Amos 5
1 Hear ye this word which I take up for a lamentation over you, O house of Israel.
ওহে ইস্রায়েল কুল, তোমরা এই বাণী শোনো। এই বিলাপ-গীতি আমি তোমাদের সম্পর্কে করতে চলেছি:
2 The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise. She is cast down upon her land; there is none to raise her up.
“কুমারী-ইস্রায়েল পতিত হয়েছে, সে আর কখনও উঠতে পারবে না; সে তার নিজের দেশেই পরিত্যক্ত হয়েছে, তাকে তুলে ধরার জন্য কেউই নেই।”
3 For thus says the lord Jehovah: The city that went forth a thousand shall have a hundred left, and that which went forth a hundred shall have ten left, to the house of Israel.
সার্বভৌম সদাপ্রভু এই কথা ইস্রায়েলকে বলেন: “তোমার নগরের লোকেরা সহস্র হয়ে সমরাভিযান করে, তাদের কেবলমাত্র শতজন অবশিষ্ট থাকবে; তোমার নগর একশত জন হয়ে যুদ্ধযাত্রা করে, তারা কেবলমাত্র দশজন অবশিষ্ট থাকবে।”
4 For thus says Jehovah to the house of Israel: Seek ye me, and ye shall live.
সদাপ্রভু এই কথা ইস্রায়েলকে বলেন: “আমার অন্বেষণ করো ও বাঁচো;
5 But seek not Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beersheba. For Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Bethel shall come to naught.
বেথেলের অন্বেষণ কোরো না, তোমরা গিল্গলে যেয়ো না, বের-শেবা পর্যন্ত যাত্রা কোরো না। কারণ গিল্গল অবশ্যই নির্বাসিত হবে, বেথেল অসার প্রতিপন্ন হবে।”
6 Seek Jehovah, and ye shall live, lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and it devour, and there be none to quench it in Bethel.
তোমরা সদাপ্রভুর অন্বেষণ করো ও বাঁচো, নইলে, তিনি আগুনের মতো যোষেফের কুল বিনষ্ট করবেন, তা তাকে গ্রাস করবে, আর তা নির্বাপিত করার জন্য বেথেলে কেউই থাকবে না।
7 Ye who turn justice to wormwood, and cast down righteousness to the earth,
তোমরা যারা ন্যায়বিচারকে তিক্ততায় পরিণত করো, ও ধার্মিকতাকে ভূমিতে নিক্ষেপ করো,
8 seek him who makes the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night, who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out upon the face of the earth (Jehovah is his name),
যিনি কৃত্তিকা ও কালপুরুষ নক্ষত্রমণ্ডলী নির্মাণ করেছেন, যিনি মধ্য রাত্রিকে প্রভাতে পরিণত করেন ও দিনকে রাতের মতো অন্ধকারময় করেন, যিনি সমুদ্রের জলরাশিকে আহ্বান করেন ও ভূপৃষ্ঠের উপরে তাদের ঢেলে দেন— সদাপ্রভু তাঁর নাম।
9 who brings sudden destruction upon the strong, so that destruction comes upon the fortress.
তিনি দৃঢ় দুর্গের উপরে দ্রুত সর্বনাশ নামিয়ে আনেন ও সুরক্ষিত নগরীকে ধ্বংস করে থাকেন,
10 They hate him who reproves in the gate, and they abhor him who speaks uprightly.
তোমরা তাকে ঘৃণা করো, যে ন্যায়ালয়ে তিরস্কার করে ও যে সত্যিকথা বলে, তাকে অবজ্ঞা করো।
11 Inasmuch therefore as ye trample upon the poor, and take exactions of wheat from him. Ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them. Ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink the wine thereof.
তোমরা দরিদ্রদের পদদলিত করো ও জোর করে তাদের কাছ থেকে শস্য কেড়ে নাও। তাই, তোমরা যদিও পাথরের অট্টালিকা নির্মাণ করেছ, তোমরা সেগুলির মধ্যে বসবাস করতে পারবে না; তোমরা যদিও রম্য দ্রাক্ষাকুঞ্জ রোপণ করেছ, তা থেকে উৎপন্ন দ্রাক্ষারস তোমরা পান করতে পারবে না।
12 For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins-ye who afflict the just man, who take a bribe, and who turn aside the needy in the gate.
