2 Samuel 10
1 And it came to pass after this, that the king of the sons of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his stead.
Después de esto aconteció, que murió el rey de los hijos de Ammón, y reinó por él Hanón su hijo.
2 And David said, I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me. So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the sons of Ammon.
Y dijo David: Yo haré misericordia con Hanón, hijo de Naas, como su padre la hizo conmigo. Y David envió sus siervos a consolarle por su padre. Y venidos los siervos de David a la tierra de los hijos de Ammón,
3 But the rulers of the sons of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, Think thou that David honors thy father, in that he has sent comforters to thee? Has not David sent his servants to thee to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
Los príncipes de los hijos de Ammón dijeron a Hanón su señor: ¿Honra David a tu padre a tu parecer, que te ha enviado consoladores? ¿No ha enviado David sus siervos a ti por reconocer y considerar la ciudad, para destruirla?
4 So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
Entonces Hanón tomó los siervos de David, y rapóles la media barba, y cortóles los vestidos por la mitad hasta las nalgas, y los envió.
5 When they told it to David, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
Lo cual como fue hecho saber a David, envió delante de ellos, porque ellos estaban grandemente avergonzados, y dijo el rey: Estáos en Jericó, hasta que os torne a nacer la barba, y entonces volveréis.
6 And when the sons of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the sons of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
Y viendo los hijos de Ammón que se habían hecho odiosos con David, enviaron los hijos de Ammón, y dieron sueldo a los Siros de la casa de Roob, y a los Siros de Soba, veinte mil hombres de a pie, y del rey de Maaca mil hombres, y de Is-tob doce mil hombres.
7 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men.
Lo cual como David oyó, envió a Joab con todo el ejército de los valientes.
8 And the sons of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate. And the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
Y saliendo los hijos de Ammón, ordenaron sus escuadrones a la entrada de la puerta; mas los Siros de Soba, y de Roob, y de Is-tob, y de Maaca ordenaron por sí en el campo.
9 Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him in front and behind, he chose from all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.
Viendo pues Joab que había escuadrones delante y detrás de él, escogió de todos los escogidos de Israel, y púsose en orden contra los Siros.
10 And the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother. And he put them in array against the sons of Ammon.
Y lo que quedó del pueblo, entregó en mano de Abisaí su hermano, y púsolo en orden para encontrar a los Ammonitas.
11 And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shall help me, but if the sons of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
Y dijo: Si los Siros me fueren superiores, tú me ayudarás: Y si los hijos de Ammón pudieren más que tú, yo te daré ayuda.
12 Be of good courage, and let us play the man for our people, and for the cities of our God. And Jehovah do that which seems good to him.
Esfuérzate y esforcémosnos por nuestro pueblo y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios: y haga Jehová lo que bien le pareciere.
13 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the battle against the Syrians. And they fled before him.
Y acercóse Joab, y el pueblo que estaba con él, para pelear con los Siros, mas ellos huyeron delante de él.
14 And when the sons of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the sons of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
Entonces los hijos de Ammón viendo que los Siros habían huido, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisaí, y entráronse en la ciudad. Y volvió Joab de los hijos de Ammón, y vínose a Jerusalem.
15 And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
Y viendo los Siros que habían caído delante de Israel, tornáronse a juntar:
16 And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River, and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadarezer at their head.
Y envió Adarezer, y sacó los Siros que estaban de la otra parte del río, los cuales vinieron a Helán, llevando por capitán a Sobac general del ejército de Adarezer.
17 And it was told David. And he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
Y fue dado aviso a David, y juntó a todo Israel, y pasando el Jordán vino a Helán: y los Siros se pusieron en orden contra David, y pelearon con él.
18 And the Syrians fled before Israel. And David killed of the Syrians the men of seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their army so that he died there.
Mas los Siros huyeron delante de Israel: e hirió David de los Siros sietecientos carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de a caballo: e hirió al mismo Sobac general del ejército, y murió allí.
19 And when all the kings who were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the sons of Ammon any more.
Y viendo todos los reyes, siervos de Adarezer, que habían caído delante de Israel, hicieron paz con Israel, y sirviéronles: y de allí adelante temieron los Siros de socorrer a los hijos de Ammón.
