Genesis 11
1 And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
Hele Menneskeheden havde eet Tungemaal og samme Sprog.
2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
Da de nu drog østerpaa, traf de paa en Dal i Sinear, og der slog de sig ned.
3 And they said one to another, Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had slime for mortar.
Da sagde de til hverandre: »Kom, lad os stryge Teglsten og brænde dem godt!« De brugte nemlig Tegl som Sten og Jordbeg som Kalk.
4 And they said, Come, let us build a city for us, and a tower, and its top in the heavens. And let us make a name for us, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
Derpaa sagde de: »Kom, lad os bygge os en By og et Taarn, hvis Top naar til Himmelen, og skabe os et Navn, for at vi ikke skal spredes ud over hele Jorden!«
5 And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men built.
Men HERREN steg ned for at se Byen og Taarnet, som Menneskebørnene byggede,
6 And Jehovah said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. And now nothing will be withheld from them, which they propose to do.
og han sagde: »Se, de er eet Folk og har alle eet Tungemaal; og naar de nu først er begyndt saaledes, er intet, som de sætter sig for, umuligt for dem;
7 Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand each other's speech.
lad os derfor stige ned og forvirre deres Tungemaal der, saa de ikke forstaar hverandres Tungemaal!«
8 So Jehovah scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.
Da spredte HERREN dem fra det Sted ud over hele Jorden, og de opgav at bygge Byen.
9 Therefore the name of it was called Babel, because Jehovah there confounded the language of all the earth, and from there Jehovah scattered them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Derfor kaldte man den Babel, thi der forvirrede HERREN al Jordens Tungemaal, og derfra spredte HERREN dem ud over hele Jorden.
10 These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.
Dette er Sems Slægtebog. Da Sem var 100 Aar gammel, avlede han Arpaksjad, to Aar efter Vandfloden;
11 And Shem lived five hundred years after he begot Arphaxad, and begot sons and daughters.
og efter at Sem havde avlet Arpaksjad, levede han 500 Aar og avlede Sønner og Døtre.
12 And Arphaxad lived a hundred and thirty-five years, and begot Cainan.
Da Arpaksjad havde levet 35 Aar, avlede han Sjela;
13 And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Cainan, four hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died. And Cainan lived a hundred and thirty years and begot Shelah; and Cainan lived after he had begotten Shelah, three hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
og efter at Arpaksjad havde avlet Sjela, levede han 403 Aar og avlede Sønner og Døtre.
14 And Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.
Da Sjela havde levet 30 Aar, avlede han Eber;
15 And Shelah lived four hundred and three years after he begot Eber, and begot sons and daughters.
og efter at Sjela havde avlet Eber, levede han 403 Aar og avlede Sønner og Døtre.
16 And Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.
Da Eber havde levet 34 Aar, avlede han Peleg;
17 And Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after he begot Peleg, and begot sons and daughters.
og efter at Eber havde avlet Peleg, levede han 430 Aar og avlede Sønner og Døtre.
18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
Da Peleg havde levet 30 Aar, avlede han Re'u;
19 And Peleg lived two hundred and nine years after he begot Reu, and begot sons and daughters.
og efter at Peleg havde avlet Re'u, levede han 209 Aar og avlede Sønner og Døtre.
20 And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.
Da Re'u havde levet 32 Aar, avlede han Serug;
21 And Reu lived two hundred and seven years after he begot Serug, and begot sons and daughters.
og efter at Re'u havde avlet Serug, levede han 207 Aar og avlede Sønner og Døtre.
22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.
Da Serug havde levet 30 Aar, avlede han Nakor;
23 And Serug lived two hundred years after he begot Nahor, and begot sons and daughters.
og efter at Serug havde avlet Nakor, levede han 200 Aar og avlede Sønner og Døtre.
24 And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.
Da Nakor havde levet 29 Aar, avlede han Tara;
25 And Nahor lived a hundred and nineteen years after he begot Terah, and begot sons and daughters.
og efter at Nakor havde avlet Tara, levede han 119 Aar og avlede Sønner og Døtre.
26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
Da Tara havde levet 70 Aar, avlede han Abram, Nakor og Haran.
27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran begot Lot.
Dette er Taras Slægtebog. Tara avlede Abram, Nakor og Haran. Haran avlede Lot.
28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
Haran døde i sin Fader Taras Levetid i sin Hjemstavn i Ur Kasdim.
29 And Abram and Nahor took wives to themselves. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
Abram og Nakor tog sig Hustruer; Abrams Hustru hed Saraj, Nakors Milka, en Datter af Haran, Milkas og Jiskas Fader.
30 And Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Men Saraj var ufrugtbar og havde ingen Børn.
31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife. And they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. And they came to Haran, and dwelt there.
Tara tog sin Søn Abram, sin Sønnesøn Lot, Harans Søn, og sin Sønnekone Saraj, hans Søn Abrams Hustru, og førte dem fra Ur Kasdim for at begive sig til Kana'ans Land; men da de kom til Karan, slog de sig ned der.
32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years, and Terah died in Haran.
Taras Levetid var 205 Aar; og Tara døde i Karan.
