1 Kings 8
1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers of the sons of Israel, to king Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the city of David, which is Zion.
Entonces Salomón reunió a los ancianos de Israel con todos los jefes de las tribus, los jefes de las casas paternas de los hijos de Israel, ante el rey Salomón en Jerusalén, para hacer subir el arca de la alianza de Yahvé desde la ciudad de David, que es Sión.
2 And all the men of Israel assembled themselves to king Solomon at the feast, in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.
Todos los hombres de Israel se reunieron con el rey Salomón en la fiesta del mes de Etanim, que es el séptimo mes.
3 And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.
Vinieron todos los ancianos de Israel, y los sacerdotes recogieron el arca.
4 And they brought up the ark of Jehovah, and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; even these the priests and the Levites brought up.
Trajeron el arca de Yahvé, la Carpa del Encuentro y todos los utensilios sagrados que estaban en la Carpa. Los sacerdotes y los levitas los subieron.
5 And king Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled to him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen that could not be counted nor numbered for multitude.
El rey Salomón y toda la congregación de Israel, que se había reunido con él, estaban con él ante el arca, sacrificando ovejas y ganado que no se podía contar ni numerar por la multitud.
6 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Jehovah to its place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim.
Los sacerdotes introdujeron el arca de la alianza de Yahvé en su lugar, en el santuario interior de la casa, en el lugar santísimo, bajo las alas de los querubines.
7 For the cherubim spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and the staves of it above.
Los querubines extendían sus alas sobre el lugar del arca, y los querubines cubrían el arca y sus varas por encima.
8 And the staves were so long that the ends of the staves were seen from the holy place before the oracle. But they were not seen outside. And there they are to this day.
Los postes eran tan largos que los extremos de los postes se veían desde el lugar santo, delante del santuario interior, pero no se veían afuera. Allí están hasta el día de hoy.
9 There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb when Jehovah made a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
En el arca no había nada más que las dos tablas de piedra que Moisés puso allí en Horeb, cuando Yahvé hizo la alianza con los hijos de Israel, al salir de la tierra de Egipto.
10 And it came to pass, when the priests came out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of Jehovah,
Cuando los sacerdotes salieron del lugar santo, la nube llenó la casa de Yahvé,
11 so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud, for the glory of Jehovah filled the house of Jehovah.
de modo que los sacerdotes no podían estar de pie para ejercer su ministerio a causa de la nube, porque la gloria de Yahvé llenaba la casa de Yahvé.
12 Then Solomon spoke, Jehovah has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
Entonces Salomón dijo: “Yahvé ha dicho que habitará en la espesa oscuridad.
13 I have surely built thee a house of habitation, a place for thee to dwell in forever.
Ciertamente te he construido una casa de habitación, un lugar para que habites para siempre”.
14 And the king turned his face around, and blessed all the assembly of Israel. And all the assembly of Israel stood.
El rey volvió su rostro y bendijo a toda la asamblea de Israel; y toda la asamblea de Israel se puso de pie.
15 And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and has with his hand fulfilled it, saying,
Dijo: “Bendito sea Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, que habló con su boca a David, tu padre, y con su mano lo ha cumplido, diciendo:
16 Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there, but I chose David to be over my people Israel.
‘Desde el día en que saqué a mi pueblo Israel de Egipto, no elegí ninguna ciudad de todas las tribus de Israel para edificar una casa, para que mi nombre estuviera allí; pero elegí a David para que estuviera sobre mi pueblo Israel.’
17 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.
“El corazón de mi padre era construir una casa para el nombre de Yahvé, el Dios de Israel.
18 But Jehovah said to David my father, Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for my name, thou did well that it was in thy heart.
Pero Yahvé dijo a David, mi padre: “Ya que tenías en tu corazón construir una casa a mi nombre, hiciste bien en tenerlo.
19 Nevertheless thou shall not build the house, but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.
Sin embargo, no construirás la casa, sino que tu hijo, que saldrá de tu cuerpo, construirá la casa a mi nombre’.
