< Deuteronomy 17 >
1 Thou shall not sacrifice to Jehovah thy God an ox, or a sheep, in which is a blemish or anything bad, for that is an abomination to Jehovah thy God.
“ʻOua naʻa ke feilaulau ʻaki kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua ha pulu, pe ha sipi, ʻaia ʻoku ai hano mele, pe ha momoʻi kovi: he ko e meʻa kovi ia kia Sihova ko ho ʻOtua.
2 If there be found in the midst of thee, within any of thy gates which Jehovah thy God gives thee, man or woman, who does that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah thy God, in transgressing his covenant,
“Kapau ʻoku ʻilo ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻi ha kolo ʻaia ʻoku tuku mai ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua kiate koe, ha tangata pe ha fefine, ʻaia kuo fai ʻe ia ʻae angakovi ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, ʻi he fai talangataʻa ki heʻene fuakava,
3 and has gone and served other gods, and worshiped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded,
Pea kuo ʻalu ia ʻo tauhi ʻotua kehe, pea lotu ki ai, pe ko e laʻā, pe ko e māhina, pe ha meʻa ʻe taha ʻi he langi, ʻaia naʻe ʻikai te u fekau;
4 and it be told thee, and thou have heard of it, then shall thou inquire diligently. And, behold, if it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel,
Pea kapau ʻoku tala ia kiate koe, pea kuo ke fanongo ki ai, mo ke fehuʻi fakapapau, pea vakai, ʻoku moʻoni, pea kuo pau pe ʻae meʻa ko ia, kuo fai ʻi ʻIsileli ʻae meʻa kovi ko ia:
5 then thou shall bring forth that man or that woman, who has done this evil thing, to thy gates, even the man or the woman, and thou shall stone them to death with stones.
Te ke toki ʻomi kituʻa ʻae tangata pe ko e fefine ko ia, ʻaia kuo ne fai ʻae meʻa kovi ko ia, ki ho matapā, ʻio, ʻae tangata pe ko e fefine ko ia, pea tolongaki ʻaki ia ʻae maka, ke mate.
6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he who is to die be put to death. He shall not be put to death at the mouth of one witness.
“ʻI he ngutu ʻoe fakamoʻoni ʻe toko ua, pe toko tolu, ʻe tuku ke mate ʻaia ʻoku totonu ke mate; ka ʻi he ngutu ʻoe fakamoʻoni ʻe tokotaha pe ʻe ʻikai fakamaau ke mate ia;
7 The hand of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So thou shall put away the evil from the midst of thee.
ʻE tomuʻa ʻai ʻae nima ʻoe kau fakamoʻoni kiate ia ke tāmateʻi ia, pea toki hoko ʻae nima ʻoe kakai kotoa pē. ʻE pehē ʻa hoʻomou tukuange ai ʻae kovi ʻiate kimoutolu.
8 If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates, then thou shall arise, and get thee up to the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose.
“Kapau ʻe hoko ha meʻa ʻoku fifilingataʻa ʻaupito ʻa hono fakamaauʻi, ʻi he fetāmateʻiʻaki, ʻi he fefakamaau ʻaki, mo e fetāʻaki, ʻaia ʻoku tupu ai ʻae fakakikihi ʻi hoʻo ngaahi kolo: pea te ke toki tuʻu hake, ʻo ʻalu hake ki he potu ʻaia ʻe fili ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua;
9 And thou shall come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge who shall be in those days, and thou shall inquire. And they shall show thee the sentence of judgment.
Pea te ke haʻu ki he kau taulaʻeiki ko e kau Livai, pea kiate ia ʻoku fakamaau ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho ko ia, pea ke fehuʻi ki ai; pea tenau fakahā kiate koe ʻa hono fakamaau totonu.
10 And thou shall do according to the tenor of the sentence which they shall show thee from that place which Jehovah shall choose. And thou shall observe to do according to all that they shall teach thee,
Pea te ke fai ʻo hangē ko hono fakatonutonu, ʻaia ʻe fakahā ʻi he potu ko ia kiate koe ʻekinautolu, ʻi he potu ko ia ʻaia kuo fili ʻe Sihova; pea te ke tokanga ke fai ʻo fakatatau ki he meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku nau tala kiate koe:
11 according to the tenor of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shall do. Thou shall not turn aside from the sentence, which they shall show thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.
