Genesis 41
1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed. And, behold, he stood by the river.
Al termine di due anni, il faraone sognò di trovarsi presso il Nilo.
2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, well-favored and fat-fleshed, and they fed in the reed grass.
Ed ecco salirono dal Nilo sette vacche, belle di aspetto e grasse e si misero a pascolare tra i giunchi.
3 And, behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ill-favored and lean-fleshed, and stood by the other cows upon the brink of the river.
Ed ecco, dopo quelle, sette altre vacche salirono dal Nilo, brutte di aspetto e magre, e si fermarono accanto alle prime vacche sulla riva del Nilo.
4 And the ill-favored and lean-fleshed cows ate up the seven well-favored and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.
Ma le vacche brutte di aspetto e magre divorarono le sette vacche belle di aspetto e grasse. E il faraone si svegliò.
5 And he slept and dreamed a second time. And, behold, seven ears of grain came up upon one stalk, fat and good.
Poi si addormentò e sognò una seconda volta: ecco sette spighe spuntavano da un unico stelo, grosse e belle.
6 And, behold, seven ears, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
Ma ecco sette spighe vuote e arse dal vento d'oriente spuntavano dopo quelle.
7 And the thin ears swallowed up the seven fat and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
Le spighe vuote inghiottirono le sette spighe grosse e piene. Poi il faraone si svegliò: era stato un sogno.
8 And it came to pass in the morning, that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men of it. And Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no man who could interpret them to Pharaoh.
Alla mattina il suo spirito ne era turbato, perciò convocò tutti gli indovini e tutti i saggi dell'Egitto. Il faraone raccontò loro il sogno, ma nessuno lo sapeva interpretare al faraone.
9 Then the chief butler spoke to Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day.
Allora il capo dei coppieri parlò al faraone: «Io devo ricordare oggi le mie colpe.
10 Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker.
Il faraone si era adirato contro i suoi servi e li aveva messi in carcere nella casa del capo delle guardie, me e il capo dei panettieri.
11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he, we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
Noi facemmo un sogno nella stessa notte, io e lui; ma avemmo ciascuno un sogno con un significato particolare.
12 And there was a young man with us there, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him. And he interpreted to us our dreams. He interpreted to each man according to his dream.
Ora era là con noi un giovane ebreo, schiavo del capo delle guardie; noi gli raccontammo i nostri sogni ed egli ce li interpretò, dando a ciascuno spiegazione del suo sogno.
13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; he restored me to my office, and he hanged him.
Proprio come ci aveva interpretato, così avvenne: io fui restituito alla mia carica e l'altro fu impiccato».
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph. And they brought him hastily out of the dungeon, and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in to Pharaoh.
Allora il faraone convocò Giuseppe. Lo fecero uscire in fretta dal sotterraneo ed egli si rase, si cambiò gli abiti e si presentò al faraone.
15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no man who can interpret it. And I have heard say of thee, that when thou hear a dream thou can interpret it.
Il faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Ho fatto un sogno e nessuno lo sa interpretare; ora io ho sentito dire di te che ti basta ascoltare un sogno per interpretarlo subito».
16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
Giuseppe rispose al faraone: «Non io, ma Dio darà la risposta per la salute del faraone!».
17 And Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the brink of the river.
Allora il faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Nel mio sogno io mi trovavo sulla riva del Nilo.
18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, fat-fleshed and well-favored, and they fed in the reed grass.
Quand'ecco salirono dal Nilo sette vacche grasse e belle di forma e si misero a pascolare tra i giunchi.
19 And, behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ill-favored and lean-fleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness.
Ed ecco sette altre vacche salirono dopo quelle, deboli, brutte di forma e magre: non ne vidi mai di così brutte in tutto il paese d'Egitto.
20 And the lean and ill-favored cows ate up the first seven fat cows.
Le vacche magre e brutte divorarono le prime sette vacche, quelle grasse.
21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ill-favored, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
Queste entrarono nel loro corpo, ma non si capiva che vi fossero entrate, perché il loro aspetto era brutto come prima. E mi svegliai.
22 And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up upon one stalk, full and good.
Poi vidi nel sogno che sette spighe spuntavano da un solo stelo, piene e belle.
23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them,
Ma ecco sette spighe secche, vuote e arse dal vento d'oriente, spuntavano dopo quelle.
24 and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it to the magicians, but there was no man who could declare it to me.
Le spighe vuote inghiottirono le sette spighe belle. Ora io l'ho detto agli indovini, ma nessuno mi dà la spiegazione».
25 And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one; what God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh.
Allora Giuseppe disse al faraone: «Il sogno del faraone è uno solo: quello che Dio sta per fare, lo ha indicato al faraone.
26 The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.
Le sette vacche belle sono sette anni e le sette spighe belle sono sette anni: è un solo sogno.
27 And the seven lean and ill-favored cows that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind, they shall be seven years of famine.
E le sette vacche magre e brutte, che salgono dopo quelle, sono sette anni e le sette spighe vuote, arse dal vento d'oriente, sono sette anni: vi saranno sette anni di carestia.
28 That is the thing which I spoke to Pharaoh. What God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.
E' appunto ciò che ho detto al faraone: quanto Dio sta per fare, l'ha manifestato al faraone.
