Exodus 3

1 Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.

Moses aber hütete die Schafe seines Schwiegervaters Jetro, des Priesters von Midian. Da trieb er einmal die Schafe nach der Wüste und kam zu dem Gottesberg, an den Horeb.

2 And the agent of Jehovah appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. And he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

Da erschien ihm der Engel des Herrn mitten im Feuer aus dem Dornbusch heraus. Er sah hin: Der Dombusch brannte in Feuer; aber der Dornbusch ward nicht verzehrt.

3 And Moses said, I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

Da sprach Moses: "Ich will doch hingehen, diese großartige Erscheinung zu betrachten, warum der Dornbusch nicht verbrennt."

4 And when Jehovah saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here I am.

Als der Herr sah, daß er herüberkam, um aufzuschauen, da rief ihn Gott aus dem Dornbusche an und sprach: "Moses! Moses!" Er sprach: "Hier bin ich."

5 And he said, Do not draw near here. Put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place on which thou stand is holy ground.

Er sprach: "Komm nicht näher! Streif deine Schuhe von den Füßen! Denn der Ort, auf dem du stehst, ist heiliger Boden."

6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.

Und er sprach: "Ich bin der Schutzgott deiner Väter, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs." Da verbarg Moses sein Antlitz; denn er scheute sich, auf Gott zu blicken.

7 And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

Der Herr aber sprach: "Die Quälung meines Volkes in Ägypten habe ich wohl bemerkt und sein Schreien über seine Fronvögte gehört. Ich kenne seine Leiden.

8 And I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

So fuhr ich denn herab, es aus Ägyptens Hand zu lösen und es aus diesem Lande hinaufzuführen in ein Land, trefflich und weit, in ein Land, das von Milch und Honig fließt, zu dem Sitze der Kanaaniter und Chittiter, der Amoriter, Periziter, Chiwiter und Jebusiter.

9 And now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

Nun ist das Geschrei der Söhne Israels zu mir gedrungen, und ich habe die Quälerei gesehen, mit der die Ägypter sie quälen.

10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee to Pharaoh, that thou may bring forth my people the sons of Israel out of Egypt.

So geh! Ich sende dich zu Pharao. Und führe mein Volk, die Söhne Israels, aus Ägypten!"

11 And Moses said to God, Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the sons of Israel out of Egypt?

Moses aber sprach zu Gott: "Wer bin ich, daß ich zu Pharao gehe und die Söhne Israels aus Ägypten führe?"

12 And he said, I will certainly be with thee. And this shall be the sign to thee, that I have sent thee: When thou have brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

Er sprach: "Ich selber werde ja mit dir sein. Dies sei für dich das Zeichen, daß ich dich sende. Führst du das Volk aus Ägypten, dann feiert ihr auf diesem Berge ein Fest zu Gottes Ehren."

13 And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the sons of Israel, and shall say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say to them?

Da sprach Moses zu Gott: "Ich komme also zu den Söhnen Israels und sage ihnen: 'Der Schutzgott eurer Väter schickt mich zu euch.' Wenn sie mich fragen: 'Was ist es um seinen Namen?' was soll ich ihnen sagen?"

14 And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. And he said, Thus shall thou say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.

Da sprach Gott zu Moses: "Ich bin der 'Ich bin'." Und er sprach: "So sollst du zu den Söhnen Israels sprechen: 'Der "Ich bin" hat mich zu euch gesandt.'"

15 And God said moreover to Moses, Thus shall thou say to the sons of Israel, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.

Und weiter sprach Gott zu Moses: "So sollst du zu den Söhnen Israels sprechen: 'Der Herr, der Schutzgott eurer Väter, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs, schickt mich zu euch.' Für ewig ist dies mein Name und dies für alle Geschlechter meine Bezeichnung.

16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt.

Geh! Versammle die Ältesten in Israel und sprich zu ihnen: Der Herr, der Schutzgott eurer Väter, ist mir erschienen, der Gott Abrahams, Isaaks und Jakobs, mit der Zusage: Ich achte genau auf euch und auf das, was euch in Ägypten geschieht.

17 And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, to a land flowing with milk and honey.

Und ich sage nun: Ich führe euch aus Ägyptens Elend weg in das Land der Kanaaniter, Chittiter, Amoriter, Periziter, Chiwiter und Jebusiter, in ein Land, von Milch und Honig fließend.

18 And they shall hearken to thy voice. And thou shall come, thou and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and ye shall say to him, Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. And now let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to Jehovah our God.

Und hören sie auf dich und kommst du mit den Ältesten Israels zum König von Ägypten, dann sagt ihr zu ihm: 'Der Herr, der Schutzgott der Hebräer, ist uns begegnet. Nun möchten wir drei Tagereisen in die Wüste ziehen und dort dem Herrn, unserem Gott, opfern.'

19 And I know that the king of Egypt will not give you leave to go, no, not by a mighty hand.

Ich aber weiß, daß nur unter starkem Druck Ägyptens König euch ziehen läßt.

20 And I will put forth my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst of it, and after that he will let you go.

So recke ich denn meine Hand aus und schlage Ägypten mit all meinen Wundem, die ich darin wirken werde. Daraufhin läßt er euch ziehen.

21 And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. And it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty.

Und ich verschaffe diesem Volke bei den Ägyptern Wohlwollen, daß ihr nicht leer abzieht, wenn ihr geht.

22 But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, and of her who sojourns in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment. And ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters, and ye shall despoil the Egyptians.

Die Weiber sollen sich von ihren Nachbarinnen und von ihren Hausgenossinnen Gold- und Silberschmuck ausbitten und Gewände! Dann legt sie euren Söhnen und Töchtern an und gewinnt so die Ägypter!"
