1 Kings 9
1 And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of Jehovah, and the king's house, and all Solomon's desire which he was pleased to do,
Quando Salomone ebbe terminato di costruire il tempio del Signore, la reggia e quanto aveva voluto attuare,
2 that Jehovah appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.
il Signore apparve per la seconda volta a Salomone, come gli era apparso in Gàbaon.
3 And Jehovah said to him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, which thou have made before me. I have hallowed this house, which thou have built, to put my name there forever. And my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.
Il Signore gli disse: «Ho ascoltato la preghiera e la supplica che mi hai rivolto; ho santificato questa casa, che tu hai costruita perché io vi ponga il mio nome per sempre; i miei occhi e il mio cuore saranno rivolti verso di essa per sempre.
4 And as for thee, if thou will walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances,
Se tu camminerai davanti a me, come vi camminò tuo padre, con cuore integro e con rettitudine, se adempirai quanto ti ho comandato e se osserverai i miei statuti e i miei decreti,
5 then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom over Israel forever, according as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.
io stabilirò il trono del tuo regno su Israele per sempre, come ho promesso a Davide tuo padre: Non ti mancherà mai un uomo sul trono di Israele.
6 But if ye shall turn away from following me, ye or your sons, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other gods, and worship them,
Ma se voi e i vostri figli vi allontanerete da me, se non osserverete i comandi e i decreti che io vi ho dati, se andrete a servire altri dei e a prostrarvi davanti ad essi,
7 then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them. And this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight. And Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.
eliminerò Israele dal paese che ho dato loro, rigetterò da me il tempio che ho consacrato al mio nome; Israele diventerà la favola e lo zimbello di tutti i popoli.
8 And though this house is so high, yet shall every man who passes by it be astonished, and shall hiss. And they shall say, Why has Jehovah done thus to this land, and to this house?
Riguardo a questo tempio, gia così eccelso, chiunque vi passerà vicino si stupirà e fischierà, domandandosi: Perché il Signore ha agito così con questo paese e con questo tempio?
9 and they shall answer, Because they forsook Jehovah their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshiped them, and served them; therefore has Jehovah brought all this evil upon them.
Si risponderà: Perché hanno abbandonato il Signore loro Dio che aveva fatto uscire i loro padri dal paese d'Egitto, si sono legati a dei stranieri, prostrandosi davanti ad essi e servendoli; per questo il Signore ha fatto piombare su di loro tutta questa sciagura».
10 And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of Jehovah and the king's house
Venti anni dopo che Salomone aveva costruito i due edifici, il tempio del Signore e la reggia,
11 (now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), that king Solomon then gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.
poiché Chiram, re di Tiro, aveva fornito a Salomone legname di cedro e legname di abete e oro a piacere, Salomone diede a Chiram venti villaggi nella regione della Galilea.
12 And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him. And they did not please him.
Chiram partì da Tiro per vedere i villaggi che Salomone gli aveva dati, ma non gli piacquero.
13 And he said, What cities are these which thou have given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul to this day.
Perciò disse: «Sono questi i villaggi che tu mi hai dati, fratello mio?». Li chiamò paese di Kabul, nome ancora in uso.
14 And Hiram sent to the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold.
Chiram mandò al re centoventi talenti d'oro.
15 And this is the reason for the conscription which king Solomon raised: to build the house of Jehovah, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.
Questa è l'occasione del lavoro forzato che reclutò il re Salomone per costruire il tempio, la reggia, il Millo, le mura di Gerusalemme, Cazor, Meghiddo, Ghezer.
16 Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites who dwelt in the city, and given it for a portion to his daughter, Solomon's wife.
Il faraone, re d'Egitto, con una spedizione aveva preso Ghezer, l'aveva data alle fiamme, aveva ucciso i Cananei che abitavano nella città e poi l'aveva assegnata in dote alla figlia, moglie di Salomone.
17 And Solomon built Gezer, and Beth-horon the nether,
Salomone riedificò Ghezer, Bet-Coròn inferiore,
18 and Baalath, and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land,
Baalat, Tamàr nel deserto del paese
19 and all the store-cities that Solomon had, and the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.
e tutte le città di rifornimento che gli appartenevano, le città per i suoi carri, quelle per i suoi cavalli e quanto Salomone aveva voluto costruire in Gerusalemme, nel Libano e in tutto il territorio del suo dominio.
20 As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,
Quanti rimanevano degli Amorrei, degli Hittiti, dei Perizziti, degli Evei e dei Gebusei, che non appartenevano agli Israeliti,
21 their sons who were left after them in the land, whom the sons of Israel were not able utterly to destroy, of them Solomon raised a conscription of bondservants to this day.
e cioè i discendenti rimasti dopo di loro nel paese, coloro che gli Israeliti non erano riusciti a sterminare, Salomone li costrinse ai lavori forzati, e tale è ancora la loro condizione.
22 But of the sons of Israel Solomon made no bondservants, but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his rulers, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.
Ma degli Israeliti, Salomone non assoggettò nessuno alla schiavitù: costoro divennero suoi guerrieri, suoi ministri, suoi ufficiali, suoi scudieri, capi dei suoi carri e dei suoi cavalieri.
23 These were the chief officers who were over Solomon's work, five hundred and fifty, who bore rule over the people that labored in the work.
I capi dei prefetti, che dirigevano i lavori per Salomone, erano cinquecentocinquanta; essi sovrintendevano alla massa impiegata nei lavori.
24 But Pharaoh's daughter came up out of the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built Millo.
Dopo che la figlia del faraone si trasferì dalla città di Davide alla casa che Salomone le aveva costruita, questi costruì il Millo.
25 And three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built to Jehovah, burning incense therewith, upon the altar that was before Jehovah. So he finished the house.
Tre volte all'anno Salomone offriva olocausti e sacrifici di comunione sull'altare che aveva costruito per il Signore e bruciava incenso su quello che era davanti al Signore. Così terminò il tempio.
26 And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.
Salomone costruì anche una flotta in Ezion-Gheber, cioè in Elat, sulla riva del Mare Rosso nella regione di Edom.
27 And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen who had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.
Chiram inviò sulle navi i suoi servi, marinai che conoscevano il mare, insieme con i servi di Salomone.
28 And they came to Ophir, and fetched gold from there, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.
Andarono in Ofir, ove presero oro - quattrocentoventi talenti - e lo portarono al re Salomone.
