2 Samuel 11
1 And it came to pass, at the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel. And they destroyed the sons of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.
૧વસંતઋતુમાં જયારે બધા રાજાઓ સામાન્ય રીતે યુદ્ધ કરવા માટે બહાર જતા હતા, ત્યારે દાઉદે યોઆબને, તેના ચાકરોને તથા ઇઝરાયલના સૈન્યને મોકલ્યું. તેઓએ આમ્મોનીઓનો નાશ કર્યો અને રાબ્બાને ઘેરી લીધું. પણ દાઉદ યરુશાલેમમાં જ રહ્યો.
2 And it came to pass at evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.
૨એક સાંજે દાઉદ પોતાના પલંગ ઉપરથી ઊઠીને રાજમહેલની છત ઉપર ચાલતો હતો. ત્યાંથી એટલે કે છત પરથી તેણે એક સ્ત્રીને સ્નાન કરતા જોઈ. તે સ્ત્રી દેખાવમાં ઘણી સુંદર હતી.
3 And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
૩તેથી દાઉદે માણસ મોકલીને જેઓ તે સ્ત્રી વિષે જાણતા હતા તેઓને પૂછપરછ કરાવી. તો કોઈએકે કહ્યું, “શું એ એલીઆમની દીકરી, ઉરિયા હિત્તીની પત્ની બાથશેબા નથી?”
4 And David sent messengers, and took her. And she came in to him, and he lay with her (for she was purified from her uncleanness), and she returned to her house.
૪દાઉદે સંદેશાવાહકો મોકલીને તેને તેડી મંગાવી; તે તેની પાસે આવી અને તે તેની સાથે સૂઈ ગયો તે પોતાની માસિક અશુદ્ધતામાંથી શુદ્ધ થઈ હતી. પછી તે પોતાને ઘરે પાછી ગઈ.
5 And the woman conceived. And she sent and told David, and said, I am with child.
૫તે સ્ત્રીને ગર્ભ રહ્યો, તેણે માણસ મોકલીને દાઉદને કહાવ્યું કે; “હું ગર્ભવતી છું.”
6 And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.
૬પછી દાઉદે યોઆબની પાસે માણસ મોકલીને કહાવ્યું કે, “ઉરિયા હિત્તીને મારી પાસે મોકલ.” તેથી યોઆબે ઉરિયાને દાઉદ પાસે મોકલ્યો.
7 And when Uriah came to him, David asked of him how Joab did, and how the people fared, and how the war prospered.
૭ઉરિયા તેની પાસે આવ્યો ત્યારે દાઉદે તેને પૂછ્યું, યોઆબ કેમ છે? સૈન્યની શી ખબર છે? યુદ્ધ કેવું ચાલે છે?
8 And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and a gift from the king followed him.
૮પછી ઉરિયાને દાઉદને કહ્યું કે, “તારે ઘરે જા અને વિશ્રામ કર.” તેથી ઉરિયા રાજાના મહેલમાંથી ગયો અને તેના ગયા પછી રાજા તરફથી ઉરિયાને માટે ભેટ મોકલવામાં આવી.
9 But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and did not go down to his house.
૯પણ ઉરિયા ઘરે જવાને બદલે રાજાના મહેલનાં દરવાજા પાસે રાજાના ચાકરોની સાથે સૂઈ રહ્યો. તે પોતાના ઘરે ગયો નહિ.
10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah did not go down to his house, David said to Uriah, Have thou not come from a journey? Why did thou not go down to thy house?
૧૦દાઉદને જણાવવાંમાં આવ્યું કે, “ઉરિયા પોતાને ઘરે ગયો નથી,” તેથી દાઉદે ઉરિયાને કહ્યું કે, “શું તું મુસાફરીએથી આવ્યો નથી? તો તું શા માટે તારે ઘરે ગયો નહિ?”
11 And Uriah said to David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in booths, and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As thou live, and as thy soul lives, I will not do this thing.
૧૧ઉરિયાએ દાઉદને જવાબ આપ્યો, “કરારકોશ, ઇઝરાયલ અને યહૂદા તંબુઓમાં રહે છે અને મારો માલિક સેનાપતિ યોઆબ અને તેના દાસો ખુલ્લાં મેદાનમાં છાવણીમાં રહે છે. તો હું કેવી રીતે ખાવા, પીવા અને મારી સ્ત્રી સાથે સૂવા મારે ઘરે જાઉં? તમારા અને તમારા જીવના સમ, હું એ પ્રમાણે કરનાર નથી.”
12 And David said to Uriah, Remain here today also, and tomorrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.
૧૨તેથી દાઉદે ઉરિયાને કહ્યું કે, “આજે પણ અહીં રહે અને કાલે હું તને જવા દઈશ.” તેથી ઉરિયા તે દિવસે અને તે પછીના દિવસે યરુશાલેમમાં રહ્યો.
13 And when David had called him, he ate and drank before him, and he made him drunk. And at evening he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but did not go down to his house.
૧૩દાઉદે તેને બોલાવ્યો, તેણે તેની આગળ ખાધું, પીધું. દાઉદે તેને નશો કરાવ્યો. તે સાંજે પણ તે પોતાના પલંગ પર દાઉદના ચાકરો સાથે સૂવાને ગયો; પણ પોતાને ઘરે ગયો નહી.
