Deuteronomy 8
1 All the commandment which I command thee this day ye shall observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah swore to your fathers.
੧ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੁਕਮਨਾਮੇ ਦੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਕਰੋ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜੀਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਵਧੋ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇਸ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਖਾਧੀ ਸੀ।
2 And thou shall remember all the way which Jehovah thy God has led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.
੨ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਿਓ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਚਾਲ੍ਹੀ ਸਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਈ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋਣਾ ਸਿਖਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਰਖੇ ਅਤੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀ ਹੈ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੱਲੋਗੇ ਵੀ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ?
3 And he humbled thee, and allowed thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knew not, neither did thy fathers know, that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of Jehovah.
੩ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਧੀਨ ਕੀਤਾ, ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਖੇ ਹੋਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਮੰਨਾ ਖਿਲਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਤੁਸੀਂ, ਨਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪਿਉ-ਦਾਦੇ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਸਨ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਿਖਾਵੇ ਕਿ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਰੋਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਪਰ ਹਰੇਕ ਬਚਨ ਨਾਲ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਨਿੱਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
4 Thy raiment did not grow old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.
੪ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਚਾਲ੍ਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਬਸਤਰ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੈਰ ਸੁੱਜੇ।
5 And thou shall consider in thy heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so Jehovah thy God chastens thee.
੫ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰੋ ਕਿ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਤਾੜਨਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਤਾੜਨਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
6 And thou shall keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.
੬ਤੁਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਨਾ ਕਰੋ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੱਲੋ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ,
7 For Jehovah thy God brings thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills;
੭ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਚੰਗੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ, ਚਸ਼ਮੇ ਅਤੇ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਸੋਤੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਘਾਟੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਾੜਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਗਦੇ ਹਨ,
8 a land of wheat and barley, and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey,
੮ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਕਣਕ, ਜੌਂ, ਅੰਗੂਰ, ਹੰਜ਼ੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਅਨਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜ਼ੈਤੂਨ ਦਾ ਤੇਲ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਦ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
9 a land in which thou shall eat bread without scarceness. Thou shall not lack anything in it, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills thou may dig copper.
੯ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤੰਗੀ ਦੀ ਰੋਟੀ ਨਾ ਖਾਓਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਥੁੜ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਦੇਸ਼ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਲੋਹੇ ਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਪਹਾੜੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤਾਂਬਾ ਕੱਢੋਗੇ।
10 And thou shall eat and be full, and thou shall bless Jehovah thy God for the good land which he has given thee.
੧੦ਤੁਸੀਂ ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਖਾਓਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਚੰਗੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਆਖੋਗੇ।
11 Beware lest thou forget Jehovah thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his ordinances, and his statutes, which I command thee this day.
੧੧ਚੌਕਸ ਰਹੋ, ਕਿਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ, ਕਨੂੰਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮੰਨੋ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ।
12 Lest, when thou have eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and dwelt in it,
੧੨ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਜਦ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਰੱਜ ਕੇ ਖਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਘਰ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸ ਜਾਓ,
13 and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou have is multiplied,
੧੩ਜਦ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਚੌਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਇੱਜੜ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸੋਨਾ-ਚਾਂਦੀ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਵੇ, ਸਗੋਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹੀ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਵੇ,
14 then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget Jehovah thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage,
੧੪ਤਦ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਓ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਗੁਲਾਮੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਤੋਂ ਕੱਢਿਆ
15 who led thee through the great and terrible wilderness-fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where was no water-who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint,
੧੫ਅਤੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਵੱਡੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਉਜਾੜ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਚੱਲਿਆ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰੀਲੇ ਸੱਪ ਅਤੇ ਬਿੱਛੂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੁੱਕੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਤੋਂ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਪਥਰੀਲੀ ਚੱਟਾਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਕੱਢਿਆ,
16 who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers did not know, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end.
੧੬ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੰਨਾ ਖਿਲਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪਿਉ-ਦਾਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਸਨ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਅਧੀਨ ਕਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਰਖੇ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਭਲਾ ਕਰੇ,
17 And lest thou say in thy heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.
੧੭ਕਿਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਖੋ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਬਲ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਹੱਥਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਧਨ ਕਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ।
18 But thou shall remember Jehovah thy God, for it is he who gives thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to thy fathers, as at this day.
੧੮ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖਿਓ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬਲ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਧਨ ਕਮਾਓ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਨੇਮ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖੇ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਪੁਰਖਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਖਾਧੀ ਸੀ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੈ।
19 And it shall be, if thou shall forget Jehovah thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.
੧੯ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸੱਚ-ਮੁੱਚ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਓ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਚੱਲੋ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕੋ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਸਾਖੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਓਗੇ।
20 As the nations that Jehovah makes to perish before you, so shall ye perish, because ye would not hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God.
੨੦ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਅੱਗਿਓਂ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਓਗੇ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣੀ।
