Acts 4
1 And as they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees approached them,
Pendant que Pierre et Jean parlaient au peuple, survinrent les prêtres, le capitaine du temple et les Sadducéens,
2 being greatly annoyed because of their teaching the people, and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.
mécontents de ce qu’ils enseignaient le peuple et annonçaient en la personne de Jésus la résurrection des morts.
3 And they threw hands on them, and put them in custody for the morrow, for it was now evening.
Ils mirent la main sur eux, et ils les jetèrent en prison jusqu’au lendemain; car il était déjà soir.
4 But many of those who heard the word believed, and the number of the men became about five thousand.
Cependant beaucoup de ceux qui avaient entendu ce discours crurent, et le nombre des hommes s’éleva à environ cinq mille.
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, to be assembled in Jerusalem, their rulers, and elders, and scholars,
Le lendemain, leurs chefs, les Anciens et les Scribes, s’assemblèrent à Jérusalem,
6 and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the high priestly family.
avec Anne, le grand prêtre, Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient de la famille pontificale.
7 And after placing them in the midst, they inquired, By what power, or in what name, have ye done this?
Et ayant fait comparaître les Apôtres devant eux, ils leur demandèrent: « Par quelle puissance ou au nom de qui avez-vous fait cela? »
8 Then Peter being filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,
Alors Pierre, rempli du Saint-Esprit, leur dit: « Chefs du peuple et Anciens d’Israël:
9 if we are examined today about a good deed, of a feeble man, by what this man has been healed,
si l’on nous interroge aujourd’hui, sur un bienfait accordé à un infirme, pour savoir comment cet homme a été guéri,
10 be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this, this man stands here before you healthy.
sachez-le bien, vous tous, et tout le peuple d’Israël: C’est par le nom de Jésus-Christ de Nazareth, que vous avez crucifié et que Dieu a ressuscité des morts, c’est par lui que cet homme se présente devant vous pleinement guéri.
11 This is the stone that was rejected by you who build, which became into the head of the corner.
Ce Jésus est la pierre rejetée par vous de l’édifice, et qui est devenue la pierre angulaire.
12 And salvation is not in any other man, for there is no other name under the heaven, that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.
Et le salut n’est en aucun autre; car il n’y a pas sous le ciel un autre nom qui ait été donné aux hommes, par lequel nous devions être sauvés. »
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are illiterate and uneducated men, they marveled. And they recognized them, that they had been with Jesus.
Lorsqu’ils virent l’assurance de Pierre et de Jean, sachant que c’étaient des hommes du peuple sans instruction, ils furent étonnés; ils les reconnurent en même temps pour avoir été avec Jésus.
14 And seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they had nothing to contradict.
Mais, comme ils voyaient debout, près d’eux, l’homme qui avait été guéri, ils n’avaient rien à répliquer.
15 But after commanding them to go outside of the council, they conferred among each other,
Les ayant fait sortir du sanhédrin, ils se mirent à délibérer entre eux,
16 saying, What will we do to these men? For that indeed a notable sign has happened by them, is apparent to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.
disant: « Que ferons-nous à ces hommes? Qu’ils aient fait un miracle insigne, c’est ce qui est manifeste pour tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et nous ne pouvons le nier.
17 But that it may not spread on further among the people, let us threaten them with threats to speak no longer in this name, to not one man.
Mais afin que la chose ne se répande pas davantage parmi le peuple, défendons-leur avec menaces de parler désormais en ce nom-là à qui que ce soit. »
18 And having called them, they commanded them entirely, not to utter nor to teach in the name of Jesus.
Et les ayant rappelés, ils leur interdirent absolument de parler et d’enseigner au nom de Jésus.
19 But Peter and John having replied to them, they said, Whether it is right in the sight of God to hearken to you rather than God, judge ye.
Pierre et Jean leur répondirent: « Jugez s’il est juste devant Dieu de vous obéir plutôt qu’à Dieu.
