Deuteronomy 15

1 At the end of every seven years thou shall make a release.

A la fin de chaque période de sept ans, vous annulerez les dettes.

2 And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor shall release that which he has lent to his neighbor. He shall not exact it from his neighbor and his brother, because Jehovah's release has been proclaimed.

Voici comment on procédera: tout créancier libérera ce qu'il a prêté à son prochain. Il n'exigera pas de paiement de son voisin et de son frère, car le relâchement de Yahvé a été proclamé.

3 From a foreigner thou may exact it, but whatever of thine is with thy brother, thy hand shall release.

Tu pourras l'exiger d'un étranger, mais ce qui est à toi chez ton frère, ta main le libérera.

4 However there shall be no poor with thee (for Jehovah will surely bless thee in the land which Jehovah thy God gives thee for an inheritance to possess it),

Mais il n'y aura pas de pauvre chez toi, car l'Éternel te bénira dans le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne en héritage à posséder,

5 if only thou diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, to observe to do all this commandment which I command thee this day.

si seulement tu écoutes attentivement la voix de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, pour mettre en pratique tout ce que je te prescris aujourd'hui.

6 For Jehovah thy God will bless thee as he promised thee, and thou shall lend to many nations, but thou shall not borrow, and thou shall rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over thee.

Car l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira, comme il te l'a promis. Tu prêteras à beaucoup de nations, mais tu n'emprunteras pas. Tu domineras sur beaucoup de nations, mais elles ne domineront pas sur toi.

7 If there be with thee a poor man, one of thy brothers, within any of thy gates in thy land which Jehovah thy God gives thee, thou shall not harden thy heart, nor shut thy hand from thy poor brother,

Si un pauvre, l'un de tes frères, se trouve avec toi dans l'une de tes portes, dans le pays que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne, tu n'endurciras pas ton cœur et tu ne fermeras pas ta main à ton frère pauvre,

8 but thou shall surely open thy hand to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need which he wants.

mais tu lui ouvriras ta main et tu lui prêteras de quoi subvenir à son besoin, dont il manque.

9 Beware that there not be a base thought in thy heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand, and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou give him nothing, and he cry to Jehovah against thee, and it be sin to thee.

Prends garde qu'il n'y ait pas dans ton cœur une mauvaise pensée, disant: « La septième année, l'année du relâche, est proche », et que ton œil soit mauvais contre ton frère pauvre, et que tu ne lui donnes rien; il criera contre toi à l'Éternel, et ce sera un péché pour toi.

10 Thou shall surely give him, and thy heart shall not be grieved when thou give to him, because for this thing Jehovah thy God will bless thee in all thy work, and in all that thou put thy hand to.

Tu donneras, et ton cœur ne s'affligera pas quand tu lui donneras, car c'est pour cela que Yahvé ton Dieu te bénira dans tout ton travail et dans tout ce que tu entreprendras.

11 For the poor will never cease out of the land. Therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shall surely open thy hand to thy brother, to thy needy, and to thy poor, in thy land.

Car les pauvres ne cesseront jamais de quitter le pays. C'est pourquoi je te commande d'ouvrir ta main à ton frère, à ton indigent et à ton pauvre, dans ton pays.

12 If thy brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, is sold to thee, and serves thee six years, then in the seventh year thou shall let him go free from thee.

Si ton frère, homme hébreu ou femme hébreue, t'est vendu et te sert pendant six ans, tu le libéreras la septième année.

13 And when thou let him go free from thee, thou shall not let him go empty.

Lorsque tu le laisseras partir libre, tu ne le laisseras pas partir à vide.

14 Thou shall furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy threshing-floor, and out of thy winepress. As Jehovah thy God has blessed thee thou shall give to him.

Tu le nourriras généreusement de ton troupeau, de ton aire de battage et de ton pressoir. Tu lui donneras ce que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a béni.

15 And thou shall remember that thou were a bondman in the land of Egypt, and Jehovah thy God redeemed thee. Therefore I command thee this thing today.

Tu te souviendras que tu étais esclave au pays d'Égypte, et que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'a racheté. C'est pourquoi je te donne aujourd'hui cet ordre.

16 And it shall be, if he says to thee, I will not go out from thee, because he loves thee and thy house, because he is well with thee,

S'il te dit: « Je ne sortirai pas de chez toi », parce qu'il t'aime, toi et ta maison, parce qu'il est bien avec toi,

17 then thou shall take an awl, and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be thy servant forever. And also to thy maid-servant thou shall do likewise.

tu prendras une alène et tu lui enfonceras l'oreille jusqu'à la porte, et il sera ton esclave pour toujours. Tu feras de même pour ta servante.

18 It shall not seem hard to thee when thou let him go free from thee, for he has been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years. And Jehovah thy God will bless thee in all that thou do.

Il ne te semblera pas difficile de le renvoyer libre de chez toi, car il a eu le double de la valeur d'un mercenaire en te servant pendant six ans. L'Éternel, ton Dieu, te bénira dans tout ce que tu feras.

19 All the firstling males that are born of thy herd and of thy flock thou shall sanctify to Jehovah thy God. Thou shall do no work with the firstling of thy herd, nor shear the firstling of thy flock.

Tu consacreras à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, tous les premiers-nés mâles qui naîtront de ton troupeau et de ton cheptel. Tu ne feras pas travailler les premiers-nés de ton troupeau et tu ne tondras pas les premiers-nés de ton troupeau.

20 Thou shall eat it before Jehovah thy God year by year in the place which Jehovah shall choose, thou and thy household.

Tu le mangeras devant l'Éternel, ton Dieu, année par année, dans le lieu que l'Éternel choisira, toi et ta famille.

21 And if it has any blemish, as lame or blind, any ill blemish whatever, thou shall not sacrifice it to Jehovah thy God.

S'il a un défaut quelconque, s'il est boiteux ou aveugle, ou s'il a un défaut quelconque, tu ne le sacrifieras pas à l'Éternel, ton Dieu.

22 Thou shall eat it within thy gates. The unclean man and the clean man alike, as the gazelle, and as the hart.

Tu le mangeras dans tes portes. L'impur et le pur en mangeront de la même manière, comme la gazelle et comme le cerf.

23 Only thou shall not eat the blood of it. Thou shall pour it out upon the ground as water.

Seulement, tu ne mangeras pas son sang. Tu le répandras sur le sol comme de l'eau.
