< Acts 4 >
1 And as they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees approached them,
yasmin samaye pitarayohanau lokAn upadizatastasmin samaye yAjakA mandirasya senApatayaH sidUkIgaNazca
2 being greatly annoyed because of their teaching the people, and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.
tayor upadezakaraNe khrISTasyotthAnam upalakSya sarvveSAM mRtAnAm utthAnaprastAve ca vyagrAH santastAvupAgaman|
3 And they threw hands on them, and put them in custody for the morrow, for it was now evening.
tau dhRtvA dinAvasAnakAraNAt paradinaparyyanantaM ruddhvA sthApitavantaH|
4 But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men became about five thousand.
tathApi ye lokAstayorupadezam azRNvan teSAM prAyeNa paJcasahasrANi janA vyazvasan|
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, to be assembled in Jerusalem, their rulers, and elders, and scholars,
pare'hani adhipatayaH prAcInA adhyApakAzca hAnananAmA mahAyAjakaH
6 and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the high priestly family.
kiyaphA yohan sikandara ityAdayo mahAyAjakasya jJAtayaH sarvve yirUzAlamnagare militAH|
7 And after placing them in the midst, they inquired, By what power, or in what name, have ye done this?
anantaraM preritau madhye sthApayitvApRcchan yuvAM kayA zaktayA vA kena nAmnA karmmANyetAni kuruthaH?
8 Then Peter being filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
tadA pitaraH pavitreNAtmanA paripUrNaH san pratyavAdIt, he lokAnAm adhipatigaNa he isrAyelIyaprAcInAH,
9 if we are examined today about a good deed, of a feeble man, by what this man has been healed,
etasya durbbalamAnuSasya hitaM yat karmmAkriyata, arthAt, sa yena prakAreNa svasthobhavat tacced adyAvAM pRcchatha,
10 be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this, this man stands here before you healthy.
tarhi sarvva isrAyelIyalokA yUyaM jAnIta nAsaratIyo yo yIzukhrISTaH kruze yuSmAbhiravidhyata yazcezvareNa zmazAnAd utthApitaH, tasya nAmnA janoyaM svasthaH san yuSmAkaM sammukhe prottiSThati|
11 This is the stone that was rejected by you who build, which became into the head of the corner.
nicetRbhi ryuSmAbhirayaM yaH prastaro'vajJAto'bhavat sa pradhAnakoNasya prastaro'bhavat|
12 And salvation is not in any other man, for there is no other name under the heaven, that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.
tadbhinnAdaparAt kasmAdapi paritrANaM bhavituM na zaknoti, yena trANaM prApyeta bhUmaNDalasyalokAnAM madhye tAdRzaM kimapi nAma nAsti|
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are illiterate and uneducated men, they marveled. And they recognized them, that they had been with Jesus.
tadA pitarayohanoretAdRzIm akSebhatAM dRSTvA tAvavidvAMsau nIcalokAviti buddhvA Azcaryyam amanyanta tau ca yIzoH saGginau jAtAviti jJAtum azaknuvan|
14 And seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they had nothing to contradict.
kintu tAbhyAM sArddhaM taM svasthamAnuSaM tiSThantaM dRSTvA te kAmapyaparAm ApattiM karttaM nAzaknun|
15 But after commanding them to go outside of the council, they conferred among each other,
tadA te sabhAtaH sthAnAntaraM gantuM tAn AjJApya svayaM parasparam iti mantraNAmakurvvan
16 saying, What will we do to these men? For that indeed a notable sign has happened by them, is apparent to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
tau mAnavau prati kiM karttavyaM? tAvekaM prasiddham AzcaryyaM karmma kRtavantau tad yirUzAlamnivAsinAM sarvveSAM lokAnAM samIpe prAkAzata tacca vayamapahnotuM na zaknumaH|
17 But that it may not spread on further among the people, let us threaten them with threats to speak no longer in this name, to not one man.
kintu lokAnAM madhyam etad yathA na vyApnoti tadarthaM tau bhayaM pradarzya tena nAmnA kamapi manuSyaM nopadizatam iti dRDhaM niSedhAmaH|
18 And having called them, they commanded them entirely, not to utter nor to teach in the name of Jesus.
tataste preritAvAhUya etadAjJApayan itaH paraM yIzo rnAmnA kadApi kAmapi kathAM mA kathayataM kimapi nopadizaJca|
19 But Peter and John having replied to them, they said, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken to you rather than God, judge ye.
