Genesis 44

1 And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money in his sack's mouth.

Y mandó José al mayordomo de su casa, diciendo: Llene los costales de estos varones de alimentos, cuanto pudieren llevar, y pon el dinero de cada uno en la boca de su costal;

2 And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his grain money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

y pondrás mi copa, la copa de plata, en la boca del costal del menor, con el dinero de su trigo. Y él hizo como dijo José.

3 As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their donkeys.

Venida la mañana, los hombres fueron despedidos con sus asnos.

4 And when they were gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said to his steward, Up, follow after the men, and when thou overtake them, say to them, Why have ye rewarded evil for good?

Saliendo ellos de la ciudad, que aún no se habían alejado, dijo José a su mayordomo: Levántate, y sigue a esos hombres; y cuando los alcanzares, diles: ¿Por qué habéis vuelto mal por bien?

5 Is not this that in which my lord drinks, and how he indeed divines? Ye have done evil in so doing.

¿No es ésta en la que bebe mi señor, y por la que suele adivinar? Habéis hecho mal en lo que hicisteis.

6 And he overtook them, and he spoke to them these words.

Cuando él los alcanzó, les dijo estas palabras.

7 And they said to him, Why does my lord speak such words as these? Far be it from thy servants that they should do such a thing.

Y ellos le respondieron: ¿Por qué dice mi señor tales cosas? Nunca tal hagan tus siervos.

8 Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks' mouths, we brought again to thee out of the land of Canaan. How then would we steal out of thy lord's house silver or gold?

He aquí, el dinero que hallamos en la boca de nuestros costales, te lo volvimos a traer desde la tierra de Canaán; ¿cómo, pues, habíamos de hurtar de casa de tu señor plata ni oro?

9 With whomever of thy servants it be found, let him die, and we also will be my lord's bondmen.

Aquel de tus siervos en quien fuere hallada la copa, que muera, y aun nosotros seremos siervos de mi señor.

10 And he said, Now also let it be according to your words. He with whom it is found shall be my bondman, and ye shall be blameless.

Y él dijo: También ahora sea conforme a vuestras palabras; aquel en quien se hallare, será mi siervo, y vosotros seréis sin culpa.

11 Then they hurried, and took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack.

Ellos entonces se dieron prisa, y derribaron cada uno su costal en tierra, abrieron cada uno su costal.

12 And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left off at the youngest. And the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

Y buscó; desde el mayor comenzó, y acabó en el menor; y la copa fue hallada en el costal de Benjamín.

13 Then they tore their clothes, and every man loaded his donkey, and returned to the city.

Entonces ellos rasgaron sus vestidos, y cargó cada uno su asno, y volvieron a la ciudad.

14 And Judah and his brothers came to Joseph's house. And he was yet there, and they fell before him on the ground.

Y llegó Judá con sus hermanos a casa de José, que aún estaba allí, y se postraron delante de él en tierra.

15 And Joseph said to them, What deed is this that ye have done? Know ye not that such a man as I can indeed divine?

Y les dijo José: ¿Qué obra es ésta que habéis hecho? ¿No sabéis que un hombre como yo sabe adivinar?

16 And Judah said, What shall we say to my lord? What shall we speak, or how shall we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of thy servants. Behold, we are my lord's bondmen, both we, and he also in whose hand the cup is found.

Entonces dijo Judá: ¿Qué diremos a mi señor? ¿Qué hablaremos? ¿O con qué nos justificaremos? Dios ha descubierto la maldad de tus siervos: he aquí, nosotros somos siervos de mi señor, nosotros también, y aquel en cuyo poder fue hallada la copa.

17 And he said, Far be it from me that I should do so. The man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my bondman, but as for you, get you up in peace to your father.

Y él respondió: Nunca yo tal haga; el varón en cuyo poder fue hallada la copa, aquel será mi siervo; vosotros id en paz a vuestro padre.

18 Then Judah came near to him, and said, Oh, my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant, for thou are even as Pharaoh.

Entonces Judá se llegó a él, y dijo: Te ruego señor mío, que hable tu siervo una palabra en oídos de mi señor, y no se encienda tu enojo contra tu siervo, pues que tú eres como el Faraón.

19 My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother?

Mi señor preguntó a sus siervos, diciendo: ¿Tenéis padre o hermano?

20 And we said to my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one. And his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loves him.

Y nosotros respondimos a mi señor: Tenemos un padre anciano, y un joven que le nació en su vejez, pequeño aún; y un hermano suyo murió, y él quedó solo de su madre, y su padre lo ama.

21 And thou said to thy servants, Bring him down to me, that I may set my eyes upon him.

Y tú dijiste a tus siervos: Traédmelo, y pondré mis ojos sobre él.

22 And we said to my lord, The young man cannot leave his father, for if he should leave his father, his father would die.

Y nosotros dijimos a mi señor: El joven no puede dejar a su padre, porque si le dejare, su padre morirá.

23 And thou said to thy servants, Unless your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more.

Y dijiste a tus siervos: Si vuestro hermano menor no descendiere con vosotros, no veáis más mi rostro.

24 And it came to pass when we came up to thy servant my father, we told him the words of my lord.

Aconteció pues, que cuando llegamos a mi padre tu siervo, le contamos las palabras de mi señor.

25 And our father said, Go again, buy us a little food.

Y dijo nuestro padre: Volved a comprarnos un poco de alimento.

26 And we said, We cannot go down. If our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down, for we may not see the man's face unless our youngest brother be with us.

Y nosotros respondimos: No podemos ir; si nuestro hermano fuere con nosotros, iremos; porque no podemos ver el rostro del varón, no estando con nosotros nuestro hermano el menor.

27 And thy servant my father said to us, Ye know that my wife bore me two sons.

Entonces tu siervo mi padre nos dijo: Vosotros sabéis que dos me dio a luz mi mujer;

28 And the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces, and I have not seen him since.

y el uno salió conmigo, y pienso de cierto que fue despedazado, y hasta ahora no le he visto;

29 And if ye take this one also from me, and harm befall him, ye will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

y si tomareis también éste de delante de mí, y le aconteciere algún desastre, haréis descender mis canas con dolor a la sepultura. (Sheol h7585)

30 Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the young man is not with us, since his life is bound up in the young man's life,

Ahora, pues, cuando llegare yo a tu siervo mi padre, y el joven no fuere conmigo, porque su alma está ligada con el alma de él,

31 it will come to pass, when he sees that the young man is not with us, that he will die. And thy servants will bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to Sheol. (Sheol h7585)

sucederá que cuando él no vea al joven, morirá: y tus siervos harán descender las canas de tu siervo nuestro padre con dolor a la sepultura. (Sheol h7585)

32 For thy servant became surety for the young man to my father, saying, If I do not bring him to thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father forever.

Porque tu siervo salió por fiador por el joven con mi padre, diciendo: Si no te lo volviere, entonces yo seré culpable para mi padre todos los días;

33 Now therefore, let thy servant, I pray thee, abide a bondman to my lord instead of the young man, and let the young man go up with his brothers.

te ruego pues que quede ahora tu siervo por el joven por siervo de mi señor, y que el joven vaya con sus hermanos.

34 For how shall I go up to my father, if the young man be not with me? Lest I see the evil that shall come on my father.

Porque ¿cómo iré yo a mi padre sin el joven? No podré, por no ver el mal que sobrevendrá a mi padre.
