< Galatians 5 >

1 Stand firm therefore in the liberty in which Christ freed us, and be not entangled again in a yoke of bondage.
Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
2 Behold, I Paul say to you, that if ye are circumcised, Christ will benefit you nothing.
Behold, I, Paul, tell you that if you receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing.
3 And I solemnly declare again to every man who is circumcised, that he is obligated to do the whole law.
Yes, I testify again to every man who receives circumcision that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
4 Ye were discharged from the Christ, ye who are made righteous by law. Ye have fallen from grace.
You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace.
5 For we through Spirit, from faith, wait for a hope of righteousness.
For we through the Spirit, by faith wait for the hope of righteousness.
6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision amounts to anything, but faith working through love.
7 Ye were running well. Who hindered you, not to obey the truth?
You were running well! Who interfered with you that you should not obey the truth?
8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you.
This persuasion is not from him who calls you.
9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
A little yeast grows through the whole lump.
10 I have confidence toward you in the Lord, that ye will think no other thing. But the man who troubles you will bear the verdict, whoever he may be.
I have confidence toward you in the Lord that you will think no other way. But he who troubles you will bear his judgment, whoever he is.
11 But I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling-block of the cross has been abolished.
But I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been removed.
12 O that those who trouble you would even cut it all off.
I wish that those who disturb you would cut themselves off.
13 For ye, brothers, were called to liberty, only not liberty for an opportunity to the flesh, but be servants to each other through love.
For you, brothers, were called for freedom. Only don’t use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love be servants to one another.
14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself.
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 But if ye bite and devour each other, watch out that ye be not consumed by each other.
But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you don’t consume one another.
16 But I say, walk in Spirit and ye will, no, not fulfill a lust of flesh.
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit is against the flesh. For these are hostile to each other, so that whatever these things are ye may want, ye may not do.
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire.
18 But if ye are led by Spirit ye are not under law.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are apparent, which are, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness,
Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strifes, jealousies, wraths, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,
idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies,
21 envyings, murders, intoxications, revelings, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, as I also did forewarn, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these; of which I forewarn you, even as I also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,
23 meekness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 And those of the Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and the lusts.
Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.
25 If we live in Spirit, we should also march in Spirit.
If we live by the Spirit, let’s also walk by the Spirit.
26 Let us not become conceited, provoking each other, envying each other.
Let’s not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another.
