Deuteronomy 6
1 Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the ordinances, which Jehovah your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land where ye go over to possess it,
Nämät ovat ne käskyt, säädyt ja oikeudet, jotka Herra teidän Jumalanne käski opettaa teille tehdäksenne siinä maassa, kuhunka te menette omistamaan sitä.
2 that thou might fear Jehovah thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life, and that thy days may be prolonged.
Ettäs pelkäisit Herraa sinun Jumalaas, ja pitäisit kaikki hänen säätynsä ja käskynsä, jotka minä käsken sinulle, sinä ja sinun lapses ja sinun lastes lapset, kaikkena sinun elinaikanas, ettäs kauvan eläisit.
3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it, that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as Jehovah, the God of thy fathers, has promised to thee, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
Israel, sinun pitää kuuleman ja pitämän, niin että sinä myös teet sen jälkeen, että sinulle hyvin kävis, ja te tulisitte paljon lisätyksi; niinkuin Herra sinun isäis Jumala sinulle on luvannut maan, joka rieskaa ja hunajaa vuotaa.
4 Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah.
Kuule Israel, Herra meidän Jumalamme on yksi (ainoa) Herra,
5 And thou shall love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Ja sinun pitää rakastaman Herraa sinun Jumalaas, kaikesta sydämestäs, ja kaikesta sielustas ja kaikesta voimastas.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart.
Ja nämät sanat, jotka minä käsken sinulle tänäpänä, pitää sinun paneman sydämees,
7 And thou shall teach them diligently to thy sons, and shall talk of them when thou sit in thy house, and when thou walk by the way, and when thou lie down, and when thou rise up.
Ja teroittaman ne sinun lapsilles, ja niistä puhuman, huoneessa istuissas ja tiellä käydessäs, maata pannessas ja noustessas.
8 And thou shall bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be for frontlets between thine eyes.
Ja sinun pitää sitoman ne merkiksi kätees, ja ne pitää oleman sinulle muistoksi sinun silmäis edessä.
9 And thou shall write them upon the door-posts of thy house, and upon thy gates.
Ja sinun pitää kirjoittaman ne huonees pihtipieliin ja portteihis,
10 And it shall be, when Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land which he swore to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee, great and goodly cities, which thou did not build,
Kuin Herra sinun Jumalas johdattaa sinun sille maalle, jonka hän sinun isilles, Abrahamille, Isaakille ja Jakobille on vannonut sinulle antaaksensa, suuret ja jalot kaupungit, joita et sinä rakentanut,
11 and houses full of all good things, which thou did not fill, and cisterns hewn out, which thou did not hew, vineyards and olive trees, which thou did not plant, and thou shall eat and be full,
Ja huoneet täynnä kaikkea hyvyyttä, joita et sinä itse täyttänyt, ja vuojonkiviset kaivot, joita et sinä itse kaivanut, ja viinamäet ja öljymäet, joita et sinä itse istuttanut, että sinä syöt ja ravitaan.
12 then beware lest thou forget Jehovah, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Niin ota vaari, ettet sinä unhota Herraa, joka sinun Egyptin maalta, orjuuden huoneesta on johdattanut ulos.
13 Thou shall fear Jehovah thy God, and him thou shall serve, and shall swear by his name.
Mutta sinun pitää pelkäämän Herraa sinun Jumalaas ja palveleman häntä, ja hänen nimensä kautta pitää sinun vannoman.
14 Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples that are round about you,
Ei teidän pidä seuraaman muukalaisia jumalia, niiden kansain jumalia, jotka teidän ympärillänne ovat.
15 for Jehovah thy God in the midst of thee is a jealous God, lest the anger of Jehovah thy God be kindled against thee, and he destroy thee from off the face of the earth.
Sillä Herra sinun Jumalas on kiivas Jumala teidän keskellänne, ettei Herran sinun Jumalas viha julmistuisi sinun päälles, ja hukuttaisi sinua maasta.
16 Ye shall not challenge Jehovah your God, as ye challenged him in Massah.
Ei teidän pidä kiusaaman Herraa teidän Jumalaanne, niinkuin te häntä kiusasitte Massassa;
17 Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of Jehovah your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he has commanded thee.
Mutta pitämän uskollisesti Herran teidän Jumalanne käskyt, niin myös hänen todistuksensa ja hänen säätynsä, jotka hän sinulle käskenyt on,
18 And thou shall do that which is right and good in the sight of Jehovah, that it may be well with thee, and that thou may go in and possess the good land which Jehovah swore to thy fathers,
Ettäs teet sitä mikä oikia ja hyvä on Herran edessä, että sinulle hyvin kävis, ja tulisit sisälle ja omistaisit sen hyvän maan, josta Herra vannoi sinun isilles,
19 to thrust out all thine enemies from before thee, as Jehovah has spoken.
Että hän karkottais kaikki viholliset sinun edestäs, niinkuin Herra sanonut on.
20 When thy son asks thee in time to come, saying, What is the meaning of the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Jehovah our God has commanded you?
Kuin poikas tästälähin kysyy sinulta, sanoen: mitkä todistukset ja säädyt ja oikeudet nämät ovat, jotka Herra meidän Jumalamme teille käskenyt on?
21 Then thou shall say to thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt, and Jehovah brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
Niin sinun pitää sanoman pojalles: me olimme Pharaon orjat Egyptissä; mutta Herra johdatti meidät ulos Egyptistä väkevällä kädellä.
22 And Jehovah showed signs and wonders, great and grievous, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his house, before our eyes.
Ja Herra teki suuria ja pahoja tuunustähtejä, ja ilmeitä Egyptille, Pharaolle, ja kaikelle hänen huoneellensa, meidän silmäimme edessä.
23 And he brought us out from there that he might bring us in to give us the land which he swore to our fathers.
Ja johdatti meidät sieltä, että hän veis meitä, ja antais meille sen maan, josta hän vannoi meidän isillemme.
24 And Jehovah commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Jehovah our God for our good always, that he might preserve us alive as at this day.
Ja Herra käski meitä tekemään kaikkein näiden säätyin jälkeen, peljäten Herraa meidän Jumalaamme, että meille hyvin kävis kaikkena meidän elinaikanamme, niinkuin myös tänäpänä käy.
25 And it shall be righteousness to us, if we observe to do all this commandment before Jehovah our God as he has commanded us.
Ja sen pitää oleman meille vanhurskaudeksi, jos me pidämme ja teemme kaikki nämät käskyt Herran meidän Jumalamme edessä, niinkuin hän meille on käskenyt.