কারণ আমি তোমাদের অপরাধের মাত্রা ও তোমাদের পাপসকল কত ব্যাপক, তা জানি। তোমরা ধার্মিক ব্যক্তিকে নিপীড়ন করো ও ঘুস নাও, তোমরা ন্যায়ালয়ে দরিদ্রদের ন্যায়বিচার থেকে বঞ্চিত করো।
13 Therefore he who is prudent shall keep silence in such a time, for it is an evil time.
সেই কারণে বিচক্ষণ মানুষ এসব সময়ে চুপ করে থাকে, কারণ সময় সব মন্দ।
14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live, and so Jehovah, the God of hosts, will be with you, as ye say.
তোমরা মঙ্গলের অন্বেষণ করো, মন্দের নয়, যেন তোমরা বাঁচতে পারো। তখন সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু তোমাদের সঙ্গে থাকবেন, যেমন তোমরা বলে থাকো যে তিনি থাকেন।
15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate. It may be that Jehovah, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.
তোমরা মন্দকে ঘৃণা করো, উত্তমতাকে ভালোবাসো; ন্যায়ালয়ে ন্যায়বিচার রক্ষা করো। হয়তো সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু, যোষেফের অবশিষ্টাংশের উপরে করুণা করবেন।
16 Therefore thus says Jehovah, the God of hosts, the Lord: Wailing shall be in all the broad ways. And they shall say in all the streets, Alas! Alas! And they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful in lamentation to wailing.
অতএব প্রভু, সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “সমস্ত পথে পথে শোকবিলাপ হবে, প্রত্যেক চকে প্রকাশ্যে মনস্তাপের কান্না শোনা যাবে। কৃষকদের কাঁদবার জন্য তলব করা হবে, বিলাপকারীদের বিলাপ করার জন্য ডাকা হবে।
17 And in all vineyards shall be wailing, for I will pass through the midst of thee, says Jehovah.
সমস্ত দ্রাক্ষাকুঞ্জে সেদিন বিলাপ করা হবে, কারণ আমি তোমাদের মধ্য দিয়ে অতিক্রম করব,” সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন।
18 Woe to you who desire the day of Jehovah! Why would ye have the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light.
ধিক্ তোমাদের, যারা সদাপ্রভুর দিনের অপেক্ষায় থাকো! কেন তোমরা সদাপ্রভুর দিনের অপেক্ষায় থাকো? সেদিন হবে অন্ধকারের, আলোর নয়।
19 As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him, or went into the house and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
তা এইরকম হবে, কেউ যেন সিংহ থেকে পালিয়ে বাঁচল তো গিয়ে ভালুকের সামনে পড়ল, অথবা বাড়িতে প্রবেশ করল আর দেওয়ালে হাত রাখল, তখন সাপ তাকে দংশন করল।
20 Shall not the day of Jehovah be darkness, and not light, even very dark, and no brightness in it?
সদাপ্রভুর দিন কি আলো, তা অন্ধকার কি হবে না— তা হবে গাঢ় অন্ধকার, আলোর রেশও কি কোথাও থাকবে?
21 I hate, I despise your feasts, and I will take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
“আমি তোমাদের ধর্মীয় উৎসবগুলি ঘৃণা করি, অগ্রাহ্য করি; তোমাদের সভাগুলি আমি সহ্য করতে পারি না।
22 Yea, though ye offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them, nor will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.
তোমরা যদিও আমার কাছে হোমবলি ও শস্য-নৈবেদ্যগুলি উপস্থিত করো, আমি সেগুলি গ্রহণ করব না। তোমরা যদিও নধর পশুর মঙ্গলার্থক বলি উৎসর্গ করো, আমি সেগুলি চেয়েও দেখব না।
23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs, for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.
তোমাদের গানবাজনার শব্দ দূর করো! আমি তোমাদের বীণার ঝংকার শুনতে চাই না।
24 But let justice roll down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
কিন্তু ন্যায়বিচার নদীর মতো প্রবাহিত হোক, ধার্মিকতা কখনও শুকিয়ে না যাওয়া স্রোতের মতো হোক!
25 Did ye bring sacrifices and offerings to me in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
“হে ইস্রায়েলের কুল, তোমরা কি মরুভূমিতে চল্লিশ বছর, আমার কাছে বিভিন্ন বলিদান ও নৈবেদ্য নিয়ে এসেছিলে?
26 Yea, ye have borne the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, your images which ye made to yourselves.
না, তোমরা বরং তোমাদের রাজা সিক্কুৎ ও কীয়ুন নামের প্রতিমাদের, তোমাদের দেবতাদের তারা— যা নিজেদের জন্য নির্মাণ করেছিলে, তাই তুলে বহন করেছিলে।
27 Therefore I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, says Jehovah, whose name is the God of hosts.
তাই আমি তোমাদের দামাস্কাসের ওপারে নির্বাসিত করব,” বলেন সদাপ্রভু, যাঁর নাম সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বর।
