Psalmen 36
1 Een psalm van David, den knecht des HEEREN, voor den opperzangmeester. De overtreding des goddelozen spreekt in het binnenste van mijn hart: Er is geen vreze Gods voor zijn ogen.
[Wicked people continually desire to] sin. They consider [IDM] that they do not need to revere God.
2 Want hij vleit zichzelven in zijn ogen, als men zijn ongerechtigheid bevindt, die te haten is.
Because they are very proud, they do not think that God will discover their sins and condemn them (OR, they do not think about their sins and hate themselves for it).
3 De woorden zijns monds zijn onrecht en bedrog; hij laat na te verstaan tot weldoen.
[Everything] that they say is deceitful and full of lies; they no longer do what is good and are no longer wise.
4 Hij bedenkt onrecht op zijn leger; hij stelt zich op een weg, die niet goed is; het kwaad verwerpt hij niet.
While they are lying on their beds, they plan to do things to harm [others]; they are determined to do things that are not good, and they never refuse [to do what is] evil.
5 O HEERE! Uw goedertierenheid is tot in de hemelen; Uw waarheid tot de bovenste wolken toe.
Yahweh, your faithful love for us reaches as high as the heavens, you faithfully [do what you have promised]; [it is as though your doing that] extends up to the clouds.
6 Uw gerechtigheid is als de bergen Gods; Uw oordelen zijn een grote afgrond; HEERE! Gij behoudt mensen en beesten.
Your righteous behavior is [as permanent as] the highest mountains [MET], your acting justly [will continue as long as] the deepest oceans [exist]. You take care of people and you take care of animals.
7 Hoe dierbaar is Uw goedertierenheid, o God! Dies de mensenkinderen onder de schaduw Uwer vleugelen toevlucht nemen.
God, your faithful love for us is very precious. You protect us like birds protect their baby birds under their wings [MET].
8 Zij worden dronken van de vettigheid Uws huizes; en Gij drenkt hen uit de beek Uwer wellusten.
You provide for us plenty of food from the abundant supply [IDM] that you have; your great blessings for us [flow] like a river.
9 Want bij U is de fontein des levens; in Uw licht zien wij het licht.
You are the one who causes everything to live; your light is what enables us to see.
10 Strek Uw goedertierenheid uit over degenen, die U kennen, en Uw gerechtigheid over de oprechten van hart.
Continue to faithfully love those who have experienced a relationship with you, and bless those who act righteously/justly.
11 De voet der hovaardigen kome niet over mij, en de hand der goddelozen doe mij niet omzwerven.
Do not allow proud people [SYN] to attack me, or allow wicked people to chase me away.
12 Aldaar zijn de werkers der ongerechtigheid gevallen; zij zijn nedergestoten, en kunnen niet weder opstaan.
Look where evil people have fallen on the ground, defeated; they were thrown down, and they will never rise again.
