Psalmen 47

1 Een psalm, voor den opperzangmeester, onder de kinderen van Korach. Al gij volken, klapt in de hand; juicht Gode met een stem van vreugdegezang.

You people all [over the world], clap your hands for joy! Shout joyfully to [praise] God!

2 Want de HEERE, de Allerhoogste, is vreselijk, een groot Koning over de ganse aarde.

Yahweh, who is much greater than any other god, is awesome; he is the king who rules over all the world!

3 Hij brengt de volken onder ons, en de natien onder onze voeten.

He enabled us to defeat [the armies of] the people-groups [that lived in Canaan].

4 Hij verkiest voor ons onze erfenis, de heerlijkheid van Jakob, dien Hij heeft liefgehad. (Sela)

He chose for us this land where we now live; we Israeli people [MTY], whom he loves, are proud that we own this land.

5 God vaart op met gejuich, de HEERE met geklank der bazuin.

God has gone up [into his temple]. The people shouted joyfully and blew trumpets as Yahweh went up.

6 Psalmzingt Gode, psalmzingt! Psalmzingt onzen Koning, psalmzingt!

Sing songs to praise our God! Sing to praise him [DOU]! Sing to God, our king!

7 Want God is een Koning der ganse aarde; psalmzingt met een onderwijzing!

God is the one who rules over everything in the world; sing a psalm to him!

8 God regeert over de heidenen; God zit op den troon Zijner heiligheid.

God sits on his sacred throne as he rules over the people of [all] ethnic groups.

9 De edelen der volken zijn verzameld tot het volk van den God van Abraham; want de schilden der aarde zijn Godes. Hij is zeer verheven!

The rulers of those people-groups gather as God’s people, the people [descended] from Abraham, [do]. But God has more power than the weapons/shields [of all the kings] on the earth; (he is greatly honored/people honor him) everywhere.
