Psalmen 90
1 Een gebed van Mozes, den man Gods. HEERE! Gij zijt ons geweest een Toevlucht van geslacht tot geslacht.
Lord, you have always (been [like] a home for us/protected us) [MET].
2 Eer de bergen geboren waren, en Gij de aarde en de wereld voortgebracht hadt, ja, van eeuwigheid tot eeuwigheid zijt Gij God.
Before you created the mountains, before you formed the earth and everything that is in it, you were eternally God, and you will be God forever.
3 Gij doet den mens wederkeren tot verbrijzeling, en zegt: Keert weder, gij mensenkinderen!
[When people die], you cause their corpses to become soil again; you change their corpses to become dirt like [the first man] was created from.
4 Want duizend jaren zijn in Uw ogen als de dag van gisteren, als hij voorbijgegaan is, en als een nachtwaak.
When you (consider/think about) time, 1,000 years are [as short as] [SIM] one day which passes; [you consider that] [HYP] they are as short as a few hours in the night.
5 Gij overstroomt hen; zij zijn gelijk een slaap; in den morgenstond zijn zij gelijk het gras, dat verandert;
You cause people suddenly to die [MET]; they [live only a short time], like a dream lasts only a short time. They are like grass/weeds [SIM] that grow up.
6 In den morgenstond bloeit het, en het verandert; des avonds wordt het afgesneden, en het verdort.
In the morning [DOU] the grass sprouts and grows well, but in the evening it dries up and (completely withers/dies).
7 Want wij vergaan door Uw toorn; en door Uw grimmigheid worden wij verschrikt.
[Similarly], [because of the sins that we have committed], you become angry with us; you terrify us and then you destroy us.
8 Gij stelt onze ongerechtigheden voor U, onze heimelijke zonden in het licht Uws aanschijns.
[It is as though] you place our sins in front of you, you spread out even our secret sins where you can see them.
9 Want al onze dagen gaan henen door Uw verbolgenheid; wij brengen onze jaren door als een gedachte.
Because you are angry with us, you cause our lives to end; the years that we live pass as quickly as a sigh does.
10 Aangaande de dagen onzer jaren, daarin zijn zeventig jaren, of, zo wij zeer sterk zijn, tachtig jaren; en het uitnemendste van die is moeite en verdriet; want het wordt snellijk afgesneden, en wij vliegen daarheen.
People live for only 70 years; but if they are strong, some of them live for 80 years. But even during good years we have much pain and troubles; our lives soon end, and we die [EUP].
11 Wie kent de sterkte Uws toorns, en Uw verbolgenheid, naardat Gij te vrezen zijt?
No one [RHQ] has fully experienced the powerful things you can do to them when you are angry with them, and people are not afraid that you will greatly punish them because of your being angry with them.
12 Leer ons alzo onze dagen tellen, dat wij een wijs hart bekomen.
So teach/help us to realize that we live for only a short time in order that we may [use our time] wisely.
13 Keer weder, HEERE! tot hoe lange? en het berouwe U over Uw knechten.
Yahweh, how long [will you be angry with us]? Pity us who serve you.
14 Verzadig ons in den morgenstond met Uw goedertierenheid, zo zullen wij juichen, en verblijd zijn in al onze dagen.
Each morning show us that your faithfully loving us is enough for us in order that we may shout joyfully and be happy for the rest of our lives.
15 Verblijd ons naar de dagen, in dewelke Gij ons gedrukt hebt, naar de jaren, in dewelke wij het kwaad gezien hebben.
Cause us to now be as happy for as many years as you (afflicted us/caused us to be sad) and we experienced troubles.
16 Laat Uw werk aan Uw knechten gezien worden, en Uw heerlijkheid over hun kinderen.
Enable us to see the [great] things that you do and enable our descendants to [also] see your glorious power.
17 En de liefelijkheid des HEEREN, onzes Gods; zij over ons; en bevestig Gij het werk onzer handen over ons, ja, het werk onzer handen, bevestig dat.
Lord, our God, give us your blessings and enable us to be successful; yes, cause us to be successful in [everything] that we do [DOU]!
