Acts 6
1 Now in those days, the disciples being multiplied, there developed a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily assistance.
Or in que’ giorni, moltiplicandosi il numero dei discepoli, sorse un mormorio degli Ellenisti contro gli Ebrei, perché le loro vedove erano trascurate nell’assistenza quotidiana.
2 And the twelve, having summoned the multitude of the disciples, they said, It is not right for us, having left the word of God behind, to serve tables.
E i dodici, raunata la moltitudine dei discepoli, dissero: Non è convenevole che noi lasciamo la parola di Dio per servire alle mense.
3 Therefore, brothers, seek ye out seven men from you being well reported, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this need.
Perciò, fratelli, cercate di trovar fra voi sette uomini, de’ quali si abbia buona testimonianza, pieni di Spirito e di sapienza, e che noi incaricheremo di quest’opera.
4 But we will continue steadfastly in prayer, and in the service of the word.
Ma quant’è a noi, continueremo a dedicarci alla preghiera e al ministerio della Parola.
5 And the word was pleasing before all the multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte, a citizen of Antioch,
E questo ragionamento piacque a tutta la moltitudine; ed elessero Stefano, uomo pieno di fede e di Spirito Santo, Filippo, Procoro, Nicanore, Timone, Parmena e Nicola, proselito di Antiochia;
6 men whom they placed before the apostles. And having prayed, they laid hands upon them.
e li presentarono agli apostoli, i quali, dopo aver pregato, imposero loro le mani.
7 And the word of God increased, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a large company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
E la parola di Dio si diffondeva, e il numero dei discepoli si moltiplicava grandemente in Gerusalemme; e anche una gran quantità di sacerdoti ubbidiva alla fede.
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.
Or Stefano, pieno di grazia e di potenza, faceva gran prodigi e segni fra il popolo.
9 But some of those from the synagogue called Libertines, and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up disputing with Stephen.
Ma alcuni della sinagoga detta dei Liberti, e de’ Cirenei, e degli Alessandrini, e di quei di Cilicia e d’Asia, si levarono a disputare con Stefano;
10 And they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke.
e non potevano resistere alla sapienza e allo Spirito con cui egli parlava.
11 Then they instigated men who said, We have heard him speaking blasphemous sayings against Moses and God.
Allora subornarono degli uomini che dissero: Noi l’abbiamo udito dir parole di bestemmia contro Mosè e contro Dio.
12 And they incited the people, and the elders, and the scholars. And after approaching, they seized him, and brought him to the council.
E commossero il popolo e gli anziani e gli scribi; e venutigli addosso, lo afferrarono e lo menarono al Sinedrio;
13 And they put forward false witnesses who said, This man does not cease speaking blasphemous sayings against the holy place, and the law.
e presentarono dei falsi testimoni, che dicevano: Quest’uomo non cessa di proferir parole contro il luogo santo e contro la legge.
14 For we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Nazarene will destroy this place, and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us.
Infatti gli abbiamo udito dire che quel Nazareno, Gesù, distruggerà questo luogo e muterà gli usi che Mosè ci ha tramandati.
15 And all who sat in the council, having gazed upon him, saw his face like a face of an agent.
E tutti coloro che sedevano nel Sinedrio, avendo fissati in lui gli occhi, videro la sua faccia simile alla faccia d’un angelo.
