Acts 14
1 And it came to pass in Iconium according to the same thing, for them to enter into the synagogue of the Jews, and to speak so as for a great quantity to believe, both of Jews and of Greeks.
tau dvau janau yugapad ikaniyanagarasthayihUdIyAnAM bhajanabhavanaM gatvA yathA bahavo yihUdIyA anyadeshIyalokAshcha vyashvasan tAdR^ishIM kathAM kathitavantau|
2 But the disobedient Jews aroused the souls of the Gentiles, and made them evil against the brothers.
kintu vishvAsahInA yihUdIyA anyadeshIyalokAn kupravR^ittiM grAhayitvA bhrAtR^igaNaM prati teShAM vairaM janitavantaH|
3 Indeed therefore they remained a considerable time speaking boldly in the Lord-him testifying to the word of his grace, granting signs and wonders to occur by their hands.
ataH svAnugrahakathAyAH pramANaM datvA tayo rhastai rbahulakShaNam adbhutakarmma cha prAkAshayad yaH prabhustasya kathA akShobhena prachAryya tau tatra bahudinAni samavAtiShThetAM|
4 But the majority of the city was divided, and verily there were those with the Jews, and those with the apostles.
kintu kiyanto lokA yihUdIyAnAM sapakShAH kiyanto lokAH preritAnAM sapakShA jAtAH, ato nAgarikajananivahamadhye bhinnavAkyatvam abhavat|
5 And as a violent movement developed, both of the Gentiles and of the Jews, with their rulers, to denounce and to stone them,
anyadeshIyA yihUdIyAsteShAm adhipatayashcha daurAtmyaM kutvA tau prastarairAhantum udyatAH|
6 having become aware of it, they fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and the neighboring region.
tau tadvArttAM prApya palAyitvA lukAyaniyAdeshasyAntarvvarttilustrAdarbbo
7 And there they were preaching the good news.
tatsamIpasthadesha ncha gatvA tatra susaMvAdaM prachArayatAM|
8 And a certain man was sitting in Lystra, disabled in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's belly, who had never walked.
tatrobhayapAdayoshchalanashaktihIno janmArabhya kha njaH kadApi gamanaM nAkarot etAdR^isha eko mAnuSho lustrAnagara upavishya paulasya kathAM shrutavAn|
9 This man was listening to Paul speaking, who, having gazed at him, and having seen that he has faith to be healed,
etasmin samaye paulastamprati dR^iShTiM kR^itvA tasya svAsthye vishvAsaM viditvA prochchaiH kathitavAn
10 said with a great voice, Stand correctly on thy feet. And he leaped up and walked.
padbhyAmuttiShThan R^iju rbhava|tataH sa ullamphaM kR^itvA gamanAgamane kutavAn|
11 And the multitudes who saw what Paul did, lifted up their voice, speaking Lycaonian, The gods came down to us, having become like men.
tadA lokAH paulasya tat kAryyaM vilokya lukAyanIyabhAShayA prochchaiH kathAmetAM kathitavantaH, devA manuShyarUpaM dhR^itvAsmAkaM samIpam avArohan|
12 And they actually called Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the man who led the word.
te barNabbAM yUpitaram avadan paulashcha mukhyo vaktA tasmAt taM markuriyam avadan|
13 And the priest of Zeus, being in front of their city, after bringing oxen and garlands to the gates, wanted to sacrifice with the multitudes.
