Deuteronomy 20
1 When thou go forth to battle against thine enemies, and see horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, thou shall not be afraid of them, for Jehovah thy God is with thee, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
೧ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಶತ್ರುಗಳಿಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಟಾಗ ಅವರ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಕುದುರೆಗಳೂ, ರಥಗಳೂ ಮತ್ತು ನಿಮಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದ ಕಾಲ್ಬಲವೂ ಇರುವುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡರೆ ಹೆದರಬಾರದು. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಐಗುಪ್ತದೇಶದಿಂದ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸಿದ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಕಡೆ ಇದ್ದಾನಲ್ಲಾ.
2 And it shall be, when ye draw near to the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people,
೨ನಿಮಗೆ ಯುದ್ಧ ಸಮೀಪಿಸಿದಾಗ ಯಾಜಕನು ಮುಂದೆ ಬಂದು ಭಟರ ಸಂಗಡ ಮಾತನಾಡಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ,
3 and shall say to them, Hear, O Israel, ye draw near this day to battle against your enemies. Let not your heart faint. Fear not, nor tremble, neither be ye frightened at them.
೩“ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲರೇ, ಕೇಳಿರಿ; ನೀವು ಈಗ ಶತ್ರುಗಳೊಡನೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡುವ ಕಾಲ ಸಮೀಪಿಸಿತಷ್ಟೆ. ನೀವು ಎದೆಗುಂದಬಾರದು, ದಿಗಿಲುಪಡಬಾರದು, ನಡುಗಬಾರದೂ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಹೆದರಲೂಬಾರದು.
4 For Jehovah your God is he who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
೪ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ತಾನೇ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ಇದ್ದು ಶತ್ರುಗಳೊಡನೆ ನಿಮಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಿ ನಿಮಗೆ ಜಯವನ್ನು ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುವನು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು.
5 And the officers shall speak to the people, saying, What man is there who has built a new house, and has not dedicated it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.
೫ಮತ್ತು ಸೈನ್ಯಾಧಿಪತಿಗಳು ಅವರಿಗೆ, “ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ಹೊಸ ಮನೆಯನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಇನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠೆ ಮಾಡದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಆ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ, ಅವನು ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದು ಸತ್ತರೆ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನು ಆ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೃಹಪ್ರವೇಶ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು.
6 And what man is there who has planted a vineyard, and has not used the fruit of it? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man use the fruit of it.
೬ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಿತೋಟವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿ ಅದರ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಅನುಭೋಗಿಸದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ; ಅವನು ಕಾಳಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತರೆ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನು ಆ ತೋಟದ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಭೋಗಿಸಬಹುದು.
7 And what man is there who has betrothed a wife, and has not taken her? Let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.
೭ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ತಾನು ಮದುವೆಗೆ ನಿಶ್ಚಯ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡ ಹೆಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಸೇರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ; ಅವನು ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಸತ್ತರೆ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನು ಅವಳನ್ನು ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು.
8 And the officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, What man is there who is fearful and faint-hearted? Let him go and return to his house, lest his brother's heart melt as his heart.
೮ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, “ಯಾವನಾದರೂ ಅಧೈರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಯುದ್ಧ ಮಾಡಲು ಹಿಂಜರಿದರೆ ಅವನೂ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ; ಅವನು ದಿಗಿಲುಪಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಅವನ ಜೊತೆಗಾರರೂ ದಿಗಿಲುಪಟ್ಟಾರು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು.
9 And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking to the people, that they shall appoint captains of armies at the head of the people.
೯ಸೈನ್ಯಾಧಿಪತಿಗಳು ಭಟರಿಗೆ ಈ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದ ನಂತರ ದಂಡಿನವರ ಮೇಲೆ ನಾಯಕರನ್ನು ನೇಮಿಸಬೇಕು.
10 When thou draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace to it.
೧೦ನೀವು ಒಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಅದರ ಹತ್ತಿರಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ಮೊದಲು ಅದು ಯುದ್ಧವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಮಾಧಾನದಿಂದಲೇ ಅಧೀನವಾಗಬಹುದೆಂದು ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಬೇಕು.
11 And it shall be, if it makes to thee an answer of peace, and opens to thee, then it shall be, that all the people that are found in it shall become tributary to thee, and shall serve thee.
