Jeremiah 49
1 Concerning the sons of Ammon. Thus says Jehovah: Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then does Malcam possess Gad, and his people dwell in the cities thereof?
Des enfants d'Ammon. Yahvé dit: « Israël n'a-t-il pas de fils? N'a-t-il pas d'héritier? Pourquoi donc Malcam possède-t-il Gad, et son peuple habite dans ses villes?
2 Therefore, behold, the days come, says Jehovah, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire. Then Israel shall possess those who possessed him, says Jehovah.
C'est pourquoi, voici que les jours viennent, » dit Yahvé, « que je ferai entendre une alarme de guerre contre Rabbah des enfants d'Ammon, et elle deviendra un tas de ruines, et ses filles seront brûlées par le feu; alors Israël possédera ceux qui l'ont possédé, » dit Yahvé.
3 Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste. Cry, ye daughters of Rabbah. Gird you with sackcloth. Lament, and run to and fro among the fences. For Malcam shall go into captivity, his priests and his rulers together.
« Gémis, Hesbon, car Aï est dévastée! Pleurez, filles de Rabbah! Habille-toi d'une toile de sac. Se lamenter, et courir d'avant en arrière entre les clôtures; car Malcam ira en captivité, ses prêtres et ses princes ensemble.
4 Why do thou glory in the valleys, thy flowing valley? O backsliding daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come to me?
Pourquoi vous vantez-vous dans les vallées, ta vallée fluide, fille rebelle? Vous avez fait confiance à ses trésors, en disant: « Qui viendra à moi?
5 Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, says the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, from all who are round about thee. And ye shall be driven out every man straight forth, and there shall be none to gather together the fugitives.
Voici, je vais faire venir la terreur sur vous, » dit le Seigneur, Yahvé des Armées, « de tous ceux qui vous entourent. Vous serez tous chassés complètement, et il n'y aura personne pour rassembler les fugitifs.
6 But afterward I will bring back the captivity of the sons of Ammon, says Jehovah.
« Mais ensuite, je renverserai la captivité des enfants d'Ammon, » dit Yahvé.
7 Of Edom. Thus says Jehovah of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?
Sur Edom, Yahvé des Armées dit: « La sagesse n'existe-t-elle plus à Teman? Le conseil a-t-il péri chez les prudents? Leur sagesse a-t-elle disparu?
8 Flee ye, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan. For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I shall visit him.
Fuyez! Faites demi-tour! Habitez dans les profondeurs, habitants de Dedan; car je ferai venir sur lui la calamité d'Ésaü quand je le visiterai.
9 If grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night, would they not destroy till they had enough?
Si des vendangeurs venaient chez vous, ne laisseraient-ils pas quelques raisins à glaner? Si les voleurs venaient la nuit, ne voleraient-ils pas jusqu'à ce qu'ils en aient assez?
10 But I have made Esau bare. I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself. His seed is destroyed, and his brothers, and his neighbors, and he is not.
Mais j'ai dépouillé Ésaü, J'ai découvert ses endroits secrets, et il ne pourra pas se cacher. Sa progéniture est détruite, avec ses frères et ses voisins; et il n'est plus.
11 Leave thy fatherless sons; I will preserve them alive. And let thy widows trust in me.
Laissez vos enfants sans père. Je vais les préserver en vie. Que vos veuves se confient en moi. »
12 For thus says Jehovah: Behold, those to whom it did not pertain to drink of the cup shall assuredly drink. And are thou he who shall go altogether unpunished? Thou shall not go unpunished, but thou shall surely drink.
Car Yahvé dit: « Voici, ceux à qui il n'appartenait pas de boire de la coupe vont certainement boire; et toi, es-tu celui qui restera impuni? Tu ne resteras pas impuni, mais tu boiras certainement.
13 For I have sworn by myself, says Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse, and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.
Car je l'ai juré par moi-même, dit l'Éternel, que Bozra sera un objet d'étonnement, d'opprobre, de désolation et de malédiction. Toutes ses villes seront des ruines perpétuelles. »
14 I have heard news from Jehovah. And an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
J'ai entendu des nouvelles de Yahvé, et un ambassadeur est envoyé parmi les nations, en disant: « Rassemblez-vous! Venez contre elle! Levez-vous pour la bataille! »
15 For, behold, I have made thee small among the nations, and despised among men.
« Car voici, je t'ai rendu petit parmi les nations, et méprisé parmi les hommes.
16 As for thy formidableness, the pride of thy heart has deceived thee, O thou who dwells in the clefts of the rock, who holds the height of the hill. Though thou should make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from there, says Jehovah.
Quant à ta terreur, l'orgueil de ton cœur t'a trompé, O vous qui habitez dans les fentes du rocher, qui détiennent la hauteur de la colline, mais tu devrais faire ton nid aussi haut que l'aigle, Je te ferai descendre de là, dit Yahvé.
17 And Edom shall become an astonishment. Everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues of it.
« Edom deviendra un objet d'étonnement. Tous ceux qui passeront devant seront étonnés, et sifflera à tous ses fléaux.
18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities thereof, says Jehovah, no man shall dwell there, nor shall any son of man sojourn in it.
Comme lors du renversement de Sodome et Gomorrhe et de ses villes voisines, dit Yahvé, « aucun homme n'y habitera, aucun fils de l'homme n'y vivra.
