Genesis 13
1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South.
アブラムは妻とすべての持ち物を携え、エジプトを出て、ネゲブに上った。ロトも彼と共に上った。
2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
アブラムは家畜と金銀に非常に富んでいた。
3 And he went on his journeys from the South even to Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,
彼はネゲブから旅路を進めてベテルに向かい、ベテルとアイの間の、さきに天幕を張った所に行った。
4 to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first. And Abram called on the name of Jehovah there.
すなわち彼が初めに築いた祭壇の所に行き、その所でアブラムは主の名を呼んだ。
5 And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
アブラムと共に行ったロトも羊、牛および天幕を持っていた。
6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together. For their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.
その地は彼らをささえて共に住ませることができなかった。彼らの財産が多かったため、共に住めなかったのである。
7 And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite then dwelt in the land.
アブラムの家畜の牧者たちとロトの家畜の牧者たちの間に争いがあった。そのころカナンびととペリジびとがその地に住んでいた。
8 And Abram said to Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen, for we are brothers.
アブラムはロトに言った、「わたしたちは身内の者です。わたしとあなたの間にも、わたしの牧者たちとあなたの牧者たちの間にも争いがないようにしましょう。
9 Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me. If the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if the right hand, then I will go to the left.
全地はあなたの前にあるではありませんか。どうかわたしと別れてください。あなたが左に行けばわたしは右に行きます。あなたが右に行けばわたしは左に行きましょう」。
10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before Jehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as thou go to Zoar.
ロトが目を上げてヨルダンの低地をあまねく見わたすと、主がソドムとゴモラを滅ぼされる前であったから、ゾアルまで主の園のように、またエジプトの地のように、すみずみまでよく潤っていた。
11 So Lot chose for himself all the Plain of the Jordan. And Lot journeyed east, and they separated themselves the one from the other.
そこでロトはヨルダンの低地をことごとく選びとって東に移った。こうして彼らは互に別れた。
12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan. And Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.
アブラムはカナンの地に住んだが、ロトは低地の町々に住み、天幕をソドムに移した。
13 Now the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinners against Jehovah.
ソドムの人々はわるく、主に対して、はなはだしい罪びとであった。
14 And Jehovah said to Abram, after Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou are, northward and southward and eastward and westward.
ロトがアブラムに別れた後に、主はアブラムに言われた、「目をあげてあなたのいる所から北、南、東、西を見わたしなさい。
15 For all the land which thou see, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed forever.
すべてあなたが見わたす地は、永久にあなたとあなたの子孫に与えます。
16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth. So that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then may thy seed also be numbered.
わたしはあなたの子孫を地のちりのように多くします。もし人が地のちりを数えることができるなら、あなたの子孫も数えられることができましょう。
17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it, for to thee I will give it.
あなたは立って、その地をたてよこに行き巡りなさい。わたしはそれをあなたに与えます」。
18 And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to Jehovah.
アブラムは天幕を移してヘブロンにあるマムレのテレビンの木のかたわらに住み、その所で主に祭壇を築いた。
