Ecclesiastes 10
1 Dead flies cause the oil of the perfumer to send forth an evil odor, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
१मरी हुई मक्खियों के कारण गंधी का तेल सड़ने और दुर्गन्ध आने लगता है; और थोड़ी सी मूर्खता बुद्धि और प्रतिष्ठा को घटा देती है।
2 A wise man's heart is at his right hand, but a fool's heart at his left.
२बुद्धिमान का मन उचित बात की ओर रहता है परन्तु मूर्ख का मन उसके विपरीत रहता है।
3 Yea also, when the fool walks by the way, his understanding fails him, and he says to everyone that he is a fool.
३वरन् जब मूर्ख मार्ग पर चलता है, तब उसकी समझ काम नहीं देती, और वह सबसे कहता है, ‘मैं मूर्ख हूँ।’
4 If the spirit of the ruler rises up against thee, leave not thy place, for deference allays great offenses.
४यदि हाकिम का क्रोध तुझ पर भड़के, तो अपना स्थान न छोड़ना, क्योंकि धीरज धरने से बड़े-बड़े पाप रुकते हैं।
5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as it were an error which proceeds from the ruler:
५एक बुराई है जो मैंने सूर्य के नीचे देखी, वह हाकिम की भूल से होती है:
6 Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in a low place.
६अर्थात् मूर्ख बड़ी प्रतिष्ठा के स्थानों में ठहराए जाते हैं, और धनवान लोग नीचे बैठते हैं।
7 I have seen servants upon horses, and rulers walking like servants upon the earth.
७मैंने दासों को घोड़ों पर चढ़े, और रईसों को दासों के समान भूमि पर चलते हुए देखा है।
8 He who digs a pit shall fall into it, and he who breaks through a wall, a serpent shall bite him.
८जो गड्ढा खोदे वह उसमें गिरेगा और जो बाड़ा तोड़े उसको सर्प डसेगा।
9 He who hews out stones shall be hurt therewith, and he who splits wood is endangered thereby.
९जो पत्थर फोड़े, वह उनसे घायल होगा, और जो लकड़ी काटे, उसे उसी से डर होगा।
10 If the iron be blunt, and he does not whet the edge, then he must increase strength. But wisdom is advantageous to make right.
१०यदि कुल्हाड़ा थोथा हो और मनुष्य उसकी धार को पैनी न करे, तो अधिक बल लगाना पड़ेगा; परन्तु सफल होने के लिये बुद्धि से लाभ होता है।
11 If the serpent bites before it is charmed, then is there no advantage in the charmer.
११यदि मंत्र से पहले सर्प डसे, तो मंत्र पढ़नेवाले को कुछ भी लाभ नहीं।
12 The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow himself up.
१२बुद्धिमान के वचनों के कारण अनुग्रह होता है, परन्तु मूर्ख अपने वचनों के द्वारा नाश होते हैं।
13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness, and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
१३उसकी बात का आरम्भ मूर्खता का, और उनका अन्त दुःखदाई बावलापन होता है।
14 A fool also multiplies words; yet man knows not what shall be, and that which shall be after him, who can tell him?
१४मूर्ख बहुत बातें बढ़ाकर बोलता है, तो भी कोई मनुष्य नहीं जानता कि क्या होगा, और कौन बता सकता है कि उसके बाद क्या होनेवाला है?
15 The labor of fools wearies every one of them, for he knows not how to go to the city.
१५मूर्ख को परिश्रम से थकावट ही होती है, यहाँ तक कि वह नहीं जानता कि नगर को कैसे जाए।
16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy rulers feast in the morning!
१६हे देश, तुझ पर हाय जब तेरा राजा लड़का है और तेरे हाकिम प्रातःकाल भोज करते हैं!
17 Happy are thou, O land, when thy king is the son of noble men, and thy rulers feast in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
१७हे देश, तू धन्य है जब तेरा राजा कुलीन है; और तेरे हाकिम समय पर भोज करते हैं, और वह भी मतवाले होने को नहीं, वरन् बल बढ़ाने के लिये!
18 By slothfulness the roof sinks in, and through idleness of the hands the house leaks.
१८आलस्य के कारण छत की कड़ियाँ दब जाती हैं, और हाथों की सुस्ती से घर चूता है।
19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes glad the life, and money answers all things.
१९भोज हँसी खुशी के लिये किया जाता है, और दाखमधु से जीवन को आनन्द मिलता है; और रुपयों से सब कुछ प्राप्त होता है।
20 Revile not the king, no, not in thy thought, and revile not the rich in thy bedchamber. For a bird of the heavens shall carry the voice, and that which has wings shall tell the matter.
२०राजा को मन में भी श्राप न देना, न धनवान को अपने शयन की कोठरी में श्राप देना; क्योंकि कोई आकाश का पक्षी तेरी वाणी को ले जाएगा, और कोई उड़नेवाला जन्तु उस बात को प्रगट कर देगा।
