
Sa mère et ses frères, étant venus le trouver, ne pouvaient, à cause de la foule, pénétrer jusqu'à lui.
20 And it was reported to him, saying, Thy mother and thy brothers stand outside, desiring to see thee.
On l'en prévint: «Ta mère et tes frères sont là dehors, qui voudraient te voir.»
21 But having answered, he said to them, My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.
Il répondit, par ces paroles: «Ma mère et mes frères, ce sont ceux-là, qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui la mettent en pratique.»
22 Now it came to pass on one of those days, that he entered into a boat, also his disciples. And he said to them, Let us pass through to the other side of the lake. And they launched forth,
Il monta, un jour, dans une barque avec ses disciples. «Faisons la traversée du lac», leur dit-il. Ils partirent.
23 but as they sailed he began to asleep. And a storm of wind came down on the lake, and they were filling up, and were in peril.
Tandis qu'ils naviguaient, Jésus s'endormit; et un tourbillon de vent s'abattit sur le lac; la barque s'emplissait d'eau; ils étaient en danger.
24 And having approached, they awoke him, saying, Master, master, we are perishing. And having risen, he rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and it became calm.
Les disciples allèrent à lui, le réveillèrent, lui disant: «Maître, maître, nous périssons!» Il se leva, se mit à menacer le vent et les flots soulevés. Ils s'arrêtèrent; il se fit un calme.
25 And he said to them, Where is your faith? And having feared, they wondered, saying to each other, Who then is this man, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?
Il leur dit alors: «Où est votre foi?» Terrifiés, ils l'admiraient et se disaient l'un à l'autre: «Qui donc est cet homme qui commande aux vents et aux flots, et à qui ils obéissent?»
26 And they sailed toward the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee.
Ils abordèrent au pays des Géraséniens, situé en face de la Galilée.
27 And when he came forth upon the land, a certain man met him out of the city, who had demons of a considerable time. And he wore no clothing, and did not dwell in a house, but in the sepulchers.
Comme Jésus descendait à terre, vint à sa rencontre un homme de la ville, possédé par des démons. Il était depuis fort longtemps sans vêtements; il vivait en dehors de tout domicile; et demeurait dans les sépulcres.
28 And when he saw Jesus, having cried out, he fell down before him. And in a great voice he said, What is with me and with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I beseech thee, do not torment me.
Apercevant Jésus, il tomba à ses pieds en jetant des cris, et dit de toutes ses forces: «Qu'y a-t-il entre moi et toi, Jésus, Fils du Dieu Très-Haut? Je t'en conjure, ne me torture point.»
29 For he commanded the unclean spirit to come out from the man, for many times it had seized him. And he was bound with chains and shackles, and guarded. And breaking the bonds apart, he was driven by the demon into the desolate regions.
En effet, Jésus commandait à l'Esprit impur de sortir de cet homme dont depuis très longtemps il s'était emparé. On l'attachait avec des chaînes, on lui mettait des fers aux pieds pour le retenir; il rompait tous les liens et le démon le poussait vers les lieux déserts. Jésus l'interrogea.
30 And Jesus demanded him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion, because many demons were entered into him.
«Quel est ton nom?» lui dit-il. — Il répondit: «Légion.» Une quantité de démons étaient, en effet, entrés dans cet homme.
Ceux-ci supplièrent Jésus de ne pas ordonner qu'ils allassent à l'abîme, (Abyssos g12)
32 Now a herd of considerable swine was there feeding on the mountain, and they implored him that he would allow them to enter into those. And he allowed them.
mais de leur permettre d'entrer dans un nombreux troupeau de pourceaux qui étaient là, paissant sur la montagne. Il le leur permit.
33 And the demons having come out from the man, they entered into the swine. And the herd stampeded down the slope into the lake, and were drowned.
Les démons sortirent alors de l'homme et entrèrent dans les pourceaux et, d'une course impétueuse, le troupeau se précipita dans le lac et s'y noya.
34 And when those who tended them saw what happened, they fled and reported it in the city and in the fields.
Voyant ce qui était arrivé, les gardeurs prirent la fuite et allèrent répandre la nouvelle dans la ville et dans les campagnes.
35 And they came out to see what happened. And they came to Jesus, and found the man, from whom the demons had gone out, sitting near the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
Les habitants sortirent pour voir ce qui s'était passé. Ils s'approchèrent de Jésus; ils trouvèrent assis à ses pieds, avec ses vêtements, et plein de bon sens, l'homme de qui les démons étaient sortis. Cela leur fit peur.
