Deuteronomy 29
1 These are the words of the covenant which Jehovah commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
૧હોરેબમાં જે કરાર યહોવાહે ઇઝરાયલી લોકો સાથે કર્યો, તે ઉપરાંત મોઆબ દેશમાં તેઓની સાથે જે કરાર કરવા ને મૂસાએ આજ્ઞા આપી હતી તે આ મુજબ છે.
2 And Moses called to all Israel, and said to them, Ye have seen all that Jehovah did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,
૨અને મૂસાએ સર્વ ઇઝરાયલી લોકોને બોલાવીને તેઓને કહ્યું, “તમારી નજર આગળ મિસર દેશમાં ફારુનને તથા તેના સેવકોને તથા સમગ્ર દેશને યહોવાહે જે કર્યુ તે બધું તમે નિહાળ્યું છે;
3 the great trials which thine eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders,
૩એટલે તમારી આંખોએ જોયેલ ભયંકર મરકી, ચિહ્નો, તથા અદ્દભુત ચમત્કારો તમે જોયા.
4 yet Jehovah has not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, to this day.
૪પણ યહોવાહે તમને સમજણવાળું હૃદય કે નિહાળતી આંખ કે સાંભળવાને કાન આજ દિન સુધી આપ્યાં નથી.
5 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not grown old upon you, and thy shoe has not grown old upon thy foot.
૫મેં તમને ચાળીસ વર્ષ સુધી અરણ્યમાં ચલાવ્યાં, તેમ છતાં તમારાં શરીર પરનાં વસ્ત્રો ફાટી ગયાં નહિ કે તમારાં પગરખાં ઘસાઈ ગયાં નહિ.
6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink, that ye may know that I am Jehovah your God.
૬તમે રોટલી ખાધી નથી તેમ જ દ્રાક્ષાસવ કે મદ્ય પીધાં નથી; એ સારુ કે હું તમારો ઈશ્વર છું એ તમે જાણો.
7 And when ye came to this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us to battle, and we smote them.
૭જયારે તમે આ જગ્યાએ આવ્યા ત્યારે હેશ્બોનનો રાજા સીહોન તથા બાશાનનો રાજા ઓગ આપણી સામે લડવા આવ્યા અને આપણે તેઓનો પરાજય કર્યો.
8 And we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.
૮અને આપણે તેઓનો દેશ લઈને રુબેનીઓને, ગાદીઓને તથા મનાશ્શાના અડધા કુળને વતન તરીકે આપ્યો.
9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
૯તેથી તમે જે કરો છો તે સર્વમાં સફળ થાઓ માટે આ કરારના શબ્દો પાળો અને અમલમાં લાવો.
10 Ye stand this day all of you before Jehovah your God-your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,
૧૦આજે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરની આગળ તમે બધા ઉપસ્થિત છો; તમારા નેતા, તમારાં કુળો, તમારા વડીલો તથા તમારા સરદારો એટલે સર્વ ઇઝરાયલી માણસો,
11 your little ones, your wives, and thy sojourner who is in the midst of thy camps, from the hewer of thy wood to the drawer of thy water-
૧૧વળી તમારી સાથે તમારાં સંતાનો, પત્નીઓ, તમારી સાથે છાવણીમાં રહેનાર પરદેશી, કઠિયારાથી માંડીને પાણી ભરનાર સુધી તમે સર્વ ઈશ્વરની સમક્ષ છો.
12 that thou may enter into the covenant of Jehovah thy God, and into his oath, which Jehovah thy God makes with thee this day,
૧૨માટે યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વરનો કરાર તથા તેમની જે પ્રતિજ્ઞા યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વર આજે તમારી આગળ કરે છે, તે પ્રમાણે કરવાને તમે તૈયાર થાઓ.
13 that he may establish thee this day to himself for a people, and that he may be to thee a God, as he spoke to thee, and as he swore to thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
૧૩કે તેઓ આજે તમને પોતાની પ્રજા બનાવે અને જેમ તેમણે તમને કહ્યું હતું, તથા જેમ તેમણે તમારા પિતૃઓ આગળ, એટલે ઇબ્રાહિમ, ઇસહાક અને યાકૂબ આગળ સમ ખાધા હતા, તેમ તે તમારા ઈશ્વર થાય.
14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,
૧૪અને હું આ કરાર માત્ર તમારી જ સાથે કરતો નથી તથા આ સમ ખાતો નથી.
15 but with him who stands here with us this day before Jehovah our God, and also with him who is not here with us this day
૧૫પરંતુ આજે આપણી સાથે યહોવાહ આપણા ઈશ્વરની સમક્ષ જે ઊભો રહેલો હશે તેની સાથે, તેમ જ આજે આપણી સાથે જે નહિ હોય તેની સાથે પણ.
16 (for ye know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which ye passed,
૧૬આપણે મિસર દેશમાં કેવી રીતે રહેતા હતા અને જે દેશજાતિઓમાં થઈને આપણે પસાર થયા તેઓની મધ્યે થઈને આપણે કેવી રીતે બહાર આવ્યા એ તમે જાણો છો.
