2 Chronicles 2
1 Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.
Et Salomon ordonna que l'on bâtit un temple au nom du Seigneur; puis, pour lui-même, une demeure royale.
2 And Solomon counted out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, and eighty thousand men who were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them.
Il réunit soixante-dix mille manœuvres, quatre-vingt mille tailleurs de pierres qu'il envoya dans la montagne, et trois mille six cents conducteurs de leurs travaux.
3 And Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, As thou dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build for him a house to dwell therein, so with me.
Il dépêcha des messagers à Hiram, roi de Tyr, disant: Tu en as bien usé avec David, mon père, tu lui as envoyé des cèdres pour bâtir le palais qu'il devait habiter.
4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of Jehovah my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him incense of sweet spices, and for the continual showbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts of Jehovah our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel.
Or, voici que moi son fils, je bâtis un temple au nom du Seigneur mon Dieu, pour le lui consacrer, pour y brûler devant lui de l'encens, pour y exposer toujours les pains de proposition, pour y offrir les holocaustes du matin et du soir, ceux des sabbats, des nouvelles lunes, et des fêtes du Seigneur notre Dieu à perpétuité en Israël.
5 And the house which I build is great. For our God is great above all gods.
Le temple que je bâtis sera grand, parce que le Seigneur notre Dieu est grand plus que tous les dieux.
6 But who is able to build for him a house, seeing heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him? Who am I then, that I should build for him a house, except only to burn incense before him?
Mais, qui donc peut lui élever un temple? Car le ciel et le ciel des cieux ne contiennent pas sa gloire. Et moi, qui suis-je pour lui bâtir un temple, si ce n'est seulement pour sacrifier devant lui?
7 Now therefore send me a man skilful to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and who knows how to engrave engravings, to be with the skilful men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.
Envoie-moi donc un homme adroit et instruit à façonner l'or, l'argent, l'airain, le fer, le porphyre, l'hyacinthe et l'écarlate; et quelqu'un sachant sculpter et ciseler, avec les gens habiles que j'ai auprès de moi à Jérusalem, et qu'a formés David mon père.
8 Send to me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon. For I know that thy servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. And, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,
Envoie-moi aussi des bois de cèdre, de genièvre et de pin du Liban, car je n'ignore pas comment tes serviteurs savent équarrir les arbres du Liban. Et tes serviteurs, avec les miens,
9 even to prepare for me timber in abundance. For the house which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.
Iront me préparer de la charpente en quantité, parce que la maison que je bâtis sera grande et magnifique.
10 And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers who cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil.
A tes serviteurs les charpentiers, je donne gratuitement pour leur nourriture: vingt mille mesures de froment, vingt mille mesures d'orge, vingt mille mesures de vin, et vingt mille mesures d'huile.
11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because Jehovah loves his people, he has made thee king over them.
Hiram, roi de Tyr, répondit par écrit, et il fit passer sa lettre à Salomon, disant: Le Seigneur aime ton peuple, c'est pourquoi il t'a fait régner sur eux.
12 Huram said moreover, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endued with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.
Et Hiram ajouta: Béni soit le Seigneur Dieu d'Israël, qui a créé le ciel et la terre, qui a donné à David un fils sage, plein de savoir et d'intelligence; c'est ce fils qui bâtira le temple du Seigneur et son propre palais.
13 And now I have sent a skilful man, endued with understanding, of Huram my father's,
Et moi je t'envoie un homme intelligent et habile, Hiram, mon serviteur.
14 the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan. And his father was a man of Tyre, skilful to work in gold, and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, and in fine linen, and in crimson, also to engrave any manner of engraving, and to devise any device, that there may be a place appointed to him with thy skilful men, and with the skilful men of my lord David thy father.
Sa mère est des filles de Dan, et son père un Tyrien; il sait façonner l'or, l'argent, l'airain, le fer, les pierres et le bois; il sait tisser avec le porphyre, l'hyacinthe, le lin et l'écarlate; il sait sculpter et ciseler; il n'est rien qu'il ne sache inventer; il exécutera tout ce que tu lui commanderas, aidé de tes hommes habiles, et des hommes habiles de mon seigneur David, ton père.
15 Now therefore the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, which my lord has spoken of, let him send to his servants.
Quant aux vivres, à l'orge, à l'huile, au vin dont a parlé mon seigneur, qu'il les envoie à ses serviteurs.
16 And we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shall need. And we will bring it to thee in floats by sea to Joppa, and thou shall carry it up to Jerusalem.
Et nous, nous équarrirons des arbres du Liban, autant qu'il en faudra; nous en ferons des radeaux que nous conduirons par mer à Joppé, et tu les transporteras à Jérusalem.
17 And Solomon numbered all the aliens that were in the land of Israel, after the numbering with which David his father had numbered them. And they were found a hundred and fifty-three thousand and six hundred.
Alors, Salomon réunit tous les étrangers qui habitaient la terre d'Israël, après le dénombrement qu'avait fait son père David; or, il s'en trouvait cent cinquante-trois mille six cents.
18 And he set seventy thousand of them to bear burdens, and eighty thousand who were hewers in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred overseers to set the people to work.
Parmi eux, il prit soixante-dix mille manœuvres, quatre-vingt mille tailleurs de pierres, et trois mille six cents conducteurs des travaux, pour diriger cette multitude.