tataH pitarayohanau pratyavadatAm IzvarasyAjJAgrahaNaM vA yuSmAkam AjJAgrahaNam etayo rmadhye Izvarasya gocare kiM vihitaM? yUyaM tasya vivecanAM kuruta|
20 For we are not able not to speak what we saw and heard.
vayaM yad apazyAma yadazRNuma ca tanna pracArayiSyAma etat kadApi bhavituM na zaknoti|
21 And they, having further threatened, released them, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people. Since all glorified God for that which happened.
yadaghaTata tad dRSTA sarvve lokA Izvarasya guNAn anvavadan tasmAt lokabhayAt tau daNDayituM kamapyupAyaM na prApya te punarapi tarjayitvA tAvatyajan|
22 For the man was more than forty years old on whom this sign of healing had occurred.
yasya mAnuSasyaitat svAsthyakaraNam AzcaryyaM karmmAkriyata tasya vayazcatvAriMzadvatsarA vyatItAH|
23 And after being released, they went to their own men, and reported as many things as the chief priests and the elders said to them.
tataH paraM tau visRSTau santau svasaGginAM sannidhiM gatvA pradhAnayAjakaiH prAcInalokaizca proktAH sarvvAH kathA jJApitavantau|
24 And those who heard lifted up a voice to God with one accord, and said, Thou Master, the God who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all things in them.
tacchrutvA sarvva ekacittIbhUya Izvaramuddizya proccairetat prArthayanta, he prabho gagaNapRthivIpayodhInAM teSu ca yadyad Aste teSAM sraSTezvarastvaM|
25 He who said through the mouth of thy boy David, Why do the nations rage, and the peoples meditate vain things?
tvaM nijasevakena dAyUdA vAkyamidam uvacitha, manuSyA anyadezIyAH kurvvanti kalahaM kutaH| lokAH sarvve kimarthaM vA cintAM kurvvanti niSphalAM|
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.
paramezasya tenaivAbhiSiktasya janasya ca| viruddhamabhitiSThanti pRthivyAH patayaH kutaH||
27 For in truth, against thy holy Boy Jesus, whom thou anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together,
phalatastava hastena mantraNayA ca pUrvva yadyat sthirIkRtaM tad yathA siddhaM bhavati tadarthaM tvaM yam athiSiktavAn sa eva pavitro yIzustasya prAtikUlyena herod pantIyapIlAto
28 to do as many things as thy hand and thy purpose predetermined to happen.
'nyadezIyalokA isrAyellokAzca sarvva ete sabhAyAm atiSThan|
29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to thy bondmen with all boldness to speak thy word,
he paramezvara adhunA teSAM tarjanaM garjanaJca zRNu;
30 by thy stretching forth thy hand for healing, and signs and wonders to happen through the name of thy holy Boy Jesus.
tathA svAsthyakaraNakarmmaNA tava bAhubalaprakAzapUrvvakaM tava sevakAn nirbhayena tava vAkyaM pracArayituM tava pavitraputrasya yIzo rnAmnA AzcaryyANyasambhavAni ca karmmANi karttuJcAjJApaya|
31 And when they prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
itthaM prArthanayA yatra sthAne te sabhAyAm Asan tat sthAnaM prAkampata; tataH sarvve pavitreNAtmanA paripUrNAH santa Izvarasya kathAm akSobheNa prAcArayan|
32 And the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and soul. And not even one man said that anything of the things that was possessed by him was his own, but all things were common to them.
aparaJca pratyayakArilokasamUhA ekamanasa ekacittIbhUya sthitAH| teSAM kepi nijasampattiM svIyAM nAjAnan kintu teSAM sarvvAH sampattyaH sAdhAraNyena sthitAH|
33 And with great power the apostles gave back the testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.
anyacca preritA mahAzaktiprakAzapUrvvakaM prabho ryIzorutthAne sAkSyam adaduH, teSu sarvveSu mahAnugraho'bhavacca|
34 For not even any needy was among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses, selling, they brought the proceeds of the things that were sold,
teSAM madhye kasyApi dravyanyUnatA nAbhavad yatasteSAM gRhabhUmyAdyA yAH sampattaya Asan tA vikrIya
35 and placed them at the apostles' feet. And it was distributed to each, according as any man had need.
tanmUlyamAnIya preritAnAM caraNeSu taiH sthApitaM; tataH pratyekazaH prayojanAnusAreNa dattamabhavat|
36 And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles, Barnabas (which is, being translated, son of encouragement), a Levite, a Cypriot by nationality,
vizeSataH kupropadvIpIyo yosinAmako levivaMzajAta eko jano bhUmyadhikArI, yaM preritA barNabbA arthAt sAntvanAdAyaka ityuktvA samAhUyan,
37 having sold a field that was possessed by him, brought the money and placed it at the apostles' feet.
sa jano nijabhUmiM vikrIya tanmUlyamAnIya preritAnAM caraNeSu sthApitavAn|