tasya nagarasya sammukhe sthApitasya yUpitaravigrahasya yAjako vR^iShAn puShpamAlAshcha dvArasamIpam AnIya lokaiH sarddhaM tAvuddishya samutsR^ijya dAtum udyataH|
14 But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard, having torn their garments, they rushed into the crowd, crying out
tadvArttAM shrutvA barNabbApaulau svIyavastrANi ChitvA lokAnAM madhyaM vegena pravishya prochchaiH kathitavantau,
15 and saying, Men, why are ye doing these things? We also are men of like nature with you, proclaiming good news to you, to turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and all the things in them,
he mahechChAH kuta etAdR^ishaM karmma kurutha? AvAmapi yuShmAdR^ishau sukhaduHkhabhoginau manuShyau, yuyam etAH sarvvA vR^ithAkalpanAH parityajya yathA gagaNavasundharAjalanidhInAM tanmadhyasthAnAM sarvveShA ncha sraShTAramamaram IshvaraM prati parAvarttadhve tadartham AvAM yuShmAkaM sannidhau susaMvAdaM prachArayAvaH|
16 who in the generations that have passed allowed all the nations to go in their own ways,
sa IshvaraH pUrvvakAle sarvvadeshIyalokAn svasvamArge chalitumanumatiM dattavAn,
17 although he did not leave himself without evidence, doing good and giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts of food and gladness.
tathApi AkAshAt toyavarShaNena nAnAprakArashasyotpatyA cha yuShmAkaM hitaiShI san bhakShyairAnanadena cha yuShmAkam antaHkaraNAni tarpayan tAni dAnAni nijasAkShisvarUpANi sthapitavAn|
18 And saying these things, they scarcely restrained the multitudes not to sacrifice to them.
kintu tAdR^ishAyAM kathAyAM kathitAyAmapi tayoH samIpa utsarjanAt lokanivahaM prAyeNa nivarttayituM nAshaknutAm|
19 But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium. And having persuaded the crowds, and having stoned Paul, they dragged him out of the city, after presuming him to be dead.
AntiyakhiyA-ikaniyanagarAbhyAM katipayayihUdIyalokA Agatya lokAn prAvarttayanta tasmAt tai paulaM prastarairAghnan tena sa mR^ita iti vij nAya nagarasya bahistam AkR^iShya nItavantaH|
20 But the disciples having surrounded him, after rising, he came into the city. And on the morrow he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.
kintu shiShyagaNe tasya chaturdishi tiShThati sati sa svayam utthAya punarapi nagaramadhyaM prAvishat tatpare. ahani barNabbAsahito darbbInagaraM gatavAn|
21 And having preached the good news to that city, and having made considerable disciples, they returned to Lystra, and to Iconium, and to Antioch,
tatra susaMvAdaM prachAryya bahulokAn shiShyAn kR^itvA tau lustrAm ikaniyam AntiyakhiyA ncha parAvR^itya gatau|
22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that it was necessary for us to enter into the kingdom of God through many tribulations.
bahuduHkhAni bhuktvApIshvararAjyaM praveShTavyam iti kAraNAd dharmmamArge sthAtuM vinayaM kR^itvA shiShyagaNasya manaHsthairyyam akurutAM|
23 And having appointed elders for them in every congregation, having prayed with fasting, they entrusted them to the Lord, in whom they had believed.
maNDalInAM prAchInavargAn niyujya prArthanopavAsau kR^itvA yatprabhau te vyashvasan tasya haste tAn samarpya
24 And after passing through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.
pisidiyAmadhyena pAmphuliyAdeshaM gatavantau|
25 And when they spoke the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia,
pashchAt pargAnagaraM gatvA susaMvAdaM prachAryya attAliyAnagaraM prasthitavantau|
26 and from there they sailed to Antioch, from where they were delivered to the grace of God for the work that they fulfilled.
tasmAt samudrapathena gatvA tAbhyAM yat karmma sampannaM tatkarmma sAdhayituM yannagare dayAlorIshvarasya haste samarpitau jAtau tad AntiyakhiyAnagaraM gatavantA|
27 And after arriving, and after gathering the assembly together, they reported as many things as God did with them, and that he opened a door of faith to the Gentiles.
tatropasthAya tannagarasthamaNDalIM saMgR^ihya svAbhyAma Ishvaro yadyat karmmakarot tathA yena prakAreNa bhinnadeshIyalokAn prati vishvAsarUpadvAram amochayad etAn sarvvavR^ittAntAn tAn j nApitavantau|
28 And they remained there no little time with the disciples.
tatastau shiryyaiH sArddhaM tatra bahudinAni nyavasatAm|
