< 1 Timothy 1 >
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ according to a commandment of God our Savior, and the Lord Jesus Christ our hope,
asmākaṁ trāṇakartturīśvarasyāsmākaṁ pratyāśābhūmēḥ prabhō ryīśukhrīṣṭasya cājñānusāratō yīśukhrīṣṭasya prēritaḥ paulaḥ svakīyaṁ satyaṁ dharmmaputraṁ tīmathiyaṁ prati patraṁ likhati|
2 to Timothy, a genuine child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
asmākaṁ tāta īśvarō'smākaṁ prabhu ryīśukhrīṣṭaśca tvayi anugrahaṁ dayāṁ śāntiñca kuryyāstāṁ|
3 As I urged thee, while going to Macedonia, remain in Ephesus, so that thou might command certain men not to teach something different,
mākidaniyādēśē mama gamanakālē tvam iphiṣanagarē tiṣṭhan itaraśikṣā na grahītavyā, anantēṣūpākhyānēṣu vaṁśāvaliṣu ca yuṣmābhi rmanō na nivēśitavyam
4 nor to heed myths and endless genealogies, which cause controversies rather than stewardship of God in faith.
iti kāṁścit lōkān yad upadiśērētat mayādiṣṭō'bhavaḥ, yataḥ sarvvairētai rviśvāsayuktēśvarīyaniṣṭhā na jāyatē kintu vivādō jāyatē|
5 But the end of the commandment is love out of a pure heart, and a good conscience, and non-hypocritical faith.
upadēśasya tvabhiprētaṁ phalaṁ nirmmalāntaḥkaraṇēna satsaṁvēdēna niṣkapaṭaviśvāsēna ca yuktaṁ prēma|
6 From which some having swerved have turned aside to empty talk,
kēcit janāśca sarvvāṇyētāni vihāya nirarthakakathānām anugamanēna vipathagāminō'bhavan,
7 desiring to be law teachers, understanding neither what they say, nor about what they confidently assert.
yad bhāṣantē yacca niścinvanti tanna budhyamānā vyavasthōpadēṣṭārō bhavitum icchanti|
8 But we know that the law is good, if any man uses it lawfully,
sā vyavasthā yadi yōgyarūpēṇa gr̥hyatē tarhyuttamā bhavatīti vayaṁ jānīmaḥ|
9 knowing this, that law is not laid down for righteous men, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the irreverent and sinful, for the impious and profane, for father killers and mother killers, for man killers,
aparaṁ sā vyavasthā dhārmmikasya viruddhā na bhavati kintvadhārmmikō 'vādhyō duṣṭaḥ pāpiṣṭhō 'pavitrō 'śuciḥ pitr̥hantā mātr̥hantā narahantā
10 for fornicators, for homosexuals, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine
vēśyāgāmī puṁmaithunī manuṣyavikrētā mithyāvādī mithyāśapathakārī ca sarvvēṣāmētēṣāṁ viruddhā,
11 according to the good news of the glory of the blessed God, of which I was entrusted.
tathā saccidānandēśvarasya yō vibhavayuktaḥ susaṁvādō mayi samarpitastadanuyāyihitōpadēśasya viparītaṁ yat kiñcid bhavati tadviruddhā sā vyavasthēti tadgrāhiṇā jñātavyaṁ|
12 And I have gratitude to the Christ-Jesus our Lord-who empowered me, because he considered me faithful, having placed in service
mahyaṁ śaktidātā yō'smākaṁ prabhuḥ khrīṣṭayīśustamahaṁ dhanyaṁ vadāmi|
13 the man who was formerly blasphemous, and a persecutor, and an aggressor. But I obtained mercy because I did it being ignorant in unbelief.
yataḥ purā nindaka upadrāvī hiṁsakaśca bhūtvāpyahaṁ tēna viśvāsyō 'manyē paricārakatvē nyayujyē ca| tad aviśvāsācaraṇam ajñānēna mayā kr̥tamiti hētōrahaṁ tēnānukampitō'bhavaṁ|
14 And the grace of our Lord was filled to overflowing with the faith and love in Christ Jesus.
aparaṁ khrīṣṭē yīśau viśvāsaprēmabhyāṁ sahitō'smatprabhōranugrahō 'tīva pracurō'bhat|
15 Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinful men, of whom I am foremost.
pāpinaḥ paritrātuṁ khrīṣṭō yīśu rjagati samavatīrṇō'bhavat, ēṣā kathā viśvāsanīyā sarvvai grahaṇīyā ca|
16 But because of this I obtained mercy, so that in me, the foremost, Jesus Christ might show forth all longsuffering for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life. (aiōnios )
tēṣāṁ pāpināṁ madhyē'haṁ prathama āsaṁ kintu yē mānavā anantajīvanaprāptyarthaṁ tasmin viśvasiṣyanti tēṣāṁ dr̥ṣṭāntē mayi prathamē yīśunā khrīṣṭēna svakīyā kr̥tsnā cirasahiṣṇutā yat prakāśyatē tadarthamēvāham anukampāṁ prāptavān| (aiōnios )
17 Now to the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, alone wise, to God is honor and glory into the ages of the ages. Truly. (aiōn )
anādirakṣayō'dr̥śyō rājā yō'dvitīyaḥ sarvvajña īśvarastasya gauravaṁ mahimā cānantakālaṁ yāvad bhūyāt| āmēn| (aiōn )
18 This command I set before thee, child Timothy, according to the prophecies leading the way for thee, so that by them thou might war the good warfare.
hē putra tīmathiya tvayi yāni bhaviṣyadvākyāni purā kathitāni tadanusārād aham ēnamādēśaṁ tvayi samarpayāmi, tasyābhiprāyō'yaṁ yattvaṁ tai rvākyairuttamayuddhaṁ karōṣi
19 Holding faith and a good conscience, which some, having put away, made shipwreck about the faith,
viśvāsaṁ satsaṁvēdañca dhārayasi ca| anayōḥ parityāgāt kēṣāñcid viśvāsatarī bhagnābhavat|
20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan, so that they may be disciplined not to blaspheme.