14 And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.
૧૪તેથી સવારમાં દાઉદે યોઆબ ઉપર પત્ર લખ્યો અને તે પત્ર ઉરિયાની મારફતે મોકલ્યો.
15 And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
૧૫દાઉદે પત્રમાં એમ લખ્યું કે, “ઉરિયાને દારુણ યુદ્ધમાં સૌથી આગળ રાખજે અને પછી તેની પાસેથી તમે દૂર ખસી જજો, જેથી તે દુશ્મનોના પ્રહારથી માર્યો જાય.”
16 And it came to pass, when Joab kept watch upon the city, that he assigned Uriah to the place where he knew that valiant men were.
૧૬યોઆબે નગર ઉપર ઘેરાબંધી કરી હતી, તેણે ઉરિયાને એવી જગ્યાએ ફરજ સોંપી કે જે વિષે તે જાણતો હતો કે ત્યાં શત્રુઓના શૂરવીર સૈનિકોનો મારો રહેવાનો છે.
17 And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab. And there fell some of the people, even of the servants of David, and Uriah the Hittite died also.
૧૭જયારે નગરના માણસો બહાર આવીને યોઆબના સૈન્ય સાથે લડ્યા, ત્યારે દાઉદના સૈનિકોમાંથી કેટલાક મરણ પામ્યા અને ત્યાં ઉરિયા હિત્તી પણ માર્યો ગયો.
18 Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war.
૧૮યોઆબે યુદ્ધ વિષેના અહેવાલ આપવા દાઉદ સંદેશાવાહકોને મોકલી.
19 And he charged the messenger, saying, When thou have made an end of telling all the things concerning the war to the king,
૧૯ત્યારે તેણે સંદેશાવાહકને આજ્ઞા આપી કહાવ્યું હતું કે, જયારે તુંપાસે યુદ્ધની સર્વ બાબતો રાજાને કહી રહે,
20 it shall be that, if the king's wrath arise, and he says to thee, Why did ye go so near to the city to fight? Did ye not know that they would shoot from the wall?
૨૦ત્યાર પછી જો કે રાજા ક્રોધે ભરાય અને તને એમ કહે કે, “લડવા સારું નગરની એટલી બધી નજીક તમે કેમ ગયા? શું તમે નહોતા જાણતા, કે તેઓ કોટ પરથી હુમલો કરશે?
21 Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Did not a woman cast an upper millstone upon him from the wall so that he died at Thebez? Why did ye go so near the wall? Then thou shall say, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
૨૧યરૂબ્બેશેથના દીકરા અબીમેલેખેને કોણે માર્યો? શું એક સ્ત્રીએ કોટ ઉપરથી ઘંટીનું ઉપલું પડ નાખ્યું તેથી તે તેબેસમાં મરણ નહોતો પામ્યો? શા માટે તમે કોટની એટલી નજીક ગયા?’ પછી તારે ઉત્તર આપવો કે, ‘તારો દાસ ઉરિયા હિત્તી પણ માર્યો ગયો છે.’”
22 So the messenger went, and came and told David all that Joab had sent him.
૨૨પછી સંદેશાવાહક ત્યાંથી નીકળી અને દાઉદ પાસે ગયો. યોઆબે તેને જે કહેવા મોકલ્યો હતો તે સર્વ બાબતો તેણે દાઉદને કહી.
23 And the messenger said to David, The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field, and we were upon them even to the entrance of the gate.
૨૩તેણે દાઉદને કહ્યું, “આપણે બળવાન હતા તેનાથી પણ વધારે બળવાન શત્રુઓ હતા; તેઓ અમારી સમક્ષ મેદાનમાં આવ્યા પણ અમે દરવાજાના પ્રવેશદ્વારેથી જ તેમને પાછા પાડ્યા.
24 And the shooters shot at thy servants from off the wall. And some of the king's servants are dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
૨૪અને તેના ધનુર્ધારીઓએ કોટ ઉપરથી અમારા પર તીરંદાજી કરી. અને અમારામાંથી કેટલાક માર્યા ગયા અને રાજાના દાસ ઉરિયા હિત્તી પણ માર્યો ગયો.”
25 Then David said to the messenger, Thus thou shall say to Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make thy battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it. And encourage thou him.
૨૫પછી દાઉદે સંદેશાવાહકને કહ્યું કે, “યોઆબને આમ કહેજે કે, ‘એથી તું દુઃખી ન થતો, કેમ કે તલવાર તો જેમ એકનો તેમ જ બીજાનો પણ નાશ કરે છે. તું નગર વિરુદ્ધ સખત યુદ્ધ કરીને, તેનો પરાજય કરજે.’ અને તું યોઆબને હિંમત આપજે.”
26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she made lamentation for her husband.
૨૬જયારે ઉરિયાની પત્નીએ સાંભળ્યું કે, તેનો પતિ ઉરિયા યુદ્ધમાં મરણ પામ્યો છે, ત્યારે તેણે પોતાના પતિને માટે વિલાપ કર્યો.
27 And when the mourning was past, David sent and took her home to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased Jehovah.
૨૭જયારે તેના શોકના દિવસો પૂરા થયા ત્યારે દાઉદે માણસ મોકલીને તેને તેના ઘરેથી મહેલમાં તેડાવી લીધી. અને તે તેની પત્ની થઈ. તેણે પુત્રને જન્મ આપ્યો. પણ દાઉદે જે કર્યું હતું તે ઈશ્વરની દ્રષ્ટિમાં દુષ્ટ હતું.
