Genesis 41
1 And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed. And, behold, he stood by the river.
Après un intervalle de deux années, Pharaon eut un songe, où il se voyait debout au bord du fleuve.
2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, well-favored and fat-fleshed, and they fed in the reed grass.
Et voici que du fleuve sortaient sept vaches belles et grasses, qui se mirent à paître dans l’herbage;
3 And, behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ill-favored and lean-fleshed, and stood by the other cows upon the brink of the river.
puis sept autres vaches sortirent du fleuve après elles, celles là chétives et maigres et s’arrêtèrent près des premières au bord du fleuve;
4 And the ill-favored and lean-fleshed cows ate up the seven well-favored and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.
et les vaches chétives et maigres dévorèrent les sept vaches belles et grasses. Alors Pharaon s’éveilla.
5 And he slept and dreamed a second time. And, behold, seven ears of grain came up upon one stalk, fat and good.
Il se rendormit et eut un nouveau songe. Voici que sept épis, pleins et beaux, s’élevaient sur une seule tige;
6 And, behold, seven ears, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
puis sept épis maigres et flétris par le vent d’est, s’élevèrent après eux,
7 And the thin ears swallowed up the seven fat and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
et ces épis maigres engloutirent les sept épis grenus et pleins. Pharaon s’éveilla et c’était un songe.
8 And it came to pass in the morning, that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men of it. And Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no man who could interpret them to Pharaoh.
Mais, le matin venu, son esprit en fut troublé et il manda tous les magiciens de l’Égypte et tous ses savants. Pharaon leur exposa son rêve, mais nul ne put lui en expliquer le sens.
9 Then the chief butler spoke to Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day.
Alors le maître échanson parla devant Pharaon en ces termes: "Je rappelle, en cette occasion, mes fautes.
10 Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker.
Un jour, Pharaon était irrité contre ses serviteurs; et il nous fit enfermer dans la maison du chef des gardes, moi et le maître panetier.
11 And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he, we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
Nous eûmes un rêve la même nuit, lui et moi, chacun selon le pronostic de son rêve.
12 And there was a young man with us there, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him. And he interpreted to us our dreams. He interpreted to each man according to his dream.
Là était avec nous un jeune hébreu, esclave du chef des gardes. Nous lui racontâmes nos songes et il nous les interpréta, à chacun selon le sens du sien.
13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; he restored me to my office, and he hanged him.
Or, comme il nous avait pronostiqué, ainsi fut-il: moi, je fus rétabli dans mon poste et lui on le pendit."
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph. And they brought him hastily out of the dungeon, and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in to Pharaoh.
Pharaon envoya quérir Joseph, qu’on fit sur le champ sortir de la geôle; il se rasa et changea de vêtements, puis il parut devant Pharaon.
15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no man who can interpret it. And I have heard say of thee, that when thou hear a dream thou can interpret it.
Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: "J’Ai eu un songe et nul ne l’explique; mais j’ai ouï dire, quant à toi, que tu entends l’art d’interpréter un songe."
16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
Joseph répondit à Pharaon en disant: "Ce n’est pas moi, c’est Dieu, qui saura tranquilliser Pharaon."
17 And Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the brink of the river.
Alors Pharaon parla ainsi à Joseph: "Dans mon songe, je me tenais au bord du fleuve.
18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven cows, fat-fleshed and well-favored, and they fed in the reed grass.
Et voici que du fleuve sortirent sept vaches grasses et de belle taille, qui vinrent paître dans l’herbage;
19 And, behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and very ill-favored and lean-fleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness.
puis sept autres vaches les suivirent, maigres, d’apparence fort chétive et toutes décharnées: je n’en ai point vu d’aussi misérables dans tout le pays d’Égypte.
20 And the lean and ill-favored cows ate up the first seven fat cows.
Ces vaches maigres et chétives dévorèrent les sept premières vaches, les grasses.
21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ill-favored, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
Celles ci donc passèrent dans leur corps, mais on ne se serait pas douté qu’elles y eussent passé: elles étaient chétives comme auparavant. Je m’éveillai.
22 And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up upon one stalk, full and good.
Puis je vis en songe sept épis, s’élevant sur une même tige, pleins et beaux;
23 And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them,
ensuite sept épis secs, maigres, brûlés par le vent d’est, s’élevèrent après eux,
24 and the thin ears swallowed up the seven good ears. And I told it to the magicians, but there was no man who could declare it to me.
et ces épis maigres absorbèrent les sept beaux épis. Je l’ai raconté aux magiciens et nul ne me l’a expliqué."
25 And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one; what God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh.
Joseph dit à Pharaon: "Le songe de Pharaon est un: ce que Dieu prépare, il l’a annoncé à Pharaon.
26 The seven good cows are seven years, and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.
Les sept belles vaches, ce sont sept années; les sept beaux épis, sept années: c’est un même songe.
27 And the seven lean and ill-favored cows that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind, they shall be seven years of famine.
Et les sept vaches maigres et laides qui sont sorties en second lieu, sept années, de même que les sept épis vides frappés par le vent d’est. Ce seront sept années de famine.
28 That is the thing which I spoke to Pharaoh. What God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.
C’Est bien ce que je disais à Pharaon ce que Dieu prépare, il l’a révélé à Pharaon.
29 Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt,
Oui, sept années vont venir, abondance extraordinaire dans tout le territoire d’Égypte.
