2 Kings 18

1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.

ஏலாவின் மகனான இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசன் ஓசெயாவின் ஆட்சியின் மூன்றாம் வருடத்தில் ஆகாஸின் மகன் எசேக்கியா யூதாவை ஆட்சி செய்யத் தொடங்கினான்.

2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.

அவன் அரசனானபோது இருபத்தைந்து வயதுள்ளவனாயிருந்தான். இவன் எருசலேமில் இருபத்தொன்பது வருடங்கள் ஆட்சிசெய்தான். இவனுடைய தாய் சகரியாவின் மகளான அபியாள் என்பவள்.

3 And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that David his father had done.

எசேக்கியா தன் முற்பிதா தாவீது செய்ததுபோல, யெகோவாவின் பார்வையில் சரியானதைச் செய்தான்.

4 He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah, and he broke in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made. For to those days the sons of Israel burned incense to it, and he called it Nehushtan.

வழிபாட்டு மேடைகளை அகற்றி, புனித தூண்களை நொறுக்கி, அசேரா விக்கிரக தூண்களை வீழ்த்தினான். அத்துடன் மோசே செய்த வெண்கலப் பாம்பைத் துண்டுதுண்டாக உடைத்தான். அன்றுவரை இஸ்ரயேலர்கள் அதற்குத் தூபங்காட்டி வந்தனர். அது நெகுஸ்தான் என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது.

5 He trusted in Jehovah, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.

எசேக்கியா இஸ்ரயேலின் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவை மிகவும் உறுதியாக நம்பியிருந்தான். யூதா அரசர்களில் அவனைப்போல் ஒருவரும் அவனுக்கு முன்போ, பின்போ இருந்ததில்லை.

6 For he clung to Jehovah. He did not depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which Jehovah commanded Moses.

அவன் யெகோவாவை உறுதியாகப் பிடித்தவனாக அவரைப் பின்பற்றுவதைவிட்டு ஒருபோதும் விலகியதில்லை. மோசேக்கு யெகோவா கொடுத்த கட்டளைகளைக் கைக்கொண்டு நடந்தான்.

7 And Jehovah was with him. Wherever he went forth he prospered. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and did not serve him.

யெகோவா அவனோடுகூட இருந்தார். அவன் எதைச் செய்தாலும் அவனுக்கு வெற்றியாகவே இருந்தது. அவன் அசீரியா அரசனுக்கு எதிராகக் கலகம்பண்ணி, அவனுக்குப் பணிசெய்ய மறுத்தான்.

8 He smote the Philistines to Gaza and the borders of it, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.

அவன் பெலிஸ்தியருடன் போரிட்டு, காவற்கோபுரம் தொடங்கி அரணான பட்டணம்வரை காசாவின் எல்லைவரை அவர்களைத் துரத்தினான்.

9 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.

எசேக்கியா அரசனாக வந்த நான்காம் வருடம், ஏலாவின் மகனான இஸ்ரயேல் அரசன் ஓசெயாவின் ஏழாம் வருடமாயிருந்தது. அந்த வருடத்தில் அசீரிய அரசன் சல்மனாசார் சமாரியாவுக்கு எதிராக அணிவகுத்து அதை முற்றுகையிட்டான்.

10 And at the end of three years they took it. Samaria was taken in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel.

மூன்று வருடங்களுக்குப் பின்பு அசீரியர் சமாரியாவைக் கைப்பற்றினார்கள். அந்த வருடம் எசேக்கியாவின் ஆறாம் வருட ஆட்சியும், இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசனாகிய ஓசெயாவின் ஒன்பதாம் வருட ஆட்சியுமாயிருந்தது.

11 And the king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,

அப்போது அசீரிய அரசன், இஸ்ரயேலரை அங்கிருந்து அசீரியாவுக்கு நாடுகடத்தி, அவர்களைக் ஆலாகிலும், ஆபோர் ஆற்றுக்கு அருகே இருக்கும் கோசானிலும், மேதியரின் பட்டணங்களிலும் குடியேற்றினான்.

