2 Samuel 15
1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared for him a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
Après cela, Absalom se procura un char et des chevaux, et cinquante hommes qui couraient devant lui.
2 And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate. And it was so, that, when any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him, and said, Of what city are thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
Absalom se levait de bonne heure, et se tenait près de l’avenue de la porte; et chaque fois qu’un homme ayant un procès se rendait vers le roi pour obtenir un jugement, Absalom l’appelait et disait: « De quelle ville es-tu? » Lorsqu’il avait répondu: « Ton serviteur est de telle tribu d’Israël, »
3 And Absalom said to him, See, thy matters are good and right, but there is no man appointed by the king to hear thee.
Absalom lui disait: « Vois, ta cause est bonne et juste; mais personne ne t’écoutera de la part du roi. »
4 Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any suit or case might come to me, and I would do for him justice!
Absalom ajoutait: « Qui m’établira juge dans le pays! Quiconque aurait un procès ou une affaire viendrait à moi, et je lui rendrais justice. »
5 And it was so, that, when any man came near to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took hold of him, and kissed him.
Et lorsque quelqu’un s’approchait pour se prosterner devant lui, il lui tendait la main, le prenait et le baisait.
6 And on this manner Absalom did to all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
Absalom agissait ainsi envers tous ceux d’Israël qui se rendaient vers le roi pour demander justice; et il séduisait les cœurs des gens d’Israël.
7 And it came to pass at the end of forty years, that Absalom said to the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to Jehovah, in Hebron.
Au bout de quatre ans, Absalom dit au roi: « Permets, je te prie, que j’aille à Hébron pour m’acquitter du vœu que j’ai fait à Yahweh.
8 For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If Jehovah shall indeed bring me again to Jerusalem, then I will serve Jehovah.
Car pendant que je demeurais à Gessur en Aram, ton serviteur a fait un vœu, en disant: “Si Yahweh me ramène à Jérusalem, je servirai Yahweh.” »
9 And the king said to him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.
Le roi lui dit: « Va en paix! » Il se leva et partit pour Hébron.
10 But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron.
Absalom envoya des émissaires dans toutes les tribus d’Israël, pour dire: « Dès que vous entendrez le son de la trompette, vous direz: Absalom règne à Hébron! »
11 And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem who were invited, and went in their simplicity. And they did not know anything.
Avec Absalom partirent deux cents hommes de Jérusalem: c’étaient des invités qui allaient en toute simplicité, sans se douter de rien.
12 And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.
Pendant qu’Absalom offrait les sacrifices, il envoya chercher à sa ville de Gilo Achitophel le Gilonite, conseiller de David. La conjuration devint puissante, car le peuple était de plus en plus nombreux autour d’Absalom.
13 And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.
On vint en informer David, en disant: « Le cœur des hommes d’Israël s’est mis à la suite d’Absalom. »
14 And David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee, for otherwise none of us shall escape from Absalom. Make speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.
Et David dit à tous ses serviteurs qui étaient avec lui à Jérusalem: « Levez-vous, fuyons, car il n’y a pas moyen pour nous d’échapper devant Absalom. Hâtez-vous de partir, de peur que, se hâtant, il ne nous surprenne, qu’il ne fasse tomber sur nous le malheur et qu’il ne frappe la ville du tranchant de l’épée. »
15 And the king's servants said to the king, Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king shall choose.
Les serviteurs du roi lui dirent: « Quelque parti que prenne mon seigneur le roi, voici tes serviteurs. »
16 And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, who were concubines, to keep the house.
Le roi partit, avec toute sa famille, à pied, et il laissa dix concubines pour garder la maison.
17 And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and they remained in Beth-merhak.
Le roi sortit avec tout le peuple à pied, et ils s’arrêtèrent à la dernière maison.
18 And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.
Tous ses serviteurs marchaient à ses côtés, tous les Céréthiens et tous les Phéléthiens; et tous les Géthéens, au nombre de six cents hommes, qui étaient venus de Geth sur ses pas, marchaient devant le roi.
19 Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, Why do thou also go with us? Return, and abide with the king, for thou are a foreigner, and also an exile. Return to thine own place.
Le roi dit à Ethaï le Géthéen: « Pourquoi viendrais-tu, toi aussi, avec nous? Retourne et reste avec le roi, car tu es un étranger et même tu es un exilé sans domicile.
20 Whereas thou came but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us, seeing I go where I may? Return thou, and take back thy brothers. Mercy and truth be with thee.