30 and there shall arise after them seven years of famine. And all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine shall consume the land.
Mais sept années de disette surgiront après elles et toute abondance disparaîtra dans le pays d’Égypte et la famine épuisera le pays.
31 And the plenty shall not be known in the land because of that famine which follows, for it shall be very grievous.
Le souvenir de l’abondance sera effacé dans le pays par cette famine qui surviendra, car elle sera excessive.
32 And because the dream was doubled to Pharaoh, it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
Et si le songe s’est reproduit à Pharaon par deux fois, c’est que la chose est arrêtée devant Dieu, c’est que Dieu est sur le point de l’accomplir.
33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out for a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
Donc, que Pharaon choisisse un homme prudent et sage et qu’il le prépose au pays d’Égypte.
34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plentiful years.
Que Pharaon avise à ce qu’on établisse des commissaires dans le pays et qu’on impose d’un cinquième le territoire d’Égypte durant les sept années d’abondance.
35 And let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and lay up grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.
Qu’on amasse toute la nourriture de ces années fertiles qui approchent; qu’on emmagasine du blé sous la main de Pharaon, pour l’approvisionnement des villes et qu’on le tienne en réserve.
36 And the food shall be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt, that the land not perish through the famine.
Ces provisions seront une ressource pour le pays, lors des sept années de disette qui surviendront en Égypte, afin que ce pays ne périsse pas par la famine."
37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
Ce discours plut à Pharaon et à tous ses serviteurs.
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the spirit of God?
Et Pharaon dit à ses serviteurs: "Pourrions-nous trouver un homme tel que celui-ci, plein de l’esprit de Dieu?"
39 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, Inasmuch as God has shown thee all of this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou.
Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Puisque Dieu t’a révélé tout cela, nul n’est sage et entendu comme toi.
40 Thou shall be over my house, and according to thy word all my people shall be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than thou.
C’Est toi qui sera le chef de ma maison; tout mon peuple sera gouverné par ta parole et je n’aurai sur toi que la prééminence du trône."
41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Vois! je te mets à la tête de tout le pays d’Égypte."
42 And Pharaoh took his signet ring from off his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck.
Et Pharaon ôta son anneau de sa main et le passa à celle de Joseph; il le fit habiller de byssus et suspendit le collier d’or de son cou.
43 And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had, and they cried before him, Bow the knee. And he set him over all the land of Egypt.
Il le fit monter sur son second char; on cria devant lui: Abrêk et il fut installé chef de tout le pays d’Égypte.
44 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee no man shall lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.
Pharaon dit à Joseph: "Je suis le Pharaon; mais, sans ton ordre, nul ne remuera la main ni le pied dans tout le pays d’Égypte."
45 And Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-paneah, and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Poti-phera priest of On, for a wife. And Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.
Pharaon surnomma Joseph Çâfenath Panéah et il lui donna pour femme Asenath, fille de Pôti Féra, prêtre d’On. Joseph fit une excursion dans le pays d’Égypte.
46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
Or, Joseph avait trente ans lorsqu’il parut devant Pharaon, roi d’Egypte. Joseph, étant sorti de devant Pharaon, parcourut tout le pays d’Egypte.
47 And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.
La terre, pendant les sept années de fertilité, produisit d’abondantes moissons.
48 And he gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities. The food of the field, which was round about every city, he laid up in the same.
On amassa toutes les denrées des sept années, qui se trouvèrent dans le pays d’Égypte et l’on approvisionna les villes: on mit dans chaque ville les denrées des campagnes d’alentour.
49 And Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left off numbering, for it was without number.
Et Joseph fit des amas de blé considérables comme le sable de la mer; tellement qu’on cessa de le compter, car c’était incalculable.
50 And two sons were born to Joseph before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.
Or, il naquit à Joseph, avant qu’arrivât la période de disette, deux fils, que lui donna Asenath, fille de Pôti Féra, prêtre d’On.
51 And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, for God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house.
Joseph appela le premier né Manassé: "Car Dieu m’a fait oublier toutes mes tribulations et toute la maison de mon père."
52 And the name of the second he called Ephraim, for God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.
Au second, il donna le nom d’Éphraïm: "Car Dieu m’a fait fructifier dans le pays de ma misère."
53 And the seven years of plenty, that was in the land of Egypt, came to an end.
Quand furent écoulées les sept années de l’abondance qui régnait dans le pays d’Égypte,
54 And the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said. And there was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
survinrent les sept années dedisette, comme l’avait prédit Joseph. II y eut famine dans tous les pays, mais dans tout le pays d’Égypte il y avait du pain.
55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. And Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; what he says to you, do.
Tout le territoire égyptien étant affligé par la disette, le peuple demanda à grands cris, à Pharaon, du pain. Mais Pharaon répondit à tous les Égyptiens: "Allez à Joseph; ce qu’il vous dira, vous le ferez."
56 And the famine was over all the face of the earth. And Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians. And the famine was severe in the land of Egypt.
Comme la famine régnait sur toute la contrée, Joseph ouvrit tous les greniers et vendit du blé aux Égyptiens. La famine persista dans le pays d’Égypte.
57 And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, because the famine was severe on all the earth.
De tous les pays on venait en Égypte pour acheter à Joseph, car la famine était grande dans toute la contrée.
