Job 41
1 Can thou draw out leviathan with a fishhook, or press down his tongue with a cord?
“¿Puedes sacar al Leviatán con un anzuelo? o presionar su lengua con una cuerda?
2 Can thou put a rope into his nose, or pierce his jaw through with a hook?
¿Puedes poner una cuerda en su nariz, o atravesar su mandíbula con un gancho?
3 Will he make many supplications to thee? Or will he speak soft words to thee?
Te hará muchas peticiones, ¿o te hablará con palabras suaves?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee, that thou should take him for a servant forever?
Hará un pacto con vosotros, para que lo tomes por siervo para siempre?
5 Will thou play with him as with a bird? Or will thou bind him for thy maidens?
¿Jugarás con él como con un pájaro? ¿O lo atarás para tus chicas?
6 Will the bands make traffic of him? Will they part him among the merchants?
¿Los comerciantes harán un trueque por él? ¿Lo repartirán entre los comerciantes?
7 Can thou fill his skin with barbed irons, or his head with fish-spears?
Puede llenar su piel con hierros de púas, o su cabeza con lanzas de pescado?
8 Lay thy hand upon him. Remember the battle, and do so no more.
Pon tu mano sobre él. Recuerda la batalla, y no lo hagas más.
9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain. Will not a man be cast down even at the sight of him?
He aquí que la esperanza de él es vana. ¿No se abatirá uno incluso al verlo?
10 None is so fierce that he dare stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me?
Nadie es tan feroz que se atreva a agitarlo. ¿Quién es, pues, el que puede presentarse ante mí?
11 Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Under the whole heaven is mine.
¿Quién me ha dado primero, para que yo le pague? Todo bajo el cielo es mío.
12 I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.
“No guardaré silencio sobre sus miembros, ni su poderosa fuerza, ni su buena contextura.
13 Who can strip off his outer garment? Who shall come within his jaws?
¿Quién puede despojarse de su prenda exterior? ¿Quién se acercará a sus fauces?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.
¿Quién puede abrir las puertas de su rostro? Alrededor de sus dientes está el terror.
15 His strong scales are his pride, shut up together like a close seal.
Las fuertes escamas son su orgullo, encerrados juntos con un cierre hermético.
16 One is so near to another that no air can come between them.
Uno está tan cerca de otro, que ningún aire pueda interponerse entre ellos.
17 They are joined one to another. They stick together, so that they cannot be parted.
Están unidos entre sí. Se pegan entre sí, de modo que no se pueden separar.
18 His sneezings flash forth light, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
Su estornudo hace brillar la luz. Sus ojos son como los párpados de la mañana.
19 Out of his mouth go burning torches, and sparks of fire leap forth.
De su boca salen antorchas ardientes. Saltan chispas de fuego.
20 Out of his nostrils a smoke goes, as of a boiling pot and burning rushes.
De sus fosas nasales sale un humo, como de una olla hirviendo sobre un fuego de cañas.
21 His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes forth from his mouth.
Su aliento enciende las brasas. Una llama sale de su boca.
22 In his neck abides strength, and terror dances before him.
Hay fuerza en su cuello. El terror baila ante él.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together. They are firm upon him. They cannot be moved.
Las escamas de su carne están unidas. Son firmes con él. No se pueden mover.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone, Yea, firm as the nether millstone.
Su corazón es firme como una piedra, sí, firme como la piedra de molino inferior.
25 When he raises himself up the mighty are afraid. Because of consternation they are beside themselves.
Cuando se levanta, los poderosos tienen miedo. Se retiran ante su paliza.
26 If a man lays at him with the sword it cannot avail, nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.
Si uno lo ataca con la espada, no puede prevalecer; ni la lanza, ni el dardo, ni el asta puntiaguda.
27 He counts iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
Cuenta el hierro como paja, y el bronce como la madera podrida.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee. Sling-stones are turned into stubble with him.
La flecha no puede hacerle huir. Las piedras de la honda son como la paja para él.
29 Clubs are counted as stubble. He laughs at the rushing of the javelin.
Los palos se cuentan como rastrojos. Se ríe de las prisas de la jabalina.
30 His underparts are like sharp potsherds. He spreads out as a threshing-wagon upon the mire.
Sus partes inferiores son como alfareros afilados, dejando un rastro en el barro como un trineo.
31 He makes the deep to boil like a pot. He makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
Hace que lo profundo hierva como una olla. Hace que el mar sea como un bote de pomada.
32 He makes a path to shine after him. A man would think the deep to be hoary.
Hace brillar un camino tras él. Se diría que el profundo tiene el pelo blanco.
33 Upon earth there is not his like who is made without fear.
En la tierra no hay nada igual, que se hace sin miedo.
34 He beholds everything that is high. He is king over all the sons of pride.
Él ve todo lo que es alto. Es el rey de todos los hijos de la soberbia”.