Tu es arrivé d’hier, et aujourd’hui je te ferais errer avec nous, alors que moi-même je m’en vais je ne sais où! Retourne et emmène tes frères avec toi; sur toi soient la grâce et la fidélité de Yahweh! »
21 And Ittai answered the king, and said, As Jehovah lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, even there thy servant will also be.
Ethaï répondit au roi et dit: « Yahweh est vivant et mon seigneur le roi est vivant! A l’endroit où sera mon seigneur le roi, soit pour mourir soit pour vivre, là sera ton serviteur. »
22 And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.
David dit à Ethaï: « Va, passe! » Et Ethaï le Géthéen passa avec tous ses hommes et tous les enfants qui étaient avec lui.
23 And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over. The king himself also passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over toward the way of the wilderness.
Toute la contrée pleurait et poussait des cris au passage de tout ce peuple. Le roi ayant passé le torrent de Cédron, tout le peuple passa vis-à-vis du chemin du désert.
24 And, lo, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar went up until all the people had finished passing out of the city.
Et voici que Sadoc, et avec lui tous les lévites qui portaient l’arche de l’alliance de Dieu, déposèrent l’arche de Dieu, tandis qu’Abiathar montait, jusqu’à ce que tout le peuple eut achevé de sortir de la ville.
25 And the king said to Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city. If I shall find favor in the eyes of Jehovah he will bring me again, and show me both it, and his habitation.
Alors le roi dit à Sadoc: « Reporte l’arche de Dieu dans la ville. Si je trouve grâce aux yeux de Yahweh, il me ramènera et me fera voir l’arche et sa demeure.
26 But if he says thus, I have no delight in thee, behold, here I am. Let him do to me as seems good to him.
Mais s’il dit: Je n’ai pas de plaisir en toi, — me voici: qu’il me traite comme il lui semblera bon. »
27 The king said also to Zadok the priest, Are thou not a seer? Return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
Le roi dit encore au prêtre Sadoc: « O toi, voyant, retourne en paix dans la ville, avec Achimaas, ton fils, et Jonathas, fils d’Abiathar: vos deux fils avec vous.
28 See, I will remain at the fords of the wilderness until there comes word from you to report to me.
Voyez! Moi j’attendrai dans les plaines du désert, jusqu’à ce qu’il m’arrive un mot de vous qui me renseigne. »
29 Therefore Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem, and they abode there.
Sadoc et Abiathar reportèrent donc l’arche de Dieu à Jérusalem, et ils y restèrent.
30 And David went up by the ascent of the mount of Olives, and wept as he went up, and he had his head covered, and went barefoot. And all the people who were with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.
David gravissait la colline des Oliviers; il montait en pleurant, la tête voilée, et il marchait nu-pieds; et tout le peuple qui était avec lui avait aussi la tête couverte, et ils montaient en pleurant.
31 And it was told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Jehovah, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.
On apporta à David cette nouvelle: « Achitophel est avec Absalom parmi les conjurés. » Et David dit: « Yahweh réduisez à néant, je vous prie, les conseils d’Achitophel. »
32 And it came to pass, that, when David came to the top of the ascent, where God was worshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat torn, and dirt upon his head.
Lorsque David fut arrivé au sommet, là où l’on adore Dieu, voici que Chusaï l’Arachite vint au-devant de lui, la tunique déchirée et de la terre sur la tête.
33 And David said to him, If thou pass on with me, then thou will be a burden to me,
David lui dit: « Si tu passes avec moi, tu me seras à charge.
34 but if thou return to the city, and say to Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king. As I have been thy father's servant in time past, so I will now be thy servant, then thou will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.
Mais si, retournant dans la ville, tu dis à Absalom: O roi, je veux être ton serviteur; j’ai été le serviteur de ton père autrefois, je serai maintenant le tien, — tu déjoueras en ma faveur le conseil d’Achitophel.
35 And have thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? Therefore it shall be, that whatever thing thou shall hear out of the king's house, thou shall tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.
Tu auras là avec toi les prêtres Sadoc et Abiathar, et tout ce que tu apprendras de la maison du roi, tu le feras savoir aux prêtres Sadoc et Abiathar.
36 Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son. And by them ye shall send to me everything that ye shall hear.
Et comme ils ont auprès d’eux leurs deux fils, Achimaas, fils de Sadoc, et Jonathas, fils d’Abiathar, vous m’informerez par eux de tout ce que vous aurez appris. »
37 So Hushai, David's friend, came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
Et Chusaï, ami de David, retourna à la ville, au même temps qu’Absalom faisait son entrée à Jérusalem.
