John 12
1 Therefore six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, the man who died whom he raised from the dead.
Siku sita kabla ya Pasaka, Yesu alikwenda Bethania mahali ambako Lazaro aliyekuwa amefufuliwa na Yesu alikuwa anaishi.
2 So they made a supper for him there, and Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those who sat dining with him.
Wakaandaa karamu kwa heshima ya Yesu. Martha akawahudumia wakati Lazaro alikuwa miongoni mwa waliokaa mezani pamoja na Yesu.
3 Mary therefore, after taking a pound of ointment of very costly genuine spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled of the aroma of the ointment.
Kisha Maria akachukua chupa ya painti moja yenye manukato ya nardo safi ya thamani kubwa, akayamimina miguuni mwa Yesu na kuifuta kwa nywele zake. Nyumba nzima ikajaa harufu nzuri ya manukato.
4 Therefore one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, the man who was going to betray him, says,
Ndipo Yuda Iskariote mwana wa Simoni, mmoja wa wale wanafunzi ambaye ndiye angemsaliti Yesu, akasema,
5 Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?
“Kwa nini manukato haya hayakuuzwa kwa dinari 300 na fedha hizo wakapewa maskini?”
6 Now he said this, not because it was a concern to him about the poor, but because he was a thief, and he had the purse and removed things that were put in.
Yuda alisema hivi si kwa kuwa aliwajali maskini, bali kwa kuwa alikuwa mwizi, kwani ndiye alikuwa akitunza mfuko wa fedha akawa anaiba kile kilichowekwa humo.
7 Jesus therefore said, Let her alone. She has keep it for the day of my burial.
Yesu akasema, “Mwacheni. Aliyanunua manukato hayo ili ayaweke kwa ajili ya siku ya maziko yangu.
8 For ye always have the poor with you, but ye do not always have me.
Maskini mtakuwa nao siku zote, lakini mimi hamtakuwa nami siku zote.”
9 Therefore a great multitude of the Jews knew that he is there. And they came, not only because of Jesus, but that they might also see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.
Umati mkubwa wa Wayahudi walipojua kwamba Yesu alikuwa huko Bethania, walikuja si tu kwa ajili ya Yesu, lakini pia kumwona Lazaro ambaye Yesu alikuwa amemfufua.
10 But the chief priests decided that they should kill Lazarus also,
Kwa hiyo viongozi wa makuhani wakafanya mpango wa kumuua Lazaro pia,
11 since because of him many of the Jews were going and were believing in Jesus.
kwa kuwa kutokana na habari za kufufuliwa kwake Wayahudi wengi walikuwa wanamwendea Yesu na kumwamini.
12 On the morrow a great multitude having come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
Siku iliyofuata umati mkubwa uliokuwa umekuja kwenye Sikukuu walisikia kwamba Yesu angekuja Yerusalemu.
13 took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!
Basi wakachukua matawi ya mitende, wakatoka kwenda kumlaki, huku wakipaza sauti wakisema, “Hosana!” “Amebarikiwa yeye ajaye kwa Jina la Bwana!” “Amebarikiwa Mfalme wa Israeli!”
14 And Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it, as it is written,
Yesu akamkuta mwana-punda akampanda, kama ilivyoandikwa,
15 Fear not, daughter of Zion. Behold, thy King comes, sitting on a donkey's colt.
“Usiogope, Ewe binti Sayuni; tazama, Mfalme wako anakuja, amepanda mwana-punda!”
16 Now his disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these were things written because of him, and they did these things to him.
Wanafunzi wake Yesu mwanzoni hawakuelewa mambo haya, lakini Yesu alipotukuzwa, ndipo walipokumbuka kuwa mambo haya yalikuwa yameandikwa kwa ajili yake na alitendewa yeye.
17 Therefore the multitude, the one that was with him when he called Lazarus from the sepulcher, and raised him from the dead, testified.
Wale waliokuwepo wakati Yesu alipomwita Lazaro kutoka kaburini na kumfufua kutoka kwa wafu, waliendelea kushuhudia.
18 Also because of this the multitude met him, because they heard of him doing this sign.
Ni kwa sababu pia walikuwa wamesikia kwamba alikuwa ametenda muujiza huu ndiyo maana umati wa watu ukaenda kumlaki.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Do ye see that ye accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.
Hivyo Mafarisayo walipoona hayo wakaambiana, “Mnaona, hamwezi kufanya lolote. Angalieni, ulimwengu wote unamfuata yeye!”
20 Now some Greeks were from those who came up so that they might worship at the feast.
Basi palikuwa Wayunani fulani miongoni mwa wale waliokuwa wamekwenda kuabudu wakati wa Sikukuu.
21 These men therefore came to Philip, the man from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we want to see Jesus.
Hawa wakamjia Filipo, ambaye alikuwa mwenyeji wa Bethsaida huko Galilaya, wakiwa na ombi. Wakamwambia, “Tungependa kumwona Yesu.”
22 Philip comes and tells Andrew, and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
Filipo akaenda akamweleza Andrea, nao wote wawili wakamwambia Yesu.
23 And Jesus answered them saying, The hour has come that the Son of man should be glorified.
Yesu akawajibu, “Saa imewadia ya Mwana wa Adamu kutukuzwa.
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat that falls into the ground dies, it remains alone, but if it dies it bears much fruit.
Amin, amin nawaambia, mbegu ya ngano isipoanguka ardhini na kufa, hubakia kama mbegu peke yake. Lakini ikifa huzaa mbegu nyingi.