12 because they did not obey the voice of Jehovah their God, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded, and would not hear it, nor do it.

இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமல் அவருடைய உடன்படிக்கையை மீறியதால்தான் இவை நடந்தன. யெகோவாவின் அடியவனாகிய மோசே கொடுத்த கட்டளைகளுக்கு அவர்கள் செவிகொடுக்கவுமில்லை, அவற்றின்படி நடக்கவுமில்லை.

13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.

எசேக்கியா அரசனின் ஆட்சியின் பதினான்காம் வருடத்திலே, அசீரியா அரசன் சனகெரிப், யூதாவின் அரண்செய்யப்பட்ட பட்டணங்களையெல்லாம் தாக்கிக் கைப்பற்றினான்.

14 And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended. Return from me. That which thou put on me I will bear. And the king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

யூதாவின் அரசனாகிய எசேக்கியா, லாகீசிலுள்ள அசீரிய அரசனுக்கு அனுப்பிய செய்தியாவது: “நான் பிழை செய்தேன். என்னைவிட்டுப் போய்விடும். நீர் கேட்பது எதையும் நான் கொடுக்கிறேன்” என்பதாகும். அப்பொழுது அசீரிய அரசன் எசேக்கியாவிடம் முந்நூறு தாலந்து வெள்ளியையும், முப்பது தாலந்து தங்கத்தையும் தனக்காகப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டான்.

15 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house.

அப்படியே எசேக்கியா யெகோவாவின் ஆலயத்திலும், அரண்மனைத் திரவிய அறைகளிலும் இருந்த எல்லா வெள்ளியையும் கொடுத்தான்.

16 At that time Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of Jehovah, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

அத்துடன் அவ்வேளையில் யூதாவின் அரசனான எசேக்கியா யெகோவாவின் ஆலயத்தின் கதவுகளையும், கதவு நிலைகளையும், தகடாக மூடிச்செய்திருந்த தங்கத்தையும் கழற்றி எடுத்து அசீரிய அரசனிடம் கொடுத்தான்.

17 And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they came up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is on the highway of the fuller's field.

ஆனாலும் அசீரிய அரசன் தனது பிரதான தளபதியையும், தலைமை அதிகாரியையும், படைத்தளபதியையும் ஒரு பெரிய இராணுவப் படையுடன் லாகீசிலிருந்து எருசலேமிலிருந்த எசேக்கியா அரசனிடம் அனுப்பினான். அவர்கள் எருசலேமுக்கு வந்து வண்ணார்துறையின் வழியிலுள்ள மேல்குளத்து வாய்க்காலண்டையில் போய் நின்றார்கள்.

18 And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

அவர்கள் அரசனை அங்கே வரும்படி அழைத்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது இல்க்கியாவின் மகனான அரண்மனை நிர்வாகி எலியாக்கீமும், செயலாளராகிய செப்னாவும், பதிவாளனாகிய ஆசாபின் மகன் யோவாக்கும் அவர்களிடத்திற்கு வெளியே போனார்கள்.

19 And Rabshakeh said to them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this in which thou trust?

படைத்தளபதி அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் எசேக்கியாவுக்குச் சொல்லவேண்டியதாவது: “‘பேரரசனாகிய அசீரியா அரசன் சொல்வது இதுவே: நீ உனது நம்பிக்கையை எந்த அடிப்படையில் இவ்வளவு உறுதியாக வைத்திருக்கிறாய்?

20 Thou say (but they are but vain words), There is counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom do thou trust that thou have rebelled against me?

உன்னிடம் போர் தந்திரமும், இராணுவ பெலனும் இருக்கிறதென்று சொல்லிக்கொள்கிறாய். ஆனால் அதெல்லாம் வெறும் வாய்ப்பேச்சுதான். நீ என்னை எதிர்த்துக் கலகம் செய்ய யாரைச் சார்ந்திருக்கிறாய்?

