2 Samuel 20
1 And there happened to be there a base fellow whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite. And he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, O Israel.
Et là se rencontra un homme mauvais, nommé Séba, fils de Bicheri, Benjaminite; et il sonna de la trompette et dit: Nous ne sommes ni participants de David, ni tenanciers du fils d'Isaï:
2 So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri, but the men of Judah clung to their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.
Chacun à sa tente, Israélites! Alors tous les Israélites se détachèrent de David, pour suivre Séba, fils de Bicheri. Mais les hommes de Juda se serrèrent autour de leur Roi, du Jourdain à Jérusalem.
3 And David came to his house at Jerusalem. And the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and provided them with sustenance, but did not go in to them. So they were shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.
Et David rentra dans sa maison à Jérusalem. Et le Roi prit les dix concubines qu'il avait laissées pour garder la maison, et les mit en lieu de détention, et pourvut à leur entretien; mais il n'habita point avec elles, et elles furent recluses jusqu'au jour de leur mort, vivant en état de viduité.
4 Then the king said to Amasa, Call the men of Judah together to me within three days, and be thou here present.
Et le Roi dit à Amasa: Convoque-moi les hommes de Juda dans l'espace de trois jours, puis reviens ici à ton poste!
5 So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together, but he delayed longer than the set time which he had appointed him.
Et Amasa se mit en route pour convoquer Juda, mais il tarda au delà du terme à lui fixé.
6 And David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom. Take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.
Et David dit à Abisaï: Maintenant Séba, fils de Bicheri, nous nuira plus qu'Absalom. Toi donc, prends les serviteurs de ton Souverain, et mets-toi à sa poursuite, de peur qu'il n'occupe des places fortes, et ne se dérobe à notre vue.
7 And there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men. And they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
Alors sous sa conduite partirent les hommes de Joab et les satellites et les coureurs et tous les braves; et ils sortirent de Jérusalem à la poursuite de Séba, fils de Bicheri.
8 When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and on it was a belt with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath of it. And as he went forth it fell out.
Ils étaient à la grande pierre près de Gabaon, lorsque Amasa parut en vue d'eux. Or Joab avait ceint une cotte d'armes sur son habit; et par-dessus il était ceint de l'épée qui était attachée à ses reins dans le fourreau; et comme elle en était sortie, il laissa retomber [sa main].
9 And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with thee, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.
Et Joab dit à Amasa: Te va-t-il bien, mon frère? Et de sa main droite Joab prit la barbe d'Amasa pour lui donner le baiser.
10 But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand. So he smote him with it in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again, and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.
Or Amasa n'avait pas pris garde à l'épée qui était dans la main de Joab, et celui-ci lui en porta un coup dans le ventre d'où ses entrailles se répandirent sur le terrain, et il ne réitéra pas, et Amasa mourut. Cependant Joab et Abisaï, son frère, poursuivirent Séba, fils de Bicheri.
11 And there stood by him one of Joab's young men, and said, He who favors Joab, and he who is for David, let him follow Joab.
Et à côté d'Amasa était resté un homme d'entre les écuyers Joab et il disait: Que ceux qui sont du parti de Joab et pour David, suivent Joab!
12 And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that everyone who came by him stood still.
Or Amasa roulait dans son sang au milieu du chemin, et quand l'homme vit que tout le monde s'arrêtait, il poussa Amasa de la route dans un champ et jeta sur lui un manteau, lorsqu'il vit que tous ceux qui arrivaient près de lui, s'arrêtaient.
13 When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.
Lorsqu'il fut écarté de la route, chacun passa à la suite de Joab, à l'effet de poursuivre Séba, fils de Bicheri.
14 And he went through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, and to Beth-maacah, and all the Berites. And they were gathered together, and also went after him.
Et il parcourut toutes les Tribus d'Israël jusqu'à Abéla et Beth-Maacha; et tous les hommes d'élite s'étaient réunis et joints à lui.
15 And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart. And all the people who were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.
Et ils vinrent l'assiéger dans Abéla-Beth-Maacha; et ils élevèrent une terrasse contre la place; et il était posté sur le glacis, et comme toute la troupe que Joab avait avec lui sapait pour faire crouler la muraille,
16 Then a wise woman out of the city cried out, Hear, hear. Say, I pray you, to Joab, Come near here, that I may speak with thee.
une femme bien avisée cria de la ville: Écoutez! écoutez! Dites donc à Joab: Approche jusqu'ici, que je te parle!
17 And he came near to her, and the woman said, Are thou Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said to him, Hear the words of thy handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.
Et il vint à proximité et la femme lui dit: Est-ce toi qui es Joab? Et il dit: Moi-même. Et elle lui dit: Écoute le langage de ta servante! Et il dit: J'écoute.
18 Then she spoke, saying, They were accustomed to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel, and so they ended the matter.
Et elle dit: Jadis on avait coutume de dire: Que l'on demande conseil dans Abéla, et ainsi, l'on viendra à bout.
19 I am of those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. Thou seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?
Je suis l'une des pacifiques, fidèles en Israël: tu cherches à tuer une ville, une cité mère en Israël! pourquoi veux-tu abîmer une propriété de l'Éternel?
20 And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me that I should swallow up or destroy.
Et Joab répondit et dit: Loin, loin de moi la pensée d'abîmer et de détruire!
21 The matter is not so, but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said to Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.
Telle n'est pas la question; mais un homme de la Montagne d'Ephraïm, nommé Séba, fils de Bicheri, a levé sa main contre le Roi David; livrez-le seul et je m'éloignerai de la place.
22 Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.
Et la femme dit à Joab: Voici, sa tête va t'être jetée par-dessus la muraille. Alors la femme se présenta à tout le peuple avec son sage avis; et on trancha la tête à Séba, fils de Bicheri, et on la jeta à Joab. Et il sonna de la trompette, et levant le siège de la place ils se disséminèrent tous gagnant chacun leurs tentes; quant à Joab, il revint à Jérusalem auprès du Roi.
23 Now Joab was over all the army of Israel, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites,
Or Joab était préposé sur toute la milice d'Israël, et Benaïa, fils de Joïada, sur les satellites et les coureurs,
24 and Adoram was over the men subject to task work, and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder,
et Adoram sur les corvées, et Josaphat, fils de Ahilud, était chancelier,
25 and Sheva was scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar were priests,
et Séja, secrétaire, et Tsadoc et Abiathar, Prêtres;
26 and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister to David.
et Ira de Jaïr était aussi ministre de David.