36 And also those who saw it informed them how the man who was demon-possessed was saved.
Les témoins oculaires leur racontèrent comment le démoniaque avait été guéri.
37 And the whole multitude of the region around the Gadarenes besought him to depart from them, because they were gripped by great fear. And he, having embarked into the boat, returned.
Tout ce peuple du pays des Géraséniens pria alors Jésus de s'éloigner d'eux. En effet, ils étaient frappés de terreur. Il remonta donc dans la barque et s'en retourna.
38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him to be with him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
L'homme qui avait été délivré des démons lui demandait la permission de rester avec lui. Mais Jésus le congédia et lui dit:
39 Return to thy house, and relate everything God did for thee. And he departed, proclaiming throughout the whole city how many things Jesus did for him.
«Retourne en ta maison, et raconte tout ce que Dieu t'a fait.» Cet homme partit, publiant par toute la ville ce que lui avait fait Jésus.
40 And it came to pass during Jesus returning, the multitude welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him.
A son retour, Jésus fut reçu par la foule; tous étaient à l’attendre.
41 And behold, there came a man whose name was Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And having fallen down near Jesus' feet, he besought him to come into his house,
A ce moment un homme nommé Jaïrus, qui était chef de la synagogue, vint se jeter à ses pieds, le suppliant d'entrer dans sa maison,
42 because there was with him an only begotten daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. But during his going the multitudes thronged him.
parce que sa fille unique, âgée de douze ans environ, se mourait.
43 And a woman being with an issue of blood for twelve years, who, although she spent her entire living on physicians, was unable to be healed by any,
Il y allait pressé par la foule, lorsqu'une femme, malade d'une perte de sang depuis douze années, qui avait dépensé en médecins tout son avoir, sans qu'aucun d'eux eût pu la guérir,
44 having come from behind, she touched the border of his garment. And immediately the issue of her blood stayed.
s'approcha par derrière et toucha la frange de son vêtement. Sa perte de sang s'arrêta immédiatement.
45 And Jesus said, Who is he who touched me? But when they all denied, Peter and those with him, said, Master, the multitudes come together and crowd thee, and thou say, Who is he who touched me?
Jésus demanda: «Qui est-ce qui m'a touché?» Tous s'en défendirent. «C'est la foule, maître, qui te presse, qui t'accable», lui dirent Pierre et ceux qui étaient avec luit.
46 But Jesus said, Who touched me? For I perceived power having gone forth from me.
Jésus reprit: «Quelqu'un m'a touché, car j'ai senti qu'une vertu sortait de moi.»
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling. And having fallen down before him, she declared to him in the presence of all the people for what reason she touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
Se voyant découverte, la femme, toute tremblante, vint se jeter à ses pieds et déclara devant tout le monde pourquoi elle l'avait touché, et comment elle avait été immédiatement guérie.
48 And he said to her, Cheer up, Daughter. Thy faith has healed thee. Go in peace.
Et lui, il lui dit: «Ma fille, ta foi t'a guérie; va en paix.»
49 While he still spoke, some man comes from the synagogue ruler, saying to him, Thy daughter has died. Do not trouble the teacher.
Comme il parlait encore, arriva quelqu'un de chez le chef de la synagogue disant: «Ta fille est morte, ne fatigue pas davantage le maître.»
50 But having heard it, Jesus answered him, saying, Fear not, only believe and she will be saved.
Jésus, entendant ces paroles, dit à Jaïrus: «Ne crains point, crois seulement, et elle sera sauvée.»
51 And when he came to the house, he did not allow any man to enter in except Peter and John and James, and the father of the girl and the mother.
Arrivé à la maison, il ne permit à personne d'entrer avec lui, sinon à Pierre, à Jean et à Jacques, ainsi qu'au père et à la mère de l'enfant.
52 And all were weeping and bewailing her. But he said, Weep not. She did not die, but sleeps.
Tous ceux qui étaient là pleuraient à haute voix et se lamentaient sur elle. Il leur dit: «Ne pleurez pas, elle n'est pas morte, mais elle dort.»
53 And they ridiculed him, knowing that she died.
Et on se moquait de lui; on savait bien qu'elle était morte.
54 But having sent them all away outside, having taken her by the hand, he called out, saying, Girl, awake.
Jésus, alors, lui saisit la main et prononça ces paroles: «Mon enfant, réveille-toi!» Et son esprit revint.
55 And her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately. And he commanded to give her to eat.
Elle se leva aussitôt, et Jésus commanda de lui donner à manger.
56 And her parents were amazed, but he ordered them to tell no man that which happened.
Ses parents étaient transportés; mais il leur ordonna de ne dire à personne ce qui était arrivé.