20 And Jehovah has established his word that he spoke, for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah promised, and have built the house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel.
Yahvé ha cumplido su palabra que había pronunciado; porque yo me he levantado en lugar de David mi padre, y me he sentado en el trono de Israel, como Yahvé había prometido, y he edificado la casa para el nombre de Yahvé, el Dios de Israel.
21 And there I have set a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with our fathers when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.
Allí he puesto un lugar para el arca, en la que está la alianza de Yahvé, que hizo con nuestros padres cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto.”
22 And Solomon stood before the altar of Jehovah in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.
Salomón se puso de pie ante el altar de Yahvé, en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel, y extendió sus manos hacia el cielo;
23 And he said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with thy servants, who walk before thee with all their heart,
y dijo: “Yahvé, Dios de Israel, no hay Dios como tú, ni en los cielos de arriba ni en la tierra de abajo; que guardas el pacto y la bondad amorosa con tus siervos que caminan ante ti de todo corazón;
24 who have kept with thy servant David my father that which thou did promise him. Yea, thou spoke with thy mouth, and have fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day.
que has cumplido con tu siervo David, mi padre, lo que le prometiste. Sí, tú hablaste con tu boca, y lo has cumplido con tu mano, como sucede hoy.
25 Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou have promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only thy sons take heed to their way, to walk before me as thou have walked before me.
Ahora, pues, que Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, guarde con tu siervo David, mi padre, lo que le prometiste, diciendo: “No faltará de ti un hombre que se siente en el trono de Israel, con tal que tus hijos cuiden su camino, para andar delante de mí como tú has andado delante de mí”.
26 Now therefore, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spoke to thy servant David my father.
“Ahora, pues, Dios de Israel, te ruego que se cumpla tu palabra, que hablaste a tu siervo David, mi padre.
27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee. How much less this house that I have built!
Pero, ¿acaso Dios va a habitar en la tierra? He aquí que el cielo y el cielo de los cielos no pueden contenerte; ¡cuánto menos esta casa que he construido!
28 Yet have thou respect to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken to the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prays before thee this day,
Sin embargo, respeta la oración de tu siervo y su súplica, Yahvé, mi Dios, para escuchar el clamor y la oración que tu siervo hace hoy ante ti;
29 that thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place whereof thou have said, My name shall be there, to hearken to the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place.
para que tus ojos estén abiertos hacia esta casa de noche y de día, hacia el lugar del que has dicho: ‘Mi nombre estará allí’; para escuchar la oración que tu siervo hace hacia este lugar.
30 And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place. Yea, hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and when thou hear, forgive.
Escucha la súplica de tu siervo y de tu pueblo Israel, cuando oren hacia este lugar. Sí, escucha en el cielo, tu morada; y cuando oigas, perdona.
31 If a man sins against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he comes and swears before thine altar in this house,
“Si un hombre peca contra su prójimo, y se le impone un juramento para que jure, y viene y jura ante tu altar en esta casa,
32 then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
entonces escucha en el cielo, y actúa, y juzga a tus siervos, condenando al impío, para hacer recaer su camino sobre su propia cabeza, y justificando al justo, para darle según su justicia.
33 When thy people Israel are smitten down before the enemy because they have sinned against thee, if they turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication to thee in this house,
“Cuando tu pueblo Israel sea abatido ante el enemigo por haber pecado contra ti, si se vuelve a ti y confiesa tu nombre, y ora y te suplica en esta casa,
34 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again to the land which thou gave to their fathers.
entonces escucha en el cielo, y perdona el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y hazlo volver a la tierra que diste a sus padres.
35 When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain because they have sinned against thee, if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin when thou afflict them,
“Cuando el cielo se cierra y no hay lluvia porque han pecado contra ti, si oran hacia este lugar y confiesan tu nombre, y se convierten de su pecado cuando los afliges,
36 then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and send rain upon thy land, which thou have given to thy people for an inheritance.
entonces escucha en el cielo, y perdona el pecado de tus siervos, y de tu pueblo Israel, cuando les enseñas el buen camino por el que deben andar; y envía la lluvia sobre tu tierra que has dado a tu pueblo como herencia.
