Daniel 3
1 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits, and the breadth of it six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
Il re Nebucadnetsar fece una statua d’oro, alta sessanta cubiti e larga sei cubiti, e la eresse nella pianura di Dura, nella provincia di Babilonia.
2 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
E il re Nebucadnetsar mandò a radunare i satrapi, i prefetti, i governatori, i giudici, i tesorieri, i giureconsulti, i presidenti e tutte le autorità delle province, perché venissero alla inaugurazione della statua che il re Nebucadnetsar aveva eretta.
3 Then the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up, and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
Allora i satrapi, i prefetti e i governatori, i giudici, i tesorieri, i giureconsulti, i presidenti e tutte le autorità delle province s’adunarono per la inaugurazione della statua, che il re Nebucadnetsar aveva eretta; e stavano in piedi davanti la statua che Nebucadnetsar aveva eretta.
4 Then the herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages,
E l’araldo gridò forte: “A voi, popoli, nazioni e lingue è imposto che,
5 that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up.
nel momento in cui udrete il suono del corno, del flauto, della cetra, della lira, del saltèro, della zampogna e d’ogni sorta di strumenti, vi prostriate per adorare la statua d’oro che il re Nebucadnetsar ha eretta;
6 And he who does not fall down and worship shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
e chiunque non si prostrerà per adorare, sarà immantinente gettato in mezzo ad una fornace di fuoco ardente”.
7 Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
non appena quindi tutti i popoli ebbero udito il suono del corno, del flauto, della cetra, della lira, del saltèro e d’ogni sorta di strumenti, tutti i popoli, tutte le nazioni e lingue si prostrarono e adorarono la statua d’oro, che il re Nebucadnetsar aveva eretta.
8 Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and brought accusation against the Jews.
Allora, in quello stesso momento, alcuni uomini Caldei si fecero avanti, e accusarono i Giudei;
9 They answered and said to Nebuchadnezzar the king, O king, live forever.
e, rivolgendosi al re Nebucadnetsar, gli dissero: “O re, possa tu vivere in perpetuo!
10 Thou, O king, have made a decree, that every man who shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image.
Tu, o re, hai emanato un decreto, per il quale chiunque ha udito il suono del corno, del flauto, della cetra, della lira, del saltèro, della zampogna e d’ogni sorta di strumenti deve prostrarsi per adorare la statua d’oro;
11 And he who does not fall down and worship, shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
e chiunque non si prostra e non adora, dev’esser gettato in mezzo a una fornace di fuoco ardente.
12 There are certain Jews whom thou have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, have not regarded thee. They do not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou have set up.
Or vi sono degli uomini giudei, che tu hai preposti agli affari della provincia di Babilonia: Shadrac, Meshac, e Abed-nego; codesti uomini, o re, non ti tengono in alcun conto; non servono i tuoi dèi, e non adorano la statua d’oro che tu hai eretta”.
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.
Allora Nebucadnetsar, irritato e furioso, ordinò che gli fossero menati Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego; e quegli uomini furon menati in presenza del re.
14 Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, Is it of purpose, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that ye do not serve my god, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?
Nebucadnetsar, rivolgendosi a loro, disse: “Shadrac, Meshac, Abed-nego, lo fate deliberatamente di non servire i miei dèi e di non adorare la statua d’oro che io ho eretto?
15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made, well. But if ye do not worship, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is that god who shall deliver you out of my hands?
Ora, se non appena udrete il suono del corno, del flauto, della cetra, della lira, del saltèro, della zampogna e d’ogni sorta di strumenti, siete pronti a prostrarvi per adorare la statua che io ho fatto, bene; ma se non l’adorate, sarete immantinente gettati in mezzo a una fornace di fuoco ardente; e qual è quel dio che vi libererà dalle mie mani?”
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer thee in this matter.
Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego risposero al re, dicendo: “O Nebucadnetsar, noi non abbiam bisogno di darti risposta su questo.
17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thy hand, O king.
Ecco, il nostro Dio che noi serviamo, è potente da liberarci, e ci libererà dalla fornace del fuoco ardente, e dalla tua mano, o re.
18 But if not, be it known to thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou have set up.
Se no, sappi o re, che noi non serviremo i tuoi dèi e non adoreremo la statua d’oro che tu hai eretto”.
19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was accustomed to be heated.
Allora Nebucadnetsar fu ripieno di furore, e l’aspetto del suo viso fu mutato verso Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego. Egli riprese la parola, e si ordinò che si accendesse la fornace sette volte più di quello che s’era pensato di fare;
20 And he commanded certain mighty men who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
Poi comandò ad alcuni uomini de’ più vigorosi del suo esercito di legare Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego, e di gettarli nella fornace del fuoco ardente.
21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their tunics, and their head coverings, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
Allora questi tre uomini furono legati con le loro tuniche, le loro sopravvesti, i loro mantelli e tutti i loro vestiti, e furon gettati in mezzo alla fornace del fuoco ardente.
22 Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace very hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
E siccome l’ordine del re era perentorio e la fornace era straordinariamente riscaldata, la fiamma del fuoco uccise gli uomini che vi avevan gettato dentro Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
E quei tre uomini, Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego, caddero legati in mezzo alla fornace del fuoco ardente.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste. He spoke and said to his counselors, Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said to the king, True, O king.
Allora il re Nebucadnetsar fu spaventato, si levò in gran fretta, e prese a dire ai suoi consiglieri: “Non abbiam noi gettato in mezzo al fuoco tre uomini legati?” quelli risposero e dissero al re: “Certo, o re!”
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no harm. And the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.
Ed egli riprese a dire: “Ecco, io vedo quattro uomini, sciolti, che camminano in mezzo al fuoco, senz’aver sofferto danno alcuno; e l’aspetto del quarto è come quello d’un figlio degli dèi”.
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace. He spoke and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the Most High God, come forth, and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came forth out of the midst of the fire.
Poi Nebucadnetsar s’avvicinò alla bocca della fornace del fuoco ardente, e prese a dire: “Shadrac, Meshac, Abed-nego, servi dell’Iddio altissimo, uscite, venite!” E Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego uscirono di mezzo al fuoco.
27 And the satraps, the deputies, and the governors, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, that the fire had no power upon their bodies, nor was the hair of their head singed. Neither were their coats changed, nor had the smell of fire passed on them.
E i satrapi, i prefetti, i governatori e i consiglieri del re, essendosi adunati, guardarono quegli uomini, e videro che il fuoco non aveva avuto alcun potere sul loro corpo, che i capelli del loro capo non erano stati arsi, che le loro tuniche non erano alterate, e ch’essi non avevano odor di fuoco.
28 Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his agent, and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.
E Nebucadnetsar prese a dire: “Benedetto sia l’Iddio di Shadrac, di Meshac e di Abed-nego, il quale ha mandato il suo angelo, e ha liberato i suoi servi che hanno confidato in lui, hanno trasgredito l’ordine del re, e hanno esposto i loro corpi, per non servire e non adorare altro dio che il loro!
29 Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill, because there is no other god who is able to deliver after this sort.
Perciò, io faccio questo decreto: che chiunque, a qualsiasi popolo, nazione o lingua appartenga, dirà male dell’Iddio di Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego, sia fatto a pezzi, e la sua casa sia ridotta in un immondezzaio; perché non v’è alcun altro dio che possa salvare a questo modo”.
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
Allora il re fece prosperare Shadrac, Meshac e Abed-nego nella provincia di Babilonia.
