2 Samuel 14

1 Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom.

Joab, Serujas Sohn, merkte nun, daß sich des Königs Herz Absalom zuneigte!

2 And Joab sent to Tekoa, and fetched from there a wise woman, and said to her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel, I pray thee, and do not anoint thyself with oil, but be as a woman who has a long time mourned for the dead.

Da schickte Joab nach Tekoa und ließ von dort ein kluges Weib holen. Er sprach zu ihr: "Stell dich trauernd und zieh Trauerkleider an! Salbe dich nicht mit Öl, sondern sei wie ein Weib, das geraume Zeit um einen Toten trauert!

3 And go in to the king, and speak on this manner to him. So Joab put the words in her mouth.

Geh zum König und sprich zu ihm dies!" Nun legte ihr Joab die Worte in den Mund.

4 And when the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, Help, O king.

Das Weib von Tekoa kam zum König, warf sich auf ihr Antlitz, huldigte und sprach: "Hilf, König!"

5 And the king said to her, What troubles thee? And she answered, Of a truth I am a widow, and my husband is dead.

Da sprach der König zu ihr: "Was ist dir?" Sie sprach: "Leider bin ich eine Witwe, starb doch mein Mann.

6 And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and killed him.

Deine Sklavin hatte zwei Söhne. Aber sie stritten miteinander auf dem Felde, und niemand schlichtete zwischen ihnen. So schlug der eine den anderen und tötete ihn.

7 And, behold, the whole family is risen against thy handmaid, and they say, Deliver him who smote his brother that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he killed, and so destroy the heir also. Thus they will quench my coal which is left, and will leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the face of the earth.

Nun erhebt sich die ganze Sippe gegen deine Sklavin und ruft: 'Gib den Brudermörder heraus, daß wir ihn töten für das Leben seines Bruders, den er erschlagen hat. Wir wollen so zugleich den Erben beseitigen.' So wollen sie meine letzte Kohle löschen und meinem Manne nicht Namen noch Nachkommen auf Erden lassen."

8 And the king said to the woman, Go to thy house, and I will give charge concerning thee.

Da sprach der König zum Weibe: "Geh heim! Ich werde deinetwegen verfügen."

9 And the woman of Tekoa said to the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house, and the king and his throne be guiltless.

Da sprach das Weib von Tekoa zum König: "Mich, Herr und König, träfe das Unrecht, und meine Familie. Der König und sein Thron aber bleiben unangetastet."

10 And the king said, Whoever says anything to thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.

Da sprach der König: "Wenn jemand so zu dir spricht, dann melde mir ihn! Er soll dich nicht mehr antasten!"

11 Then she said, I pray thee, let the king remember Jehovah thy God, that the avenger of blood not destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As Jehovah lives, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.

Sie sprach: "Möchte doch der König an den Herrn, seinen Gott, denken - sonst könnte der Bluträcher zuviel verderben -, daß sie nicht meinen Sohn umbringen!" Da sprach er: "So wahr der Herr lebt! Nicht ein Haar deines Sohnes soll zu Boden fallen!"

12 Then the woman said, Let thy handmaid, I pray thee, speak a word to my lord the king. And he said, Say on.

Da sprach das Weib: "Dürfte doch deine Sklavin an meinen Herrn und König ein Wort richten!" Er sprach: "Sprich!"

13 And the woman said, Why then have thou devised such a thing against the people of God? For in speaking this word the king is as he who is guilty, in that the king does not fetch home again his banished one.

Da sprach das Weib: "Warum sinnst du Ähnliches gegen Gottes Volk? Aus dieser Rede des Königs geht hervor, daß es an Sünde grenzt, wenn der König seinen Verbannten nicht zurückruft.

14 For we must die, and are as water split on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again, neither does God take away life, but devises means that he who is banished be not an outcast from him.

Sterben wir, so werden wir wie Wasser, das, auf den Boden geschüttet, nicht mehr gesammelt werden kann. Aber Gott nimmt nicht das Leben weg, sondern faßt Pläne, damit ein Verbannter nicht zu unserem Schaden verbannt bleibe.

15 Now therefore seeing that I have come to speak this word to my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid. And thy handmaid said, I will now speak to the king. It may be that the king will perform the request of his servant.

Daß ich jetzt gekommen bin, dies dem König, meinem Herrn, zu sagen, das kommt davon, daß mir das Volk Angst gemacht hat. Deine Sklavin aber sagte: 'Ich will doch mit dem König reden. Vielleicht tut der König, was seine Magd sagt.'

16 For the king will hear to deliver his servant out of the hand of the man who would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.

Weil der König die Bitte gewährt, seine Magd aus der Hand des Mannes zu retten, der mich und meinen Sohn zugleich aus Gottes Erbe zu tilgen sucht,

17 Then thy handmaid said, Let, I pray thee, the word of my lord the king be gracious, for as an agent of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad. And Jehovah thy God be with thee.