21 Now, behold, thou trust upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man leans it will go into his hand, and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.

இதோ, முறிக்கப்பட்ட நாணல் தண்டாகிய எகிப்தையா நீ நம்பியிருக்கிறாய்? அந்த நாணலில் சாய்ந்துகொள்கிற எவனுடைய கையையும் அது உருவக்குத்தி அவனைக் காயப்படுத்தும். எகிப்திய அரசனான பார்வோன் தன்னை நம்பியிருக்கிற யாவருக்கும் அப்படியே இருக்கிறான்.

22 But if ye say to me, We trust in Jehovah our God, is that not he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

“நாங்கள் எங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவையே நம்பியிருக்கிறோம்” என்று என்பாயாகில், “எருசலேமிலிருக்கிற இந்தப் பலிபீடத்தில் மட்டும்தான் வழிபடவேண்டும்” என்று, யூதாவுக்கும் எருசலேமில் உள்ளவர்களுக்கும் சொல்லி, எசேக்கியாவே அவருடைய வழிபாட்டு மேடைகளையும் பலிபீடங்களையும் அகற்றினான் அல்லவா?

23 Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

“‘எனவே வாரும், அசீரிய அரசனாகிய எனது தலைவனுடன் பேரம் ஒன்று பேசுவோம்: சவாரி பண்ணத்தக்க வீரர்களை உன்னால் தேடிக்கொள்ள முடியுமானால், நான் உனக்கு இரண்டாயிரம் குதிரைகளைத் தருவேன்.

24 How then can thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

தேர்களுக்காவும், குதிரைவீரர்களுக்காகவும் எகிப்தை நம்பியிருந்தாலுங்கூட, எனது தலைவனுடைய சிறிய அதிகாரிகளில் ஒருவனையேனும் எதிர்த்துத் துரத்த உங்களால் எப்படி முடியும்?

25 Have I now come up without Jehovah against this place to destroy it? Jehovah said to me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.

யெகோவாவின் சம்மதமில்லாமலா நான் இந்த இடத்தை அழிக்க வந்தேன்? யெகோவா தாமே இந்த நாட்டுக்கு எதிராக அணிவகுத்துச்சென்று இதை அழிக்கும்படி என்னிடம் கூறினார்’” என்றான்.

26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. And do not speak with us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people who are on the wall.

அப்பொழுது இல்க்கியாவின் மகன் எலியாக்கீமும், செப்னாவும், யோவாக்கும், அசீரிய படைத்தளபதியிடம், “உமது அடியாரிடம் அராமிய மொழியில் பேசும்; அது எங்களுக்குப் புரியும். மதிலின்மேல் உள்ளவர்களுக்குக் கேட்கும்படி எபிரெய மொழியில் பேசவேண்டாம்” என்றார்கள்.

27 But Rabshakeh said to them, Has my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? Has he not sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?

ஆனால் அந்தப் படைத்தளபதியோ, “மதில்மேல் அமர்ந்திருப்பவர்களுக்கு அல்லாமல், உங்கள் தலைவருக்கும், உங்களுக்கும் மட்டுமா இவற்றைச் சொல்லும்படி எங்கள் தலைவர் என்னை அனுப்பியிருக்கிறார்? அவர்களும் உங்களுடன் தங்கள் மலத்தைத் தின்று, தங்கள் சிறுநீரைக் குடிக்கப் போகிறவர்களல்லவா” என்று பதிலளித்தான்.

28 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spoke, saying, Hear ye the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.

அதன்பின் அந்தத் தளபதி எழுந்து நின்று எபிரெய மொழியில் உரத்த சத்தமாய், “பேரரசனான அசீரிய அரசனின் வார்த்தையைக் கேளுங்கள்.

29 Thus says the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.

அரசன் கூறுவது இதுவே: எசேக்கியா உங்களை ஏமாற்றாதபடி பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள். என்னுடைய கையிலிருந்து உங்களை விடுவிக்க அவனால் முடியாது.