37 If there be famine in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blight, mildew, locust or caterpillar, if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities, whatever plague, whatever sickness there be,
“Si hay hambre en la tierra, si hay peste, si hay tizón, moho, langosta u oruga si su enemigo los asedia en la tierra de sus ciudades, cualquier plaga, cualquier enfermedad que haya,
38 whatever prayer and supplication be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, who shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house,
cualquier oración y súplica que haga cualquier hombre, o todo tu pueblo Israel, que conozca cada uno la plaga de su propio corazón, y extienda sus manos hacia esta casa,
39 then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and do, and render to every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou know (for thou, even thou only, know the hearts of all the sons of men),
entonces escucha en el cielo, tu morada, y perdona, y actúa, y da a cada uno según todos sus caminos, cuyo corazón conoces (porque tú, sólo tú, conoces los corazones de todos los hijos de los hombres);
40 that they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gave to our fathers.
para que te teman todos los días que vivan en la tierra que diste a nuestros padres.
41 Moreover concerning the foreigner who is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come out of a far country for thy name's sake
“Además, en cuanto al extranjero, que no es de tu pueblo Israel, cuando venga de un país lejano por causa de tu nombre
42 (for they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy mighty hand, and of thine outstretched arm), when he shall come and pray toward this house,
(porque oirán hablar de tu gran nombre y de tu mano poderosa y de tu brazo extendido), cuando venga y ore hacia esta casa,
43 hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to thee for, that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as does thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
escucha en el cielo, tu morada, y haz conforme a todo lo que el extranjero te pida; para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu nombre, para que te teman, como tu pueblo Israel, y para que sepan que esta casa que he edificado se llama con tu nombre.
44 If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way thou shall send them, and they pray to Jehovah toward the city which thou have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name,
“Si tu pueblo sale a combatir contra su enemigo, por cualquier camino que lo envíes, y ora a Yahvé hacia la ciudad que tú has elegido y hacia la casa que he edificado a tu nombre,
45 then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
entonces escucha en el cielo su oración y su súplica, y mantén su causa.
46 If they sin against thee (for there is no man that sins not), and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive to the land of the enemy, afar off or near,
Si pecan contra ti (pues no hay hombre que no peque), y te enojas con ellos y los entregas al enemigo, de modo que los llevan cautivos a la tierra del enemigo, lejos o cerca;
47 yet if they shall rethink themselves in the land where they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication to thee in the land of those who carried them captive, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have dealt wickedly,
pero si se arrepienten en la tierra donde son llevados cautivos, y se vuelven, y te suplican en la tierra de los que los llevaron cautivos, diciendo: ‘Hemos pecado y hemos hecho perversamente hemos actuado con maldad,’
48 if they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who carried them captive, and pray to thee toward their land, which thou gave to their fathers, the city which thou have chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name,
si se vuelven a ti con todo su corazón y con toda su alma en la tierra de sus enemigos que los llevaron cautivos, y te ruegan hacia su tierra que diste a sus padres, la ciudad que tú has elegido y la casa que yo he edificado a tu nombre,
49 then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling-place, and maintain their case,
entonces escucha su oración y su súplica en el cielo, tu morada, y defiende su causa;
50 and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions by which they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them
y perdona a tu pueblo que ha pecado contra ti, y todas sus transgresiones en las que se ha rebelado contra ti; y dales compasión ante los que los llevaron cautivos, para que se compadezcan de ellos
51 (for they are thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou brought forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron);
(porque son tu pueblo y tu herencia, que sacaste de Egipto, de en medio del horno de hierro);
52 that thine eyes may be open to the supplication of thy servant, and to the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken to them whenever they cry to thee.
para que tus ojos estén abiertos a la súplica de tu siervo y a la súplica de tu pueblo Israel, para escucharlos siempre que clamen a ti.