So dachte deine Sklavin: 'Möchte doch das Wort meines Herrn und Königs zur Beruhigung dienen!' Denn wie ein Gottesengel ist mein Herr und König, wenn er Gutes und Böses anhört. Der Herr, dein Gott, sei mit dir!"

18 Then the king answered and said to the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, anything that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak.

Da hob der König an und sprach zu dem Weibe: "Verhehle mir nichts von dem, was ich dich frage!" Da sprach das Weib: "Es spreche doch mein Herr und König!"

19 And the king said, Is the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul lives, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken, for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thy handmaid.

Da sprach der König:"Hat Joab dir bei alldem geholfen?" Da hob das Weib an und sprach: "So wahr du lebst, mein Herr und König! Unmöglich ist es, rechts oder links vorbeizukommen an irgend etwas, was mein Herr und König spricht. Ja, dein Diener Joab selbst hat mir den Auftrag gegeben. Er hat deiner Sklavin alle jene Worte in den Mund gelegt.

20 Thy servant Joab has done this thing to change the face of the matter. And my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an agent of God, to know all things that are on the earth.

Um der Sache ein anderes Gesicht zu geben, hat dein Diener Joab dies getan. Aber mein Herr ist weise wie ein Gottesengel; er weiß alles, was im Lande vorgeht."

21 And the king said to Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing. Go therefore, bring the young man Absalom back.

Da sprach der König zu Joab: "Das hast du getan. So geh und hole den Jüngling Absalom!"

22 And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and did obeisance, and blessed the king. And Joab said, Today thy servant knows that I have found favor in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has performed the request of his servant.

Da warf sich Joab auf sein Antlitz zur Erde, huldigte und segnete den König. Dann sprach Joab: "Heute erfährt dein Sklave, daß ich Huld gefunden in deinen Augen, mein Herr und König, weil der König das Wort seines Sklaven erfüllt."

23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

Dann stand Joab auf, ging nach Gesur und brachte Absalom nach Jerusalem.

24 And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, but let him not see my face. So Absalom turned to his own house, and did not see the king's face.

Der König aber sprach: "Er gehe in sein Haus! Mein Antlitz darf er nicht sehen!" So ging Absalom in sein Haus. Aber des Königs Antlitz sah er nicht.

25 Now in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty; from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

So schön aber wie Absalom war in ganz Israel kein Mann, so daß man ihn sehr rühmte. Von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel war kein Makel an ihm.

26 And when he cut the hair of his head (now it was at every year's end that he cut it, because it was heavy on him, therefore he cut it), he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels, after the king's weight.

Und wenn er sein Haupt schor, und er schor es von Zeit zu Zeit - weil es ihm beschwerlich ward, schor er es -, so wog das ganze Haar seines Hauptes zweihundert Ringe nach königlichem Gewicht.

27 And to Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter whose name was Tamar. She was a woman of a fair countenance.

Absalom aber wurden drei Söhne und eine Tochter, namens Tamar, geboren. Diese ward ein schönes Weib.

28 And Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and he did not see the king's face.

Da saß Absalom zu Jerusalem zwei Jahre. Des Königs Antlitz aber hatte er nicht gesehen.

29 Then Absalom sent for Joab to send him to the king, but he would not come to him. And he sent again a second time, but he would not come.

Da sandte Absalom zu Joab, ihn zum König zu schicken; er aber wollte nicht kommen. So schickte er noch ein zweitesmal. Aber er wollte nicht kommen.

30 Therefore he said to his servants, See, Joab's field is near mine, and he has barley there. Go and set it on fire. And Absalom's servants set the field on fire.

Da sprach er zu seinen Dienern: "Seht! Joab hat ein Feld neben meinem Grundstück und hat Gerste darauf. Geht und steckt es in Brand!" Und Absaloms Diener steckten das Feld in Brand.

31 Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom to his house, and said to him, Why have thy servants set my field on fire?

Da machte sich Joab auf, ging zu Absalom ins Haus und sprach zu ihm: "Weshalb haben deine Diener mein Feld in Brand gesteckt?"

32 And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent to thee, saying, Come here, that I may send thee to the king to say, Why have I come from Geshur? It were better for me to still be there. Now therefore let me see the king's face, and if there be iniquity in me, let him kill me.

Da sprach Absalom zu Joab: "Ich habe zu dir gesandt und sagen lassen: 'Komm her!' Ich möchte dich zum König senden und sagen lassen: 'Wozu bin ich von Gesur heimgekommen? Mir wäre wohler, wäre ich noch dort.' Nun aber möchte ich des Königs Antlitz sehen. Liegt eine Schuld auf mir, so töte er mich!"

33 So Joab came to the king, and told him. And when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king. And the king kissed Absalom.

So kam Joab zum König und meldete es ihm. Und er ließ Absalom rufen. So kam er zum König. Da warf er sich auf sein Antlitz zur Erde vor dem König nieder, und der König küßte Absalom.