20 For we are not able not to speak what we saw and heard.
Pour nous, nous ne pouvons pas ne pas dire ce que nous avons vu et entendu. »
21 And they, having further threatened, released them, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people. Since all glorified God for that which happened.
Alors ils leur firent des menaces et les relâchèrent, ne sachant comment les punir, à cause du peuple, parce que tous glorifiaient Dieu de tout ce qui venait d’arriver.
22 For the man was more than forty years old on whom this sign of healing had occurred.
Car l’homme qui avait été guéri d’une manière si merveilleuse était âgé de plus de quarante ans.
23 And after being released, they went to their own men, and reported as many things as the chief priests and the elders said to them.
Mis en liberté, ils se rendirent auprès de leurs frères et leur racontèrent tout ce que les Princes des prêtres et les Anciens leur avaient dit.
24 And those who heard lifted up a voice to God with one accord, and said, Thou Master, the God who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all things in them.
Ce qu’ayant entendu, les frères élevèrent tous ensemble la voix vers Dieu, en disant: « Maître souverain, c’est vous qui avez fait le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qu’ils renferment.
25 He who said through the mouth of thy boy David, Why do the nations rage, and the peoples meditate vain things?
C’est vous qui avez dit [par l’Esprit-Saint], par la bouche de [notre père] David, votre serviteur: « Pourquoi les nations ont-elles frémi, et les peuples ont-ils formé de vains complots?
26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord, and against his Christ.
Les rois de la terre se sont soulevés; les princes se sont ligués contre le Seigneur et contre son Christ. »—
27 For in truth, against thy holy Boy Jesus, whom thou anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together,
Voici qu’en vérité, dans cette ville, se sont ligués contre votre saint serviteur, Jésus, consacré par votre onction, Hérode et Ponce-Pilate avec les gentils et les peuples d’Israël,
28 to do as many things as thy hand and thy purpose predetermined to happen.
pour faire ce que votre main et votre conseil avaient arrêté d’avance.
29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats, and grant to thy bondmen with all boldness to speak thy word,
Et maintenant, Seigneur, considérez leurs menaces, et donnez à vos serviteurs d’annoncer votre parole avec une pleine assurance,
30 by thy stretching forth thy hand for healing, and signs and wonders to happen through the name of thy holy Boy Jesus.
en étendant votre main pour qu’il se fasse des guérisons, des miracles et des prodiges, par le nom de votre saint serviteur Jésus. »
31 And when they prayed, the place in which they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
Quand ils eurent prié, le lieu où ils étaient réunis trembla: ils furent tous remplis du Saint-Esprit, et ils annoncèrent la parole de Dieu avec assurance.
32 And the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and soul. And not even one man said that anything of the things that was possessed by him was his own, but all things were common to them.
La multitude des fidèles n’avait qu’un cœur et qu’une âme; nul n’appelait sien ce qu’il possédait, mais tout était commun entre eux.
33 And with great power the apostles gave back the testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.
Avec beaucoup de force les apôtres rendaient témoignage de la résurrection du Sauveur Jésus, et une grande grâce était sur eux tous.
34 For not even any needy was among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses, selling, they brought the proceeds of the things that were sold,
Car il n’y avait parmi eux aucun indigent: tous ceux qui possédaient des terres ou des maisons les vendaient
35 and placed them at the apostles' feet. And it was distributed to each, according as any man had need.
et en apportaient le prix aux pieds des Apôtres; on le distribuait ensuite à chacun, selon ses besoins.
36 And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles, Barnabas (which is, being translated, son of encouragement), a Levite, a Cypriot by nationality,
Un lévite originaire de Chypre, Joseph, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabé (ce qui se traduit Fils de consolation),
37 having sold a field that was possessed by him, brought the money and placed it at the apostles' feet.
possédait un champ; il le vendit, en apporta l’argent et le déposa aux pieds des Apôtres.
