Lukas 14

1 En het geschiedde, als Hij gekomen was in het huis van een der oversten der Farizeen, op den sabbat, om brood te eten, dat zij Hem waarnamen.

And it came to pass on the going of Him into a house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread and they themselves were watching Him.

2 En ziet, er was een zeker waterzuchtig mens voor Hem.

And behold a man certain there was with dropsy before Him.

3 En Jezus, antwoordende, zeide tot de wetgeleerden en Farizeen, en sprak: Is het ook geoorloofd op den sabbat gezond te maken?

And answering Jesus spoke to the lawyers and to [the] Pharisees saying; (if *k*) Is it lawful on the Sabbath (to heal *N(k)O*) (or not? *NO*)

4 Maar zij zwegen stil. En Hij nam hem, en genas hem, en liet hem gaan.

But they were silent. And having taken hold [of him] He healed him and let [him] go.

5 En Hij, hun antwoordende, zeide: Wiens ezel of os van ulieden zal in een put vallen, en die hem niet terstond zal uittrekken op den dag des sabbats?

And (answering *k*) to them He said; Which of you (a son *N(K)O*) or an ox into a pit (will collapse, *N(k)O*) also surely immediately he will pull up him on (*ko*) day the Sabbath?

6 En zij konden Hem daarop niet weder antwoorden.

And not they were able to reply (to him *k*) to these things.

7 En Hij zeide tot de genoden een gelijkenis, aanmerkende, hoe zij de vooraanzittingen verkozen; zeggende tot hen:

He was speaking then to those invited a parable remarking how the first places they were choosing out, saying to them;

8 Wanneer gij van iemand ter bruiloft genood zult zijn, zo zet u niet in de eerste zitplaats; opdat niet misschien een waardiger dan gij van hem genood zij;

When you may be invited by anyone to wedding feasts, not may recline in the first place, otherwise otherwise [one] more honorable than you may have been invited by him,

9 En hij, komende, die u en hem genood heeft, tot u zegge: Geef dezen plaats; en gij alsdan zoudt beginnen met schaamte de laatste plaats te houden.

and having come the [one] you and him having invited he will say to you; do give to this one [your] place. and then you will begin with shame the last place to take.

10 Maar wanneer gij genood zult zijn, ga heen en zet u in de laatste plaats; opdat, wanneer hij komt, die u genood heeft, hij tot u zegge: Vriend, ga hoger op. Alsdan zal het u eer zijn voor degenen, die met u aanzitten.

But when you may be invited, having gone (do recline *N(k)O*) in the last place, so that when may come the [one] having invited you, (he will say *N(k)O*) to you; Friend, do come up higher. Then will be to you glory before (all *NO*) those reclining [with] you.

11 Want een iegelijk, die zichzelven verhoogt, zal vernederd worden; en die zichzelven vernedert, zal verhoogd worden.

For everyone who is exalting himself will be humbled, and the [one] humbling himself will be exalted.

12 En Hij zeide ook tot dengene, die Hem genood had: Wanneer gij een middagmaal of avondmaal zult houden, zo roep niet uw vrienden, noch uw broeders, noch uw magen, noch uw rijke geburen; opdat ook dezelve u niet te eniger tijd wedernoden, en u vergelding geschiede.

He was saying then also to the [one] having invited Him; When you may make a dinner or a supper, not do call the friends of you nor [call] the brothers of you nor [call] the relatives of you nor [call] neighbours rich otherwise otherwise also they themselves may invite in return you and it may become recompense to you.

13 Maar wanneer gij een maaltijd zult houden, zo nood armen, verminkten, kreupelen, blinden;

But when a feast you may make do call [the] poor, [the] crippled, [the] lame, [the] blind.

14 En gij zult zalig zijn, omdat zij niet hebben, om u te vergelden; want het zal u vergolden worden in de opstanding der rechtvaardigen.

and blessed you will be, because nothing they have to repay you; It will be recompensed for to you in the resurrection of the righteous.

15 En als een van degenen, die mede aanzaten, deze dingen hoorde, zeide hij tot Hem: Zalig is hij, die brood eet in het Koninkrijk Gods.

Having heard then one of those reclining with [Him] these things he said to Him; Blessed [is he] (who *N(k)O*) will eat (bread *NK(o)*) in the kingdom of God.

16 Maar Hij zeide tot hem: Een zeker mens bereidde een groot avondmaal, en hij noodde er velen.

But He said to him; A man certain (was preparing *N(k)O*) a supper great and invited many;

17 En hij zond zijn dienstknecht uit ten ure des avondmaals, om den genoden te zeggen: Komt, want alle dingen zijn nu gereed.