19 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation. For I will suddenly make them run away from it. And he who is chosen, him I will appoint over it. For who is like me, and who will appoint a time for me, and who is the shepherd who will stand before me?
« Voici qu'il monte comme un lion de l'orgueil du Jourdain contre la demeure forte; car je les ferai fuir soudainement, et celui qui est choisi, Je le nommerai à ce poste. Car qui est comme moi? Qui me fixera une heure? Qui est le berger qui se tiendra devant moi? »
20 Therefore hear ye the counsel of Jehovah that he has taken against Edom, and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, even the little ones of the flock. Surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them.
Écoutez donc le conseil de l'Éternel, qu'il a pris contre Édom, et les desseins qu'il a conçus contre les habitants de Teman: Ils vont sûrement les traîner loin, les petits du troupeau. Il fera de leur habitation une désolation.
21 The earth trembles at the noise of their fall. There is a cry; the noise of it is heard in the Red Sea.
La terre tremble au bruit de leur chute; il y a un cri, le bruit que l'on entend dans la Mer Rouge.
22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah. And the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
Voici qu'il s'élève et vole comme l'aigle, et il a déployé ses ailes contre Bozrah. Le cœur des puissants d'Édom, en ce jour, sera comme le cœur d'une femme en proie aux douleurs.
23 Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad, for they have heard evil news. They are melted away. There is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.
de Damas: « Hamath et Arpad sont confondus, car ils ont entendu de mauvaises nouvelles. Ils ont fondu. Il y a du chagrin sur la mer. Ça ne peut pas être tranquille.
24 Damascus has grown feeble. She turns herself to flee, and trembling has seized on her. Anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail.
Damas s'est affaiblie, elle se tourne vers la fuite, et le tremblement l'a saisie. L'angoisse et la tristesse se sont emparées d'elle, comme d'une femme en travail.
25 How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy?
Comment la ville de la louange n'est pas abandonnée, la ville de ma joie?
26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, says Jehovah of hosts.
C'est pourquoi ses jeunes gens tomberont dans ses rues, et tous les hommes de guerre seront réduits au silence en ce jour-là, » dit Yahvé des Armées.
27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.
« Je vais allumer un feu dans la muraille de Damas, et il dévorera les palais de Ben Hadad. »
28 Of Kedar, and of the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote. Thus says Jehovah: Arise ye. Go up to Kedar, and destroy the sons of the east.
Sur Kédar et sur les royaumes de Hatsor, que Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, a frappés, Yahvé dit: « Lève-toi, monte à Kedar, et détruire les enfants de l'est.
29 They shall take their tents and their flocks. They shall carry away for themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels. And they shall cry to them, Terror on every side!
Ils prendront leurs tentes et leurs troupeaux. ils emporteront pour eux-mêmes leurs rideaux, tous leurs vaisseaux, et leurs chameaux; et ils leur crient: « Terreur de tous les côtés!
30 Flee ye. Wander far off. Dwell in the depths, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, says Jehovah. For Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has conceived a purpose against you.
Fuyez! Partez au loin! Habitez dans les profondeurs, habitants de Hatsor, dit Yahvé; « car Nebuchadnezzar, roi de Babylone, a pris conseil contre vous, et a conçu un dessein contre vous.
31 Arise, get you up to a nation that is at ease, that dwells without worry, says Jehovah, that has neither gates nor bars, that dwells alone.
Levez-vous! Montez vers une nation qui est à l'aise, qui habite sans souci », dit Yahvé; « qui n'a ni portes ni barreaux, qui habite seul.
32 And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil. And I will scatter to all winds those who have the corners of their hair cut off. And I will bring their calamity from every side of them, says Jehovah.
Leurs chameaux seront un butin, et la multitude de leur bétail un butin. Je disperserai à tous les vents ceux qui ont les coins de leur barbe coupés; et j'amènerai leur calamité de chaque côté d'eux, » dit Yahvé.
33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling-place of jackals, a desolation forever. No man shall dwell there, nor shall any son of man sojourn therein.
Hatsor sera un repaire de chacals, une désolation pour toujours. Aucun homme n'y habitera, aucun fils de l'homme n'y vivra. »
34 The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,
Parole de Yahvé qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, au sujet d'Élam, au commencement du règne de Sédécias, roi de Juda, en ces termes:
35 Thus says Jehovah of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.
« Yahvé des armées dit: « Voici, je vais briser l'arc d'Elam. le chef de leur force.
36 And upon Elam I will bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds. And there shall be no nation where the outcasts of Elam shall not come.
Je ferai venir sur Élam les quatre vents des quatre coins du ciel, et les dispersera vers tous ces vents. Il n'y aura pas de nation où les parias d'Élam ne viendront pas.
37 And I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before those who seek their life. And I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, says Jehovah. And I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them.
Je ferai en sorte que l'Élam soit consterné devant ses ennemis, et devant ceux qui cherchent leur vie. Je ferai venir sur eux le malheur, mon ardente colère, dit Yahvé; et j'enverrai l'épée après eux, jusqu'à ce que je les aie consommés.
38 And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from there king and rulers, says Jehovah.
Je placerai mon trône en Élam, et je détruirai de là le roi et les princes, dit Yahvé.
39 But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring back the captivity of Elam, says Jehovah.
« Mais cela arrivera dans la suite des temps ». que je renverserai la captivité d'Élam, dit Yahvé. »