53 For thou separated them from among all the peoples of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spoke by Moses thy servant when thou brought our fathers out of Egypt, O lord Jehovah.
Porque tú los separaste de entre todos los pueblos de la tierra para que fueran tu herencia, como hablaste por medio de Moisés, tu siervo, cuando sacaste a nuestros padres de Egipto, Señor Yahvé”.
54 And it was so, that, when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication to Jehovah, he arose from before the altar of Jehovah, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread forth toward heaven.
Fue así que, cuando Salomón terminó de rezar toda esta oración y súplica a Yahvé, se levantó de delante del altar de Yahvé, de rodillas y con las manos extendidas hacia el cielo.
55 And he stood, and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying,
Se puso de pie y bendijo a toda la asamblea de Israel en voz alta, diciendo:
56 Blessed be Jehovah, who has given rest to his people Israel according to all that he promised. There has not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by Moses his servant.
“Bendito sea Yahvé, que ha dado descanso a su pueblo Israel, según todo lo que había prometido. No ha faltado ni una palabra de toda su buena promesa, que prometió por medio de Moisés, su siervo.
57 Jehovah our God be with us as he was with our fathers. Let him not leave us, nor forsake us,
Que el Señor, nuestro Dios, esté con nosotros como estuvo con nuestros padres. Que no nos deje ni nos abandone,
58 that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his ordinances, which he commanded our fathers.
que incline nuestros corazones hacia él, para que andemos en todos sus caminos y guardemos sus mandamientos, sus estatutos y sus ordenanzas, que mandó a nuestros padres.
59 And let these my words, with which I have made supplication before Jehovah, be near to Jehovah our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel, as every day shall require,
Que estas palabras mías, con las que he suplicado ante Yahvé, estén cerca de Yahvé, nuestro Dios, de día y de noche, para que mantenga la causa de su siervo y la de su pueblo Israel, como cada día lo requiere;
60 that all the peoples of the earth may know that Jehovah, he is God; there is none else.
para que todos los pueblos de la tierra sepan que Yahvé mismo es Dios. No hay otro.
61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with Jehovah our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.
“Sea, pues, perfecto vuestro corazón con Yahvé nuestro Dios, para andar en sus estatutos y guardar sus mandamientos, como hoy.”
62 And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before Jehovah.
El rey, y todo Israel con él, ofrecieron sacrificios ante Yahvé.
63 And Solomon offered for the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered to Jehovah, twenty-two thousand oxen, and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the sons of Israel dedicated the house of Jehovah.
Salomón ofreció para el sacrificio de las ofrendas de paz, que ofreció a Yahvé, veintidós mil cabezas de ganado y ciento veinte mil ovejas. Así el rey y todos los hijos de Israel dedicaron la casa de Yahvé.
64 The same day the king hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of Jehovah, for there he offered the burnt offering, and the meal offering, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brazen altar that was before Jehovah was too little to receive the burnt offering, and the meal offering, and the fat of the peace offerings.
Ese mismo día el rey santificó el centro del atrio que estaba frente a la casa de Yahvé, pues allí ofreció el holocausto, el presente y la grasa de los sacrificios de paz, porque el altar de bronce que estaba frente a Yahvé era demasiado pequeño para recibir el holocausto, el presente y la grasa de los sacrificios de paz.
65 So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of Egypt, before Jehovah our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.
Salomón celebró entonces la fiesta, y todo Israel con él, una gran asamblea, desde la entrada de Hamat hasta el arroyo de Egipto, en presencia de Yahvé nuestro Dios, durante siete días y siete días más, es decir, catorce días.
66 On the eighth day he sent the people away. And they blessed the king, and went to their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that Jehovah had shown to David his servant, and to Israel his people.
Al octavo día despidió al pueblo, que bendijo al rey y se fue a sus tiendas alegres y contentos de corazón por toda la bondad que Yahvé había mostrado a su siervo David y a su pueblo Israel.