And he sent the servant of him at the hour of the supper to say to those invited; do come, for now ready [it] is (all things. *KO*)

18 En zij begonnen allen zich eendrachtelijk te ontschuldigen. De eerste zeide tot hem: Ik heb een akker gekocht, en het is nodig, dat ik uitga, en hem bezie; ik bid u, houd mij voor verontschuldigd.

And began with one [voice] all to excuse themselves. The first said to him; A field I have bought and I have need (going out *N(k)O*) (and *k*) to see it; I beg of you, do hold me excused.

19 En een ander zeide: Ik heb vijf juk ossen gekocht, en ik ga heen, om die te beproeven; ik bid u, houd mij voor verontschuldigd.

And another said; Yoke of oxen I have bought five and I am going to prove them; I beg of you do hold me excused.

20 En een ander zeide: Ik heb een vrouw getrouwd, en daarom kan ik niet komen.

And another said; A wife I have married and because of this not I am able to come.

21 En dezelve dienstknecht weder gekomen zijnde, boodschapte deze dingen zijn heer. Toen werd de heer des huizes toornig, en zeide tot zijn dienstknecht: Ga haastelijk uit in de straten en wijken der stad, en breng de armen, en verminkten, en kreupelen, en blinden hier in.

And having come the servant (that *k*) reported to the master of him these things. Then having become angry the master of the house said to the servant of him; do go out soon into the streets and lanes of the city, and the poor and crippled and blind and lame do bring in here.

22 En de dienstknecht zeide: Heere, het is geschied, gelijk gij bevolen hebt, en nog is er plaats.

And said the servant; Sir, it has been done (as *N(k)O*) you did command, and still room there is.

23 En de heer zeide tot den dienstknecht: Ga uit in de wegen en heggen; en dwing ze in te komen, opdat mijn huis vol worde;

And said the master to the servant; do go out into the highways and hedges and do compel [them] to come in so that may be filled of mine the house.

24 Want ik zeg ulieden, dat niemand van die mannen, die genood waren, mijn avondmaal smaken zal.

I say for to you that not [one] of the men of those which invited will taste my supper (many for are called few but chosen. *O*)

25 En vele scharen gingen met Hem; en Hij, Zich omkerende, zeide tot hen:

Were going with then Him crowds great. and having turned He said to them;

26 Indien iemand tot Mij komt en niet haat zijn vader, en moeder, en vrouw, en kinderen, en broeders, en zusters, ja, ook zelfs zijn eigen leven, die kan Mijn discipel niet zijn.

If anyone comes to Me and not he hates the father (of himself *NK(o)*) and the mother and the wife and the children and the brothers and the sisters yes (and *N(k)O*) even the life his own not he is able to be My disciple.

27 En wie zijn kruis niet draagt, en Mij navolgt, die kan Mijn discipel niet zijn.

(and *ko*) Whoever not carries the cross (of himself *NK(o)*) and comes after Me, not is able to be My disciple.

28 Want wie van u, willende een toren bouwen, zit niet eerst neder, en overrekent de kosten, of hij ook heeft, hetgeen tot volmaking nodig is?

Which for of you (who *o*) is desiring a tower to build not first he having sat down he counts the cost whether he has (*k*) (for *N(k)O*) [its] completion?

29 Opdat niet misschien, als hij het fondament gelegd heeft, en niet kan voleindigen, allen, die het zien, hem beginnen te bespotten.

Thus otherwise otherwise [when] laying of it a foundation and not being able to finish all those seeing [it] may begin him to mock

30 Zeggende: Deze mens heeft begonnen te bouwen, en heeft niet kunnen voleindigen.

saying that This man began to build and not he was able to finish.

31 Of wat koning, gaande naar den krijg, om tegen een anderen koning te slaan, zit niet eerst neder, en beraadslaagt, of hij machtig is met tien duizend te ontmoeten dengene, die met twintig duizend tegen hem komt?

Or what king proceeding with another king to engage in war not having sat down first (will take counsel *N(k)O*) whether able he is with ten thousand (to meet *N(k)O*) the [one] with twenty thousand coming against him?

32 Anderszins zendt hij gezanten uit, terwijl degene nog verre is, en begeert, hetgeen tot vrede dient.

lest then except indeed still of him far off being an embassy having sent he asks for peace.

33 Alzo dan een iegelijk van u, die niet verlaat alles, wat hij heeft, die kan Mijn discipel niet zijn.

So therefore every one of you who not does give up all his own possessions, not is able to be My disciple.

34 Het zout is goed; maar indien het zout smakeloos geworden is, waarmede zal het smakelijk gemaakt worden?

Good [is] (therefore *NO*) the salt; if however (even *no*) the salt shall become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned?

35 Het is noch tot het land, noch tot den mesthoop bekwaam; men werpt het weg. Wie oren heeft, om te horen, die hore.

Neither [is it] for soil nor for manure fit is it; out they cast it. The [one] having ears to hear he should hear.