29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt,
Ecco stanno per venire sette anni, in cui sarà grande abbondanza in tutto il paese d'Egitto.
30 and there shall arise after them seven years of famine. And all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine shall consume the land.
Poi a questi succederanno sette anni di carestia; si dimenticherà tutta quella abbondanza nel paese d'Egitto e la carestia consumerà il paese.
31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land because of that famine which follows, for it shall be very grievous.
Si dimenticherà che vi era stata l'abbondanza nel paese a causa della carestia venuta in seguito, perché sarà molto dura.
32 And because the dream was doubled to Pharaoh, it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
Quanto al fatto che il sogno del faraone si è ripetuto due volte, significa che la cosa è decisa da Dio e che Dio si affretta ad eseguirla.
33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out for a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
Ora il faraone pensi a trovare un uomo intelligente e saggio e lo metta a capo del paese d'Egitto.
34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.
Il faraone inoltre proceda ad istituire funzionari sul paese, per prelevare un quinto sui prodotti del paese d'Egitto durante i sette anni di abbondanza.
35 And let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and lay up grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.
Essi raccoglieranno tutti i viveri di queste annate buone che stanno per venire, ammasseranno il grano sotto l'autorità del faraone e lo terranno in deposito nelle città.
36 And the food shall be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land not perish through the famine.
Questi viveri serviranno al paese di riserva per i sette anni di carestia che verranno nel paese d'Egitto; così il paese non sarà distrutto dalla carestia».
37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
La cosa piacque al faraone e a tutti i suoi ministri.
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the spirit of God?
Il faraone disse ai ministri: «Potremo trovare un uomo come questo, in cui sia lo spirito di Dio?».
39 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Inasmuch as God has shown thee all of this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou.
Poi il faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Dal momento che Dio ti ha manifestato tutto questo, nessuno è intelligente e saggio come te.
40 Thou shall be over my house, and according to thy word all my people shall be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than thou.
Tu stesso sarai il mio maggiordomo e ai tuoi ordini si schiererà tutto il mio popolo: solo per il trono io sarò più grande di te».
41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
Il faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Ecco, io ti metto a capo di tutto il paese d'Egitto».
42 And Pharaoh took his signet ring from off his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck.
Il faraone si tolse di mano l'anello e lo pose sulla mano di Giuseppe; lo rivestì di abiti di lino finissimo e gli pose al collo un monile d'oro.
43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had, and they cried before him, Bow the knee. And he set him over all the land of Egypt.
Poi lo fece montare sul suo secondo carro e davanti a lui si gridava: «Abrech». E così lo si stabilì su tutto il paese d'Egitto.
44 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee no man shall lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.
Poi il faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Sono il faraone, ma senza il tuo permesso nessuno potrà alzare la mano o il piede in tutto il paese d'Egitto».
45 And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-paneah, and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Poti-phera priest of On, for a wife. And Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.
E il faraone chiamò Giuseppe Zafnat-Paneach e gli diede in moglie Asenat, figlia di Potifera, sacerdote di On. Giuseppe uscì per tutto il paese d'Egitto.
46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
Giuseppe aveva trent'anni quando si presentò al faraone re d'Egitto. Poi Giuseppe si allontanò dal faraone e percorse tutto il paese d'Egitto.
47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.
Durante i sette anni di abbondanza la terra produsse a profusione.
48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities. The food of the field, which was round about every city, he laid up in the same.
Egli raccolse tutti i viveri dei sette anni, nei quali vi era stata l'abbondanza nel paese d'Egitto, e ripose i viveri nelle città, cioè in ogni città ripose i viveri della campagna circostante.
49 And Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left off numbering, for it was without number.
Giuseppe ammassò il grano come la sabbia del mare, in grandissima quantità, così che non se ne fece più il computo, perché era incalcolabile.
50 And two sons were born to Joseph before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.
Intanto nacquero a Giuseppe due figli, prima che venisse l'anno della carestia; glieli partorì Asenat, figlia di Potifera, sacerdote di On.
51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, for God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.
Giuseppe chiamò il primogenito Manasse, «perché - disse - Dio mi ha fatto dimenticare ogni affanno e tutta la casa di mio padre».
52 And the name of the second he called Ephraim, for God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.
E il secondo lo chiamò Efraim, «perché - disse - Dio mi ha reso fecondo nel paese della mia afflizione».
53 And the seven years of plenty, that was in the land of Egypt, came to an end.
Poi finirono i sette anni di abbondanza nel paese d'Egitto
54 And the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said. And there was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
e cominciarono i sette anni di carestia, come aveva detto Giuseppe. Ci fu carestia in tutti i paesi, ma in tutto l'Egitto c'era il pane.
55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. And Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do.
Poi tutto il paese d'Egitto cominciò a sentire la fame e il popolo gridò al faraone per avere il pane. Allora il faraone disse a tutti gli Egiziani: «Andate da Giuseppe; fate quello che vi dirà».
56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth. And Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians. And the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.
La carestia dominava su tutta la terra. Allora Giuseppe aprì tutti i depositi in cui vi era grano e vendette il grano agli Egiziani, mentre la carestia si aggravava in Egitto.
57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, because the famine was severe on all the earth.
E da tutti i paesi venivano in Egitto per acquistare grano da Giuseppe, perché la carestia infieriva su tutta la terra.