25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
Mtu yeyote anayependa maisha yake atayapoteza, naye ayachukiaye maisha yake katika ulimwengu huu atayaokoa hata kwa uzima wa milele. (aiōnios g166)
26 If any man serves me, let him follow me, and where I am, there my helper will also be. And if any man serves me, the Father will honor him.
Mtu yeyote akinitumikia lazima anifuate, nami mahali nilipo ndipo mtumishi wangu atakapokuwa. Mtu akinitumikia, Baba yangu atamheshimu.
27 Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But because of this I came to this hour.
“Sasa roho yangu imefadhaika sana. Niseme nini? ‘Baba, niokoe katika saa hii.’ Lakini ni kwa kusudi hili nimeufikia wakati huu.
28 Father, glorify thy name. A voice therefore came out of heaven, saying, I both glorified it, and I will glorify again.
Baba, litukuze jina lako.” Ndipo ikaja sauti kutoka mbinguni, “Nimelitukuza, nami nitalitukuza tena.”
29 The multitude therefore that stood by and heard, said thunder occurred, others said, An agent has spoken to him.
Ule umati wa watu uliokuwa mahali pale uliisikia nao ukasema, “Hiyo ni sauti ya radi,” wengine wakasema, “Malaika ameongea naye.”
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice occurred not for my sake, but for your sakes.
Yesu akawaambia, “Sauti hii imesikika kwa faida yenu, wala si kwa faida yangu.
31 Now is the judgment of this world. Now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
Sasa ni saa ya hukumu kwa ajili ya ulimwengu huu, sasa mkuu wa ulimwengu huu atatupwa nje.
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to myself.
Lakini mimi, nikiinuliwa kutoka nchi, nitawavuta watu wote waje kwangu.”
33 And he said this, signifying by what death he was going to die.
Yesu aliyasema haya akionyesha ni kifo gani atakachokufa.
34 The multitude answered him, We have heard from the law that the Christ remains into the age. And how can thou say, The Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? (aiōn g165)
Ule umati wa watu ukapiga kelele ukasema, “Tumesikia kutoka Sheria kwamba ‘Kristo adumu milele,’ wewe wawezaje kusema, ‘Mwana wa Adamu hana budi kuinuliwa juu’? Huyu ‘Mwana wa Adamu’ ni nani?” (aiōn g165)
35 Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little time the light is with you. Walk while ye have the light, so that darkness may not overcome you. And he who walks in the darkness knows not where he is going.
Ndipo Yesu akawaambia, “Bado kitambo kidogo nuru ingalipo pamoja nanyi. Enendeni maadamu mna nuru, msije mkakumbwa na giza. Mtu anayetembea gizani hajui anakokwenda.
36 While ye have the light, believe in the light, so that ye may become sons of light. Jesus spoke these things, and after departing, he was hid from them.
Wekeni tumaini lenu katika nuru hiyo ili mpate kuwa wana wa nuru.” Baada ya kusema haya, Yesu aliondoka, akajificha wasimwone.
37 But although having done so many signs before them, they did not believe in him,
Hata baada ya Yesu kufanya miujiza hii yote mbele yao, bado hawakumwamini.
38 so that the word of Isaiah the prophet that he spoke might be fulfilled: Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
Hili lilikuwa ili kutimiza lile neno la nabii Isaya lililosema: “Bwana, ni nani aliyeamini ujumbe wetu, na mkono wa Bwana umefunuliwa kwa nani?”
39 Because of this they could not believe. Because Isaiah said again,
Kwa hivyo hawakuamini, kwa sababu Isaya anasema mahali pengine:
40 He has blinded their eyes, and has hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be turned, and I would heal them.
“Amewafanya vipofu, na kuifanya mioyo yao kuwa migumu, ili wasiweze kuona kwa macho yao, wala kuelewa kwa mioyo yao, wasije wakageuka nami nikawaponya.”
41 Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory, and spoke about him.
Isaya alisema haya alipoona utukufu wa Yesu na kunena habari zake.
42 Yet, nevertheless, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess, so that they would not become excommunicated from the synagogue,
Lakini wengi miongoni mwa viongozi wa Wayahudi walimwamini, lakini kwa sababu ya Mafarisayo hawakukiri waziwazi kwa maana waliogopa kufukuzwa katika masinagogi.
43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Wao walipenda sifa za wanadamu kuliko sifa zitokazo kwa Mungu.
44 And Jesus cried out and said, He who believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me.
Yesu akapaza sauti akasema, “Yeyote aniaminiye, haniamini mimi peke yangu, bali yeye aliyenituma.
45 And he who sees me sees him who sent me.
Yeyote anionaye mimi, amemwona yeye aliyenituma.
46 I have come a light into the world, so that every man who believes in me may not remain in the darkness.
Mimi nimekuja kama nuru ulimwenguni, ili kwamba kila mtu aniaminiye asibaki gizani.
47 And if any man hears my sayings, and will not believe, I do not judge him, for I came not so that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world.
“Mimi simhukumu mtu yeyote anayesikia maneno yangu na asiyatii, kwa maana sikuja kuuhukumu ulimwengu, bali kuuokoa.
48 He who rejects me and does not receive my sayings, has that which judges him: the word that I spoke, that will judge him in the last day.
Yuko amhukumuye yeye anikataaye mimi na kutokuyapokea maneno yangu, yaani, yale maneno niliyosema yenyewe yatamhukumu siku ya mwisho.
49 Because I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me, he gave me commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
Kwa maana sisemi kwa ajili yangu mwenyewe, bali Baba aliyenituma aliniamuru ni nini cha kusema na jinsi ya kukisema.