17 and ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them).
૧૭તમે તેઓનાં ધિક્કારપાત્ર કૃત્યો તેઓની લાકડાની, પથ્થરની, ચાંદીની તેમ જ સોનાની મૂર્તિઓ જે તેમની પાસે હતી તે જોઈ છે.
18 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from Jehovah our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations. Lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood,
૧૮રખેને તમારામાંથી કોઈ પુરુષ, સ્ત્રી, કુટુંબ કે ઇઝરાયલનું કોઈ કુળ એવું હોય કે જેનું હૃદય યહોવાહ તમારા ઈશ્વર તરફથી ભટકી જઈને બીજી પ્રજાઓના દેવોની પૂજા કરવા લલચાય. રખેને પિત તથા કડવાશરૂપી મૂળ તમારામાં હોય,
19 and it comes to pass, when he hears the words of this curse, that he blesses himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.
૧૯રખેને તે આ શાપની વાતો સાંભળે ત્યારે તે પોતાના હૃદયમાં આશીર્વાદ આપીને કહે કે, હું મારા હૃદયની હઠીલાઈ પ્રમાણે ચાલું અને સૂકાની સાથે લીલાનો નાશ કરું તો પણ મને શાંતિ મળશે.
20 Jehovah will not pardon him, but then the anger of Jehovah and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie upon him, and Jehovah will blot out his name from under heaven.
૨૦યહોવાહ તેને માફ નહિ કરે પણ તે માણસની સામે યહોવાહનો રોષ તથા જુસ્સો તપી ઊઠશે અને આ પુસ્તકમાં જે સર્વ શાપ લખેલા છે તે તેના પર આવી પડશે. અને યહોવાહ આકાશ નીચેથી તેનું નામોનિશાન નષ્ટ કરી નાખશે.
21 And Jehovah will set him apart to evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.
૨૧અને નિયમના આ પુસ્તકમાં લખેલા કરારમાંના બધા શાપો પ્રમાણે યહોવાહ તેને ઇઝરાયલના સર્વ કુળોમાંથી અલગ કરીને તેને નુકસાન કરશે.
22 And the generation to come, your sons who shall rise up after you, and the foreigner who shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the calamities of that land, and the sicknesses with which Jehovah has made it sick.
૨૨અને તમારી પાછળ થનાર તમારાં સંતાનોની આગામી પેઢી તથા દૂર દેશથી આવનાર પરદેશી પણ યહોવાહે આ દેશને આપેલા રોગો અને આફતો જોશે.
23 The whole land of it is brimstone, and salt, a burning. It is not sown, nor bears, nor any grass grows in it, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Jehovah overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath,
૨૩વળી સદોમ, ગમોરા, આદમા અને સબોઈમ જેઓનો સંહાર યહોવાહે પોતાના કોપથી તથા રોષથી કર્યો તેઓના નાશની પેઠે આખો દેશ ગંધક, ખારરૂપ તથા બળતો થયો છે કે, જેમાં કંઈ વવાતું નથી, વળી કંઈ નીપજતું નથી, તેમ જ તેમાં કંઈ ઘાસ ઊગતું નથી તે જયારે જોશે.
24 even all the nations shall say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land? What is the meaning of the heat of this great anger?
૨૪ત્યારે સર્વ પ્રજાઓ પૂછશે કે, ‘યહોવાહે આ દેશને આવું શા માટે કર્યું? એના ઉપર આવા ભારે કોપની ઉગ્રતાનું શું કારણ હશે?’”
25 Then men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,
૨૫ત્યારે લોકો કહેશે કે, એનું કારણ એ છે કે તેઓના પિતૃઓના ઈશ્વર યહોવાહ તેઓને મિસરમાંથી બહાર લાવ્યા પછી તેઓની સાથે તેમણે જે કરાર કર્યો હતો તે કરારનો તેઓએ ત્યાગ કર્યો.
26 and went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods that they knew not, and that he had not given to them.
૨૬બીજા જે દેવોને તેઓ જાણતા નહોતા તથા જેઓને તેણે તેઓને આપ્યા નહોતા. તેઓની સેવા તથા તેઓનું ભજન તેઓએ કર્યું.
27 Therefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book.
૨૭તેથી આ પુસ્તકમાં લખેલા શાપો આ દેશ પર લાવવાને યહોવાહનો કોપ તેઓ પર સળગ્યો હતો.
28 And Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.
૨૮યહોવાહે કોપમાં તથા ક્રોધમાં તથા તેના ઘણાં રોષમાં તેઓને તેઓના દેશમાંથી ઉખેડીને બીજા દેશમાં કાઢી મૂક્યા. જેમ આજે છે તે પ્રમાણે.
29 The secret things belong to Jehovah our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
૨૯મર્મો યહોવાહ આપણા ઈશ્વરના છે, પણ પ્રગટ કરેલી વાતો સદા આપણી તથા આપણાં સંતાનોની છે, તેથી આપણે આ નિયમનાં સર્વ વચનો પાળીએ.