೧೧ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವವರು ಒಪ್ಪಿ ಬಾಗಿಲನ್ನು ನಿಮಗೆ ತೆರೆದುಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಅವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ನಿಮಗೆ ಬಿಟ್ಟೀಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ ದಾಸರಾಗಬೇಕು.
12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shall besiege it.
೧೨ಅವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಸಮ್ಮತಿಸದೆ ಎದುರಿಸಿದರೆ ನೀವು ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣಕ್ಕೆ ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಬೇಕು.
13 And when Jehovah thy God delivers it into thy hand, thou shall smite every male of it with the edge of the sword,
೧೩ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ನಿಮಗೆ ವಶವಾಗುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದಾಗ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಗಂಡಸರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ಕನಿಕರಿಸದೆ ಸಂಹಾರಮಾಡಬೇಕು.
14 but the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil of it, thou shall take for a prey to thyself. And thou shall eat the spoil of thine enemies, which Jehovah thy God has given thee.
೧೪ಹೆಂಗಸರನ್ನೂ, ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನೂ, ದನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಮತ್ತು ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಆಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನೂ ನೀವು ಸ್ವಂತಕ್ಕೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು. ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ನಿಮಗೆ ವಶಪಡಿಸಿದ ಶತ್ರುಗಳ ಆಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀವೇ ಅನುಭೋಗಿಸಬಹುದು.
15 Thus thou shall do to all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
೧೫ಈ ದೇಶದ ಜನಾಂಗಗಳಿಗೆ ಸೇರದೆ ದೂರವಾಗಿರುವ ಜನಾಂಗಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀವು ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು.
16 But of the cities of these peoples, that Jehovah thy God gives thee for an inheritance, thou shall save alive nothing that breathes,
೧೬ಆದರೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಸ್ವಂತಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುವ ಈ ಜನಾಂಗಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡದೆ ಉಸಿರಾಡುವ ಒಬ್ಬರನ್ನಾದರೂ ಉಳಿಸಬಾರದು.
17 but thou shall utterly destroy them-the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite-as Jehovah thy God has commanded thee,
೧೭ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಅಪ್ಪಣೆಕೊಟ್ಟಂತೆ ಇವರನ್ನು ಅಂದರೆ ಹಿತ್ತಿಯರು, ಅಮೋರಿಯರು, ಕಾನಾನ್ಯರು, ಪೆರಿಜ್ಜೀಯರು, ಹಿವ್ವಿಯರು, ಯೆಬೂಸಿಯರು, ಇವರೆಲ್ಲರನ್ನೂ ನಾಶಮಾಡಿಬಿಡಬೇಕು.
18 that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods, so ye would sin against Jehovah your God.
೧೮ಇಲ್ಲವಾದರೆ ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ದೇವರುಗಳಿಗಾಗಿ ಆಚರಿಸುವ ನಿಷಿದ್ಧವಾದ ಆಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಲಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಾರು; ಮತ್ತು ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ದೇವರಾದ ಯೆಹೋವನಿಗೆ ದ್ರೋಹಿಗಳಾಗಬಹುದು.
19 When thou shall besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shall not destroy the trees of it by wielding an axe against them, for thou may eat of them. And thou shall not cut them down, for is the tree of the field a man, that it should be besieged by thee?
೧೯ನೀವು ಒಂದು ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಾಧೀನಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಹುದಿನ ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆಹಾಕಿದಾಗ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿರುವ ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಳುಮಾಡಬಾರದು; ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಕೊಡಲಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕಲೇಬಾರದು. ಅವುಗಳ ಹಣ್ಣನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನಬಹುದೇ ಹೊರತು ಮರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಯಬಾರದು. ಅಡವಿಯ ಮರಗಳು ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಶತ್ರುಗಳಲ್ಲ! ಅವುಗಳೊಡನೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಬಹುದೇ?
20 Only the trees of which thou know that they are not trees for food, thou shall destroy and cut them down. And thou shall build bulwarks against the city that makes war with thee, until it falls.
೨೦ಮರಗಳು ತಿನ್ನತಕ್ಕ ಹಣ್ಣು ಕೊಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ನೀವು ತಿಳಿದಾಗ ಮಾತ್ರ ಅದನ್ನು ಕಡಿದು ನಾಶಮಾಡಬಹುದು. ಅವುಗಳಿಂದ ಯುದ್ಧಸಲಕರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ನಿಮಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿರುವ ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣವು ನಾಶವಾಗುವ ತನಕ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಬೇಕು.