Ke ke fai ʻo tatau mo e fakamaau ʻoe fono ʻaia tenau ako ʻaki kiate koe, pea hangē ko e fakamaau ʻaia tenau tala kiate koe, ʻoua naʻa ke afe mei hono fakatonutonu ʻaia tenau fakahā kiate koe, ki he nima toʻomataʻu, pe ki he toʻohema.
12 And the man who does presumptuously, in not hearkening to the priest who stands to minister there before Jehovah thy God, or to the judge, even that man shall die, and thou shall put away the evil from Israel.
“Pea ko e tangata ko ia ʻoku pau pe ke fai loto lahi, pea ʻoku ʻikai fie fanongo ki he taulaʻeiki ʻaia ʻoku tuʻu ke tauhi ʻi ai ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, pe ki he fakamaau, ko e tangata ko ia ʻe mate: pea te ke tukuange ʻae kovi mei ʻIsileli.
13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.
Pea ʻe fanongo ki ai ʻae kakai kotoa pē, pea manavahē, pea ʻe ʻikai toe fai ʻae anga loto lahi.
14 When thou have come to the land which Jehovah thy God gives thee, and shall possess it, and shall dwell in it, and shall say, I will set a king over me like all the nations that are round about me,
“ʻI hoʻo hoko atu ki he fonua ʻaia ʻoku foaki ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua kiate koe, pea ke maʻu ia, mo ke nofo ki ai, pea ke pehē, Te u fakanofo ha tuʻi ke pule kiate au, ʻo hangē ko e ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē ʻoku takatakai au;
15 thou shall surely set him king over thee whom Jehovah thy God shall choose. Thou shall set a king over thee from among thy brothers. Thou may not put a foreigner over thee who is not thy brother.
Ko e moʻoni ke ke fakanofo ia ko e tuʻi ke pule kiate koe, ʻaia ʻe fili ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua: ke ke fakanofo ha tokotaha mei ho kāinga ko e tuʻi kiate koe: ʻoua naʻa ke fakanofo ha muli ke pule kiate koe, ʻaia ʻoku ʻikai ko ho tokoua.
16 Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he may multiply horses, inasmuch as Jehovah has said to you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
Kaeʻoua naʻa fakalahi ʻe ia ʻae fanga hoosi kiate ia, pe pule ke toe ʻalu atu ʻae kakai ki ʻIsipite, koeʻuhi ke ne fakalahi ʻae fanga hoosi: he kuo folofola ʻa Sihova kiate kimoutolu, ʻE ʻikai te mou toe ʻalu ʻi he hala ko ia.
17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away. Neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
Pea ʻoua naʻa fakatokolahi ʻe ia ʻae uaifi kiate ia, telia naʻa afe kehe hono loto: pea ʻoua naʻa ne fakalahi ʻaupito ʻae siliva mo e koula kiate ia.
18 And it shall be, when he sits upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for him a copy of this law in a book, out of it before the priests the Levites,
Pea ʻoka hoko ia ʻo nofo ʻi he nofoʻa fakatuʻi ʻo hono puleʻanga, te ne hiki ʻo tohi nima maʻana ʻae fono ni ʻi ha tohi mei he tohi ʻaia ʻoku ʻi he ʻao ʻoe kau taulaʻeiki mo e kau Livai:
19 and it shall be with him. And he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear Jehovah his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them,
Pea ʻe ʻiate ia ia, pea te ne lau ʻi ai ʻi he ngaahi ʻaho kotoa pē ʻo ʻene moʻui: koeʻuhi ke ʻilo ai ia ke manavahē kia Sihova ko hono ʻOtua, ke fai ki he ngaahi lea kotoa pē ʻoe fono ni mo e ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, ke fai ki ai:
20 that his heart not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.
Ke ʻoua naʻa hiki hake hono loto ki hono kāinga, pea ke ʻoua naʻa tafoki mei he fekau, ki he nima toʻomataʻu, pe ki he toʻohema: koeʻuhi ke fakatolonga ai hono ngaahi ʻaho ʻi hono puleʻanga, ʻa ia, mo ʻene ngaahi fānau, ʻi he lotolotonga ʻo ʻIsileli.
