Job 31
1 I made a covenant with my eyes. How then should I look upon a virgin?
Fiz concerto com os meus olhos: como pois attentaria n'uma virgem?
2 For what is the portion from God above, and the heritage from the Almighty on high?
Porque qual seria a parte de Deus de cima? ou a herança do Todo-poderoso para mim desde as alturas?
3 Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity?
Porventura não é a perdição para o perverso, o desastre para os que obram iniquidade?
4 Does he not see my ways, and number all my steps?
Ou não vê elle os meus caminhos, e não conta todos os meus passos?
5 If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot has hastened to deceit
Se andei com vaidade, e se o meu pé se apressou para o engano
6 (let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity);
(Pese-me em balanças fieis, e saberá Deus a minha sinceridade),
7 if my step has turned out of the way, and my heart walked after my eyes, and if any spot has clung to my hands,
Se os meus passos se desviavam do caminho, e se o meu coração segue os meus olhos, e se ás minhas mãos se apegou coisa alguma,
8 then let me sow, and let another eat, yea, let the produce of my field be rooted out.
Então semeie eu e outro coma, e seja a minha descendencia arrancada até á raiz.
9 If my heart has been enticed to a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbor's door,
Se o meu coração se deixou seduzir por uma mulher, ou se eu armei traições á porta do meu proximo,
10 then let my wife grind to another, and let others bow down upon her.
Então môa minha mulher para outro, e outros se encurvem sobre ella.
11 For that is a heinous crime, yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.
Porque é uma infamia, e é delicto pertencente aos juizes.
12 For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all my increase.
Porque fogo é que consomem até á perdição, e desarreigaria toda a minha renda.
13 If I have despised the case of my man-servant or of my maid-servant when they contended with me,
Se desprezei o direito do meu servo ou da minha serva, quando elles contendiam comigo,
14 what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him?
Então que faria eu quando Deus se levantasse? e, inquirindo a causa, que lhe responderia?
15 Did not he who made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?
Aquelle que me fez no ventre não o fez tambem a elle? ou não nos formou do mesmo modo na madre?
16 If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,
Se retive o que os pobres desejavam, ou fiz desfallecer os olhos da viuva,
17 or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it
Ou só comi o meu bocado, e o orphão não comeu d'elle
18 (no, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and her I have guided from my mother's womb);
(Porque desde a minha mocidade cresceu comigo como com seu pae, e o guiei desde o ventre de minha mãe),
19 if I have seen any perish for lack of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;
Se a alguem vi perecer por falta de vestido, e ao necessitado por não ter coberta,
20 if his loins have not blessed me, and if he has not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;
Se os seus lombos me não abençoaram, se elle não se aquentava com as pelles dos meus cordeiros,
21 if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate,
Se eu levantei a minha mão contra o orphão, porquanto na porta via a minha ajuda,
22 then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.
Então caia do hombro a minha espadoa, e quebre-se o meu braço do osso.
23 For calamity from God is a terror to me, and I can do nothing because of his majesty.
Porque o castigo de Deus era para mim um assombro, e eu não podia supportar a sua alteza.
24 If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, Thou are my confidence;
Se no oiro puz a minha esperança, ou disse ao oiro fino: Tu és a minha confiança;
25 if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;
Se me alegrei de que era muita a minha fazenda, e de que a minha mão tinha alcançado muito;
26 if I have beheld the sun when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness,
Se olhei para o sol, quando resplandecia, ou para a lua, caminhando gloriosa,
27 and my heart has been secretly enticed, and my mouth has kissed my hand
E o meu coração se deixou enganar em occulto, e a minha bocca beijou a minha mão,
28 (this also is an iniquity to be punished by the judges, for I would have denied the God that is above);
Tambem isto seria delicto pertencente ao juiz: pois assim negaria a Deus que está em cima.
29 if I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him
Se me alegrei da desgraça do que me tem odio, e se eu exultei quando mal o achou
30 (yea, I have not allowed my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse);
(Tambem não deixei peccar o meu paladar, desejando a sua morte com maldição),
31 if the men of my tent have not said, Who can find one who has not been filled with his food?
Se a gente da minha tenda não disse: Ah, quem nos désse da sua carne! nunca nos fartariamos d'ella:
32 (the sojourner has not lodged in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);
O estrangeiro não passava a noite na rua; as minhas portas abria ao viandante.
33 if like Adam I have covered my transgressions by hiding my iniquity in my bosom
Se, como Adão, encobri as minhas transgressões, occultando o meu delicto no meu seio;
34 because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me so that I kept silence, and did not go out of the door-
Porque eu temia a grande multidão, e o desprezo das familias me apavoraria, e eu me calaria, e não sairia da porta.
35 O that I had someone to hear me (Lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me), and that I had the indictment which my adversary has written!
Ah quem me dera um que me ouvisse! eis que o meu intento é que o Todo-poderoso me responda, e que o meu adversario escreva um livro.
36 Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder. I would bind it to me as a crown.
Por certo que o levaria sobre o meu hombro, sobre mim o ataria por corôa.
37 I would declare to him the number of my steps. I would go near to him as a prince.
O numero dos meus passos lhe mostraria: como principe me chegaria a elle.
38 If my land cries out against me, and the furrows of it weep together;
Se a minha terra clamar contra mim, e se os seus regos juntamente chorarem,
39 if I have eaten the fruits of it without money, or have caused the owners of it to lose their lives,
Se comi a sua novidade sem dinheiro, e suffoquei a alma dos seus donos,
40 let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
Por trigo me produza cardos, e por cevada joio. Acabaram-se as palavras de Job.
