James 3
1 Not many should become teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive greater judgment.
Moji bratje, ne bodite mnogi učitelji, ker veste, da bomo prejeli večjo obsodbo.
2 For we all stumble in many things. If any man does not stumble in word, this is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
Kajti v mnogih stvareh vsi grešimo. Če katerikoli človek ne greši z besedo, je isti popoln mož in tudi zmožen obrzdati celotno telo.
3 Behold we put bits into the mouths of horses for them to obey us, and we guide about their whole body.
Glejte, konjem v usta dajemo žvale, da nas lahko ubogajo in obračamo njihovo celotno telo.
4 Behold also the ships, being so great and driven by fierce winds, are guided about by a very small rudder, wherever the impulse of the man who steers determines.
Glejte tudi ladje, katere, čeprav so tako velike in jih ženejo kruti vetrovi, se vendar obračajo z zelo majhnim krmilom, kamorkoli krmar hoče.
5 So also the tongue is a little body-part, and boasts greatly. Behold a little fire, how much wood it kindles.
Prav tako je jezik majhen ud, pa se baha [z] velikimi stvarmi. Glejte, kako veliko stvar prižge majhen ogenj!
6 And the tongue is a fire, the world of unrighteousness. Thus, the tongue is made to lead among our body-parts, defiling the whole body, and setting the cycle of nature on fire, and being set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
In jezik je ogenj, svet krivičnosti. Tako je jezik med našimi udi, da omadežuje celotno telo in razvnema zakon narave; in ta je vžgan iz pekla. (Geenna g1067)
7 For every species, both of beasts and of birds, both of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by the human species.
Kajti vsaka vrsta, od živali in od ptic in od kač in od stvari v morju, je ukrotljiva in je bila ukročena od človeštva,
8 But no man is able to tame the tongue of men, an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
toda jezika ne more ukrotiti noben človek; je neukrotljivo zlo, polno smrtonosnega strupa.
9 By it we bless the God and Father, and by it we curse men, who were made according to a likeness of God.
Z njim blagoslavljamo Boga, celó Očeta; in z njim preklinjamo ljudi, ki so ustvarjeni po Božji podobnosti.
10 Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and curse. My brothers, these things ought not to happen this way.
Iz istih ust izvirata blagoslavljanje in preklinjanje. Moji bratje, te stvari ne smejo biti takšne.
11 Does the spring pour out from the same opening the sweet and the bitter?
Mar daje studenec na istem mestu sladko in grenko vodo?
12 A fig tree, my brothers, cannot make olives, or a grapevine figs. In the same way, no one spring makes water salty and sweet.
Ali lahko figovo drevo, moji bratje, rodi olive? Ali trta fige? Tako noben studenec ne more dajati obeh, slane in sladke vode.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show from his good behavior his works in meekness of wisdom.
Kdo je med vami moder človek in opremljen s spoznanjem? Naj s krotkostjo modrosti kaže dobro vedênje svojih del.
14 But if ye have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast, and do not lie against the truth.
Toda če imate v svojih srcih grenko zavist in prepir, se ne ponašajte in ne lažite zoper resnico.
15 This wisdom is not descending from above, but is earthly, world-soul, demonic.
Ta modrost se ne spušča od zgoraj, temveč je zemeljska, čutna, vražja.
16 For where envy and selfish ambition are, there is instability and every evil deed.
Kajti kjer sta zavist in prepir, tam je zmešnjava in vsako hudobno delo.
17 But the wisdom from above is indeed first pure, then peaceful, gentle, easily entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and non-hypocritical.
Toda modrost, ki je od zgoraj, je najprej čista, potem mirna, nežna in lahka za ravnanje, polna usmiljenja in dobrih sadov, brez pristranskosti in brez hinavščine.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace to those who make peace.
In sad pravičnosti sejejo v miru tisti, ki delajo mir.
