Spreuken 12
1 Wie de tucht liefheeft, die heeft de wetenschap lief; maar wie de bestraffing haat, is onvernuftig.
Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2 De goede zal een welgevallen trekken van den HEERE; maar een man van schandelijke verdichtselen zal Hij verdoemen.
The good obtaineth favor of the Lord; but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
3 De mens zal niet bevestigd worden door goddeloosheid; maar de wortel der rechtvaardigen zal niet bewogen worden.
A man cannot be firmly established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous will not be moved.
4 Een kloeke huisvrouw is een kroon haars heren; maar die beschaamt maakt, is als verrotting in zijn beenderen.
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but as rottenness in his bones is one that bringeth shame [on him].
5 Der rechtvaardigen gedachten zijn recht; der goddelozen raadslagen zijn bedrog.
The thoughts of the righteous are justice: the best counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6 De woorden der goddelozen zijn om op bloed te loeren; maar de mond der oprechten zal ze redden.
The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright will deliver them.
7 De goddelozen worden omgekeerd, dat zij niet meer zijn; maar het huis der rechtvaardigen zal bestaan.
The wicked are suddenly overthrown, and are no more; but the house of the righteous will endure.
8 Een ieder zal geprezen worden, naardat zijn verstandigheid is; maar die verkeerd van hart is, zal tot verachting wezen.
In accordance with his intelligence is a man praised; but he that is perverse of heart will come to be despised.
9 Beter is, die zich gering acht, en een knecht heeft, dan die zichzelven eert, en des broods gebrek heeft.
Better is he that is lightly esteemed who hath a servant, than he that aimeth after honor, and lacketh bread.
10 De rechtvaardige kent het leven van zijn beest; maar de barmhartigheden der goddelozen zijn wreed.
A righteous man careth for the life of his beast; but the mercies of the wicked are cruelty.
11 Die zijn land bouwt, zal van brood verzadigd worden; maar die ijdele mensen volgt, is verstandeloos.
He that tilleth his ground will be satisfied with bread; but he that runneth after idle persons is void of sense.
12 De goddeloze begeert het net der bozen; maar de wortel der rechtvaardigen zal uitgeven.
The wicked is covetous for the net of evil men; but [God] giveth root to the righteous.
13 In de overtreding der lippen is de strik des bozen; maar de rechtvaardige zal uit de benauwdheid uitkomen.
In the transgression of his lips is the snare of the wicked; but the righteous cometh out of distress.
14 Een ieder wordt van de vrucht des monds met goed verzadigd; en de vergelding van des mensen handen zal hij tot zich wederbrengen.
From the fruit of his mouth will a man be satisfied with what is good; and the recompense of a man's hands will be brought back unto him.
15 De weg des dwazen is recht in zijn ogen; maar die naar raad hoort, is wijs.
The way of a fool is straight in his own eyes; but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
16 De toorn des dwazen wordt ten zelven dage bekend; maar die kloekzinnig is, bedekt de schande.
The wrath of the fool is known on the very day; but he that concealeth the disgrace is prudent.
17 Die waarheid voortbrengt, maakt gerechtigheid bekend; maar een getuige der valsheden, bedrog.
He that uttereth truth announceth righteousness; but a false witness, deceit.
18 Daar is een, die woorden als steken van een zwaard onbedachtelijk uitspreekt; maar de tong der wijzen is medicijn.
There is some one that useth words [which are] like the thrusts of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is healing.
19 Een waarachtige lip zal bevestigd worden in eeuwigheid; maar een valse tong is maar voor een ogenblik.
The lip of truth will stand firm for ever; but only for a moment the tongue of falsehood.
20 Bedrog is in het hart dergenen, die kwaad smeden; maar degenen die vrede raden, hebben blijdschap.
Deceit is in the heart of those that contrive evil; but for the counsellors of peace there is joy.
21 Den rechtvaardigen zal geen leed wedervaren; maar de goddelozen zullen met kwaad vervuld worden.
No wrong can come unawares to the righteous; but the wicked are full of evil.
22 Valse lippen zijn den HEERE een gruwel; maar die trouwelijk handelen, zijn Zijn welgevallen.
An abomination of the Lord are lips of falsehood; but they that deal in faithfulness [obtain] his favor.
23 Een kloekzinnig mens bedekt de wetenschap; maar het hart der zotten roept dwaasheid uit.
A prudent man concealeth [his] knowledge; but the heart of fools proclaimeth [their] folly.
24 De hand der vlijtigen zal heersen; maar de bedriegers zullen onder cijns wezen.
The hand of the diligent will bear rule; but the indolent must become tributary.
25 Bekommernis in het hart des mensen buigt het neder; maar een goed woord verblijdt het.
If there be care in the heart of man, let him suppress it; and a good word will change it into joy.
26 De rechtvaardige is voortreffelijker dan zijn naaste; maar de weg der goddelozen doet hen dwalen.
The righteous is more excellent than his neighbor; but the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.
27 Een bedrieger zal zijn jachtvang niet braden; maar het kostelijk goed des mensen is des vlijtigen.
The indolent roasteth not that which he hath caught in hunting; but the most precious wealth of man is diligence.
28 In het pad der gerechtigheid is het leven; en in den weg van haar voetpad is de dood niet.
On the path of righteousness there is life; and on her pathway there is immortality,