30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

எசேக்கியா உங்களிடம், ‘யெகோவா நிச்சயமாக நம்மை விடுவிப்பார், இந்தப் பட்டணமும் அசீரிய அரசனுடைய கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கப்பட மாட்டாது’ என்று சொல்லி, அவன் உங்களை யெகோவாவிடம் நம்பிக்கை வைக்கும்படி இணங்கவைக்க முயற்சிப்பான். அதற்கு நீங்கள் இடங்கொடுக்க வேண்டாம்.

31 Do not hearken to Hezekiah. For thus says the king of Assyria, Make your peace with me, and come out to me. And eat ye every man of his vine, and every man of his fig tree, and drink ye every man the waters of his own cistern,

“எசேக்கியாவின் சொல்லைக் கேளாதீர்கள். அசீரிய அரசன் கூறுவது இதுவே: என்னுடன் சமாதானமாகி, என்னிடம் வாருங்கள். அப்போது உங்களில் ஒவ்வொருவரும் தன்தன் திராட்சைக் கொடியிலிருந்தும், தன்தன் அத்திமரத்திலிருந்தும் கனியை சாப்பிட்டு, தன் சொந்தக் கிணற்றிலிருந்து தண்ணீரையும் குடிப்பான்.

32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that ye may live, and not die. And do not hearken to Hezekiah when he persuades you, saying, Jehovah will deliver us.

நான் திரும்ப வந்து தானியம் நிறைந்ததும், புதிய திராட்சை இரசம் உள்ளதும், அப்பமும் திராட்சைத் தோட்டங்களும், ஒலிவமரங்களும், தேனும் நிறைந்ததுமான உங்கள் நாட்டைப் போன்ற ஒரு நாட்டுக்கு உங்களைக் கொண்டுபோகும் வரைக்கும் நீங்கள் அப்படியே சாப்பிட்டுக் குடிப்பீர்கள். மரணத்தையல்ல வாழ்வையே தெரிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள். “எசேக்கியாவுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்க வேண்டாம். ‘யெகோவா எங்களை விடுவிப்பார்’ என்று கூறி உங்களைத் தவறாக வழிநடத்துகிறான்.

33 Have any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

எந்த நாட்டின் தெய்வங்களாவது அசீரிய அரசனின் கையிலிருந்து தன் நாட்டை எப்போதாவது மீட்டதுண்டோ?

34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

ஆமாத், அர்பாத்தின் தெய்வங்கள் எங்கே? செப்பர்வாயீம், ஏனா, இவ்வா என்னும் பட்டணங்களின் தெய்வங்கள் எங்கே? அவை எனது கரத்திலிருந்து சமாரியாவை விடுவித்தனவோ?

35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

இந்த நாடுகளின் தெய்வங்களில் என் கையிலிருந்து தங்கள் நாட்டை விடுவிக்கக்கூடியதாக இருந்த தெய்வம் எது? அப்படியிருக்க எனது கையிலிருந்து எருசலேமை யெகோவா எப்படி விடுவிப்பார்? என்கிறார்” என்றான்.

36 But the people were silent, and did not answer him a word, for the king's commandment was, saying, Do not answer him.

இவற்றுக்கெல்லாம் பதில் கொடுக்கக் கூடாதென்று அரசனால் கட்டளை கொடுக்கப்பட்டபடியினால், மக்கள் மவுனமாயிருந்து எவ்வித பதிலையும் அவனுக்குக் கொடுக்கவில்லை.

37 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

பின்பு அரண்மனை அதிகாரியான இல்க்கியாவின் மகன் எலியாக்கீமும், செயலாளராகிய செப்னாவும், பதிவாளனாகிய ஆசாப்பின் மகன் யோவாக்கும் உடைகளைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு, எசேக்கியாவிடம் போய் அசீரிய படைத்தளபதி கூறியவற்றைச் சொன்னார்கள்.
